Gary Hart molded his character and style gradually in dark matches, he wanted a complete star ready for top cards seat filling attraction! Hart's promos vs Flair, he called Ricky, are so credible! Hart helped Muta be known by a wider audience and star revenue! Sting saw him becoming more favorite than him, he didn't want to share the top baby face spot!

I mean technically he was. He won the NWA World Heavyweight Championship in 1993 in January against Masahiro Chono in a double championship match (Muta was IWGP Heavyweight Champion at the time) and held both of them before dropping the NWA World Heavyweight Championship to Barry Windham in late February that same year having about a month and a half long title reign. So while it isn't really the proper WCW Championship, it was the NWA-WCW Championship that would later become the WCW Championship and it was the Big Gold Belt as well so in my mind he counts. In my mind from 1988 when Turner Broadcasting brought the NWA until 2001 when Jericho unified it with the WWE Championship, it was the WCW Championship so yeah Great Muta is a former WCW Champion. Ditto with the WCW International World Heavyweight Championship, that is just a splinter of the legit World Championship so both Hiroshi Hase and Rick Rude are former WCW Champions in my mind as well

Awesome seeing Dave Knows make a guest appearance, I’m a big fan of his channel. I’ve always found Muta’s final return to WCW really surprising not just because of the rough shape they were in, but because Vince Russo was pretty open back then about his belief that Japanese wrestlers couldn’t get over with American fans. Presumably Muta knew expectations for him would be low and he could rest up while still collecting a paycheck.

I first experienced The Great Muta on early morning (6/7am) showings of older WCW shows on Sky Sports channels. The moment I laid eyes on Muta I knew "He is a big deal". The presentation of Muta and not just the face paint or the mist but the way he moves was unlike anyone or anything I had seen in professional wrestling.
@Shiningwizardo4 жыл бұрын
There are few wrestlers that come to mind if you used the description "A wrestling demon" and no disrespect to Finn Bálor (another favourite) but it comes down to: The Undertaker - Someone that was like a zombie upon debut who went through so many different iterations of classic horror movie villains. A foe who kept sitting up. The Great Muta - An Oni or a demonic spirit that didn't walk, he shifted and twitched around the ring. He exploded at you with the flashing elbow drop or sudden leaping sole butt kick to the face. Just watch Muta's evolution of style after he has wrecked both of his knees and somehow manages to move at a pace that would put some cruiserweights to shame. The man is in a league of his own.
