@liana9696

The point of no return was her running over Myrtle and I find it extremely odd they never show her child. Daisy really loved him, but was afraid he would not accept her child. She felt safer with Tom and believed his bullshit about his old safe money. Yes, Gatsby lost his cool but that was only trying to show how they all were slightly delusional; Running around living double lives. Tom was a complete narcissistic asshole. He knew he was wrong and wanted to destroy their relationship and did it anyway he could. Just my opinion.

I got the impression that the look, in the book, was more like “oh crap. He’s on to me,” and not so much “does he know who he’s messing with?” I think this is supported by the fact that right after this he starts denying all the accusations, including accusations that weren’t even made, to daisy. Then Tom looks down on Gatsby and is like “I think he’s sorry now. I think he knows he’s nothing compared to me. Drive my wife home, like the little lunch friend you are,” and then Gatsby and Daisy run out the room as if Tom might change his mind and get angry again.
@jackierosas9593
@jackierosas9593 5 жыл бұрын
Notice what really sets Gatsby off is that Tom does not see him as an equal. He has just as much money, if not more, and worked at it (however illegal that "work" may be)but it's not the right kind of money. It's new. It took effort Tom does not understand and never will, but Gatsby so wants to be one of them, to be viewed as classy and elegant among the best, the dream. Sadly, he never got there. Also, the sound of the fans in the background as a sign of Jay's escalating anger is really brilliant and unnerving.

Im 17 and I might be a naive loser already... I disagree that poor Gatsby never had a chance to achieve his dreams! He was unique and able to achieve any of his dreams if only he would never make a mistake he made back then.

@@noneofyourbusiness1114 I think Gatsby was the best of them, like Nick says. He represents new money, social mobility still existing in the US, the American dream...& after reaching the highest social class, he is still taken down by Tom & Daisy, the most shallow people who have never done ANYTHING, representing the aristocracy. Also, a hypocritical American society is presented when Gatsby is looked down on for being a bootlegger while the elite constantly drink illegal alcohol.

You can actually see how Leo's face got red and I was always super impressed by that! I mean crying is one thing and it is difficult but all you have to do is get your eyes wet and do the facial expressions whereas getting red from anger is like changing your body temperature, which is way harder. I mean how the hell do you do that? Completely astonishing that neither he nor Joel got nominated for this. They embodied Gatsby and Buchanan so f***ing well, especially Joel! This movie is just a masterpiece. Sorry for ranting, have a nice day 🌸🌸

Tom and Gatsby aren't so different. Tom knows this. He knows hes a brutal man with flaws and that his house is because he loves the fckin house so he bought it. He is honest with himself. Gatsby is just like the American Dream, a grandiose façade of itself that turns into a tiny shard of transparent glass when held up to the light.
@matthewcote5198
@matthewcote5198 6 жыл бұрын
yeah hes spoiled but that doesn't mean he cant fight lol he's even described in the book as having a large menacingly powerful body that has crippled people in sport. Gatsby on the other hand was in ww1 but they didn't teach hand to hand combat and shit they gave people old ass rifles and said "go dig your trench and stay alive". idk wtf that has to do with my comment though. funny how all you can see of tom is a spoiled brat. the genius of fitzgerald is he can make even a spoiled brat have good points and bad points, and even Gatsby too.

I’d come back to this knowing that this was one of the most accurate depicting scenes of a man with bottled up anger that exploded after his disguise has been exposed. Leo’s ragged breathing as shown from his cheeks flapping is incredible knowing that that’s how someone would look when extremely angry. His red veins and veins popping out is another plus. Exceptional acting.

I honestly think this scene should've been in the book, too. In the book, Gatsby doesn't lose his temper, and this part in the book was rather too short if you'd ask me. I think this movie scene not only illustrates vigorously the problem with Gatsby's illusion but also the harsh reality that Fitzgerald lived in. "Rich girls don't marry poor boys."

Gatsby did the right thing! People like Tom in this story need to be shown they can't walk all over people who they think are less reputable than themselves, and what other way to do that in this situation was there? Albeit, Gatsby was after a married woman, but her husband was a cheater and treated her poorly. Gatsby didn't deserve to die, he was a good man, a man who loved so much, he could never let go

in retrospect, a lot of people think that Gatsby did not respect marriage, but on the contrary he did he just didn't respect the marriage to where he knew this woman first on top of knowing her first she is being cheated on on a constant basis and she is aware just as well as Gatsby is aware because she told him what was going on so the marriage itself he didn't make a move until she told him everything now it's not justified for what he's done but she was the one who was married and she couldn't easily said no to the marriage didn't go through with it but because of her materialistic ways she married Tom and if he would have came back in time Tom would have never existed she would have never been with him so I was rooting for gas in this scene because of that just saying

I personally think that, she deserved Tom and Tom deserved her. Her only value was her beauty and Tom's only value was his money. The perfect match... Gatsby, on the other hand, deserved a much better woman; for his integrity, good looking and money.

This reminds me of Twilight. Daisy is basically Bella. It's hurting her to see the two men in her life fight. They don't see it, but it's killing her inside.

And like Bella, Daisy is involved in a love triangle with the two worst men of the place: Tom, a man who is a hypocritical racist who constantly cheats on her and Gatsby, a man who is only in love with the fantasy of Daisy, not the person herself. But unlike Bella, Daisy is quite self-aware despite her issues.

Finally, I'm watching this movie. And my biggest problem to understand: how such a strong and magnificent character (Gatsby) manage to trip in his major life battle? Why did he lose his temper? His qualities served him well to get through the war, build the wealth, etc., all that for the love, his obsession. Why a fuck it was important for him, that Daisy loved him and only him all the time? She was ready to escape with him, but he refused. So, what was really important for him: love or something else?

He wanted things to be a certain way, he wouldn't accept things for what they actually were. That is what brought him to his doom. He didn't want Daisy to be his first love, he wanted to be her ONLY love and didn't want her to really live life to the full and have a life without him in it. He was living life according to a fantasy. He had this grand fantasy that he was a blue-blood and was someone who was just as good as Daisy's old money family. He wanted Daisy to go back to her family and he wanted to court her and wanted to marry her out of her family home. He wanted to go back into the past with himself in the role of being a man of means and status, not just an anonymous soldier who couldn't give her the lifestyle that someone like Tom could. He wanted to be in the place of Tom. He wanted to be one of the elite in his own right, as if he were born to the blue blood circles.

Still surprised that Leonardo Dicaprio got his Oscar for "The Revenant" when there are just as amazing acting from his previous films such as this.

I hate seeing comments saying the old movie is better. I love LOVE the original movie but this one is -in my opinion- far better. The scenery is beyond beautiful, and the acting is amazing. Sure, the story was twisted, and sure, the music choice wasn’t fantastic but what fun would there be if it were word for word of the original movie? That’d be plagiarism, and regardless I think this movie was extremely creative Edit: What’s even more amazing is that Gatsby DIDNT ACTUALLY PUNCH HIM. No matter if a bone was not broken, this is pure violence and yet Gatsby still was able to keep some dignity, and spare Tom when I know for a FACT he would’ve killed Gatsby right then and there. There are two kinds of people
