There is nothing gayer than a true nemesisship done right. It’s called a ship for a reason. All distinguished villains and their heroes are secretly at least bisexual. And just one step away from an enemies to lovers arc at all times. This is because TRUE, developed, hatred can only be possible for those that we once loved. Hatred doesn’t come from nothing. It is Taught. And it’s often Taught from people we would desperately Want to love had they any scrap of a willingness to stop harming themselves and those around them. People who Could have Easily become villains yet still choose to do what’s right are the most compelling heros often times. And often times villains who genuinely reflect on their actions and have character development to become better people, weather or not they stop being villains, make some of the best villains.

THIS IS SO TRUE

So true. Indeed, iconic villain-hero nemesis relationships for example, like Batman and the Joker follow this principle. Iconic nemesis are the two sides of the same coin. In this example, Batman being justice and order and Joker being chaos.

fun fact: Disney villains are actually gay on purpose due to the hays laws that made it so several things including lgbtq characters could only be in media if they were punished at the end. Parents and pretty much everyone was scared that the gays were gonna take and corrupt their children, so it made good traits for a villain. We could either have a loser that gets arrested, or a villain that both chews up the scenery and ate in general it's obvious which is better. Plus there's later examples after the hays codes were revoked like how Ursula is based off of the drag queen Divine. 🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️💅

From my perspective, Ratigan (who loves no one but himself) manipulated Basil into having a tryst with him as part of one of his earlier schemes in the days before he firmly established his reputation as Mousedom's greatest menace. Basil in turn felt humiliated when Ratigan revealed to him that he'd only been using him the whole time. Ratigan may be gay, but he's the kind of character who would consider sex only as a means to an end. This would add another layer to Basil's desire to avenge both his bruised ego and broken heart.

Thank you, finally! One of the best movies by Disney and in animation. I have my story with it lol - randomly watched this movie at the beginning of my teenage years and my ADHD said: "Yeah, this will be our jam". Couldn't think about anything besides this movie, read comics and fanfics (there was one there Basil and Ratigan were PIRATES, OH MY GOD), checked tumblr hashtag everyday, drew pictures, worshipped the site called "The game is aloof", which was dedicated to this movie and everything with it (sadly, not operating now). And I even. fucking. roleplayed. gay mice. with my best friend. Yeah. Crazy to think it was in my life, but not complaining. And the movie is still amazing.

Can’t remember if I commented on this or not, but I saw this video ages ago, and I adored it. The Great Mouse Detective is surprisingly underrated. I’ve seen it twice now, and it is such a fever dream combined with actually comedic and clever storytelling (by that, the first time I saw it, I thought I had dreamt it all up. Oddly, the bat creature was the only thing I remembered aside from Ratigan. Like, I legitimately did not know this was a Sherlock Holmes style movie until much much later) but after rewatching it, yeah… Ratigan is basically Moriarty except sassier, and with at the very least, an implied attraction towards men. Gotta love it.
