THE GREAT PHYSICIAN - The author of this evergreen song, Hunter William, was born near Ballymoney, Ireland, on May 26, 1811. In 1817, he moved to America, and then entered Madison College in 1830. He became the editor of the Conference Journal, and the Christian Advocate. In 1855, he was appointed Professor of Hebrew in Alleghany College and, subsequently, Minister of the Methodist Episcopal Church, Stark Country, Ohio. He has written over 125 hymns. Some of his songs have been translated into various Indian languages. 'The Great Physician Now Is Near' (Christ the Physician) is seen in his Songs of Devotion (1859).
