The Great Norfolk Broads Adventure XII Day 6 7th October 2021

Today I leave Thurne Dyke nice and early and manage to get in at Potter heigham where i have a wee wander around before getting back on board Thunder and heading for my overnight mooring at Ranworth, a night that turned into a bit of a gathering and party.

Good stuff Russell ,I like the Thurne 'community' around Potter with Latham's , (miserable sods) ,and Herbert Woods ,from whom I have hired many a boat over the years ,some good ,some not so good (and one absolute stinker) but wouldn't rule them out for future use. Anyway ,did you know that a long time ago ,the river Thurne flowed the other way !might see you one day, give us a clue when you are down on the broads. All best T.M.

Hi Russell. I enjoyed the segment when you were walking to Latham's. Walking with the camera is something Dave W does quite a bit and I think it works well. Well done for pointing out the "no turning" sign. Then you messed it up by taking about the water point! I would never turn beyond that sign, no matter what the conditions. If you want water there, the safest thing is just to come in forwards and then, when, you've filled up, back out some distance downstream before you think about turning.

If you can't swing the boat round to get in to the water point, come along side a moored boat, get off and walk the boat down using the moored boats.

When you were outside Latham's fishing tackle shop you should have seen a black cabin that sells the best burgers and coffee in Norfolk... not cheap and not great sat outside in winter but... What the hell !!!

I was going to go and partake a burger when I was down in October but I got recognised and got a bit embarrassed if they saw the size of burger I was going to have for my lunch so will need to try it again next time I’m down instead 😂😂

Nice change that 👌.. went under potter heighham bridge in the 80s up to Hickling and Martham.. its well worth a visit like u say even in a day boat..its gorgeous 😍.. most boats went up there all them years ago.. my dad made sure he got his moneys worth 😂 never stopped for breath... shame u got stopped filming in laythams thou.. you'd think it'd be good for the business... mmmm nevermind loved it

Why do you not use the central line when coming alongside and departing? I thought that's what it was there for. Isn't it much easier to attach that one first to hold the boat and then sort the bow and stern lines at leisure? Similarly when departing a mooring, leaving it till last giving plenty of time to sort fore and aft lines without the boat drifting off. I stand to be corrected if it's wrong but it makes sense to me.

It’s actually something I started doing on my December trip, still mooring solo as if I was on a hire boat and forget about the encore line 🤦‍♂️😂
