Great escape Bullet. 😮‍💨 I’m a little sad though that Bullet lost his tree. 🥺 I’m glad he played it safe and left though. He’s a smart little koala. But I could definitely tell by the look on Bullet’s face and by his eyes that he was not feeling very bold. I hope for Bullet’s safety and health everyday. 🙏 Is this normal though? I didn’t think that was Hugo’s regular territory?? Would they normally move into a new area after they were already established in an area? I wonder if Hugo has lost some of his own range because of the flood??? I hope he didn’t lose any of his regular trees. ☹️ Climate change is definitely not some distant concern. I was flooded out last summer too. All coastal areas are being hit and it’s not going to get better. It’s time for governments to shift to climate adaption policy now, not future mitigation strategies. It’s already happening. The island nations have been yelling for decades at COP and other international forums. They failed to act and now we have develop a way to deal with all the damage. One strategy that has been tried here is to plant new tree lines and varieties that thrive a degree or two lat. south so they live in 20-30 years and fit a 2050 climate. I’m not sure the ecological ramifications but I’m looking into it!

thank you for that detailed and very thoughtful comment full of insight! this is normal koala behaviour. every few weeks Hugo has been coming over this way, and usually Bullet has moved out of the way earlier, but he got caught in there this time. years ago, he had several altercations with Jordan, who was the alpha. But he still lived here - it is not black and white between koalas, it is far more subtle. There has not been an alpha over in this part of the property since we lost Jordan, so really it has taken a long time for an alpha to start claiming it. as I answer, I am realising, this very topic will actually make a fantastic video so I can show while telling. THANKS, you just gave me a great video idea for some fascinating koala understanding. the short answer is, Hugo is behaving normally, colonies need alpha males, and all other levels of males, and they have to establish social ranking to be stable. 💚💚💚💚

Well Hugo isn't keeping it, Bullet comes back to it often as he doesn't have to run around a big territory constantly like Hugo the alpha. I think I would way prefer to be Bullet and be chill and just eat and nap, Hugo has a much tougher job 😂🐨

Great Escape Bullet. The video about Bullet made me very sad. It looks like he has become narrower around the nose. A bit like an old koala. The fact that he had to leave "his" tree because of Hugo hurts. But the main thing is that the two do not fight with each other. There should be enough space for 2 such remarkable alpha animals. Don't feel too sad, this is all normal koala interaction. Hugo is definitely an alpha and expanding his territory which is great as we don't have stable colonies without strong alphas. Bullet is not an alpha. This means that when Hugo comes along, they are sorting out the way Bullet fits in, and this is important too. Bullet is up high in that tree today as I type. So he is not being kicked out of the colony, there is just some ground rules (or treetop rules should we say?) that Hugo is making clear as he comes around. There has not been an alpha in this area of the property since we lost Jordan, and I notice that there has also been very little female activity in this part without an alpha. So we can be happy that an alpha is being established again. I think Bullet looked rather forlorn, but since that day his face is not looking so drawn, it must have been stress 🤭🤭🐨🐨🐨🌳🌳🌳

Great escape Bullet. I'm glad you're feeling better. Poor Bullet he always has to move from his favorite tree when Hugo shows up. Hogo is sweet, he is just following his nature but he never attacks him. The climate change has become really serious. We never know what's going to happen from one day to another. You should always have extra water from now on, in case it happens again. Dehydratation is very dangerous! Bullet is a good therapy for sure.😄 He looks tired. yes, Bullet has to adjust to Hugo coming around at times now 🙃 I have been through countless floods here, it is part of this area, so I am always prepared, but never have we lost all power, water and internet for 11 days straight. thank you so much 🐨🐨🐨🐨

🐨🤓Great Escape Bullet🐨🤓👍‼️ Hugo is a huge guy who knows he’s way stronger than Bullet so that he didn’t have to do anything, but just bellowing to tell Bullet “ You can go ahead and find a different spot🐨” . He’s the king now🐨🤴. Climate change is here already🌏. I agree and we have to do whatever we can do. I can’t live without koalas. It’s like try to live without oxygen. I’ll help koalas and Katrina I mean it🐨🤓‼️ I’m glad our Bullet quietly left and found a great spot🐨🌲. He’s my buddy for sure🐨🤓🌲. I have loved and been obsessed with koalas since I was 5 years old. It all started when I was on a soccer team called The Koala Bears. Back then I never would've dreamed this obsession would turn into a lifelong passion but it has. And ever since then, my koala collection has been growing and growing and growing. And now my collection consists of 2269 different koala items including 2 tattoos. I've also been to Australia twice and have gotten to hold these amazing animals.
