This dear lady really suffered in life. She gave so many people the pleasure of her beautiful voice. She was a highly intelligent woman loved by so many, except for the ones who should have been caring for her. Tragic story of this great lady!

Merci Pippo ! Merci Maria ! L'humanité ne vous oubliera jamais. C'est promis.

RIP to both of them> Giuseppe di Stefano died aged about 86, his last years ruined after he was beaten up in Kenya during a holiday. He had to be flown back to Italy and spent his last few years in hospital. Maria Callas was even more unlucky...only in her mid fifties when she passed away.

This is very beautiful for the way Pippo speaks about Maria ...but there is more to the story. According to Pippo's first wife, Maria, pippo and Maria were lovers probably after the death of Luisa, Pippo and Maria's eldest daughter. Mrs. Di Stefano's biography is: Callas Nemica Mia.

Peter Gibbons: You are an ASS. Involving two people who were not involved of their own volition in this situation. Instead of commenting, well or ill, about Maria Callas you make a stupid ass joke, like your personality, about a tragic ending of s person’s life who through her hard work gave much to the world. Rot in hell.

I disagree that all passionate women agree with what Maria did, dumping her husband for a jerk like Onassis, etc. in the end, she made her bad choices and she lived with them. She was not always a decent person but towards the end, I think she learned the hard way. Who knows? In the end, she does deserve sympathy because I think she would have been happier never have become a singer and been allowed to have more of a normal childhood and life of her choosing. That’s what she wanted and for that, she deserves sympathy.

María Callas never was loved for her mother. This is tragedy because the human being learned love through the relations of parents. María lack of love during her childhood. She grew up in loneliness. It is not weird she look for love all her life.

@@demeter120 Yes, I heard that she did not have a good relationship with her Mom. I can empathize because my Mom and I do not get on well too. I try to communicate with her because for good or evil, she remains my true mother and I will not forsake my family based on pride. In Callas' case, I do feel sorry for her.

She could have lived a long life just being Callas, as Tebaldi and many others did. Contrary to what Pippo says (who in many places seems to describing himself and not her), I think she gave up because she could not sing, and the mistakes that brought that about were too overwhelming.

But what is a long stage life being ordinary for an extraordinary artist? Tebaldi and the others sang until the end, how many of their recordings are the definitive? few or none. While Callas, none of her recordings every went out of print and her pirates are circulating more than some of studio made by the others.
@ransomcoates546
@ransomcoates546 2 жыл бұрын
@@Distefano5 Well, I think there never has been and never will be a time when opera lovers forget Renata Tebaldi, as the recent posting of a number of early 50’s clips and the ecstatic response to them indicates. She faced vocal problems too, but worked on her technique, and sang again for ten years, surely knowing, as all her fans did, that she never sounded the same again. There’s no point in trying to psycho-analyze dead singers, but I would say that it is both sad and a great loss to musical history that Callas chose to wallow in self- pity rather than lead a long life in retirement.
@Distefano5
@Distefano5 2 жыл бұрын
@@ransomcoates546 People who talk about technique often forget that a good voice is a talent above all. Tebaldi, Ponselle, Milanov etc. were singing on nature's gift, they didn't have to learn so much. Callas was the opposite, she didn't have a beautiful voice so she built her talent from the scratch and when she stopped singing it all collapsed.
@smallworld1624
@smallworld1624 Жыл бұрын
Respectfully: Tebaldi was never Callas, regardless of whom anyone prefers, which is always a matter of taste. People who don't know opera know who Maria Callas is. Retiring as Tebaldi was surely different than retiring as Callas.

@@ransomcoates546I take grave exception to 'wallow in self-pity'! You obviously have not the faintest idea of what it is like for a performing artist to be deprived of that outlet. I do, and it is an enormity! And in Maria's case, exacerbated by the loss of passionate love. Depression is the least one would expect.
