Sheila has written seven books including award-winning book The Good Girl’s Guide to Great Sex and the forthcoming The Great Sex Rescue, which she coauthored with her daughter, Rebecca Lindenbach. Both Sheila and Rebecca speak and write about a Christian view of sex, often correcting problems created by a purity culture approach to sex.

Preston said this video was the most viewed but there is not that many comments. Yes, I ran into this topic as I did a woman’s bible study on sexuality by Kay Arthur. I believe she stated in her book for woman to look their best (make up, hair done, dressed nicely, etc) in order to keep her husband faithful to her. I immediately knew there was something wrong with that mentality. I talked to the leader that I was concerned that it can lead women to think they are responsible to keep their husband faithful to them. Well, she said she would bring it up to the group and she did. BUT, she stated to the group that she did not agree with me. Therefore, I was just humiliated and told I was wrong in front of the group. My husband and I have had a lot of marriage issues and I have read a lot marriage books. As soon as I notice, the book caters mostly to the man, I stop reading it. I have talked to my Christian counselor about these messages and she agreed some of these teachings are incorrect. A man does not “need” sex. A “need” is food, water, and air. We need it to live. A man will not die if he does not have sex. She further explained that the scripture addresses both husband and wife that their bodies is not their own. A husband’s body is for his wife. If she does not want to have sex because there is housework to be done. He should use his body to serve her. It never says the husband should demand of his wife’s body. The scripture highlights consent on both sides.

That's about as twisted as it gets. No wonder you have so many marriage issues. Your counselor was a total feminist aka Jezebel, which is why you're drawn to her. You are too. Those verses in the Bible are specifically talking about sex and not to deprive each other, SO YOU DON'T FALL TO TEMPTATION. For her to twist it to mean he has to help you with housework is hilarious and sick. It's true men won't die if they don't get sex, but it's a very strong drive GOD gave them, and to not fulfill that part of the marriage is cruel and according to the Bible, a sin. Most guys will be more than happy with 2 to 3 times a week. If you can't do that, you shouldn't be married. Now if he wants it 2 to 3 times day, he has a problem that needs to be dealt with. That drive is also a blessing to you, if men didn't have it, they wouldn't put up with your self-centered BS. You're lazy and self centered. All you can think about is yourself. Of course women should look good for their husbands. But that means you need to exercise and not be glutonous, which women hate to be disciplined and restrained. I feel bad for him, but I'm sire you exhibited all these traits before he married you.

Wow. I’m grateful for the healthy sex education I had within an evangelical setting, thanks to my parents and youth leaders. Even so, I was definitely aware of these types of destructive teachings- especially among my peers. This interview has still given me a lot to think about and my husband and I will definitely be reading y’all’s book!

Love the content. Imo I dont think we need a peer reviewed study to understand love and sex, although im sure it helps. It is laid out in the bible. Lust is the committers sin even before marriage. Take these struggles first to God - not throwing them on your wife/husband. Love is laying down your life - not finding sexual satisfaction. Jesus washed the disciples feet - he didnt make them wash his to prove their love/respect. Biblically couples should work together denying themselves out of love and service. If your other is crying or in pain you should reevaluate because that is not biblical.

Where can I read the actual Survey Data? Is it published in a peer reviewed journal? I found the data very helpful and want to use some of the stats, but want to cite from the original research.

It's interesting to observe how much he waffles on his original positions as his extended life experiences bring about new realizations. i.e. divorce in his son's life and inclusion in ministry post divorce.

There is so much more to dig into in this topic. Would love to see you continue to pursue the underlying misogyny that is present in the church and expose it to the light! Thank you for doing this interview.

@@sewstrait2thepoint this isn't misogyny. Stop trying to bring in progressive and harmful narratives into the church. It's not hate to treat men and women differently.

All I know is I go to a 12 step recovery group that deals with addiction. And the most common one is pornography. And it’s mostly married Christian men. That’s saying something folks!!

Thank you so much for doing this work which is obviously such an important issue for everyone really. I'm not meaning to be rude but I'm amazed at some things people are taught!I'm thankful this is the first time I have heard about the skewed view of men and women. Have you seen Josh McDowell's The secret of loving

In a culture that celebrates impurity, lust, hedonism this makes zero sense.

That's because these women are Jezebels. They are radical feminists straight out of planned parenthood. Only 4% of women are virgins when they get married. The more sexual partners a girl has, the less likely she can pairbiod by 3, it's almost hopeless. After 5 it is. She'll never stay in a marriage. This is the goal. Destroy the familial bonds. They have a video where they say hierarchy in marriage doesn't work, even though it's God's design and it's expressly stated in His word. Like most women of this age, they want to do whatever they want and not bear any consequences. Leading young women astray will cost them dearly.

It was simply amazing to see a man and women discussing sex without embarrassment or shame, and also being forthright about the problem of abuse. My husband found this interview, but I'd already discovered Sheila and Rebecca, so both of us enjoyed this video a lot. Thanks to all of you for what you're getting out there into the open.

lol. We had sex Ed in school (14-15) and it was so gross and clearly grooming. It was talking about how to pleasure a partner and stuff for MINORS, straight up grooming. It’s a slippery slope and abstinence is not going to kill you.

I agree. This was very affirming for me as a woman, wife and mother. I told my husband about the 72 hour rule and he seemed this was totally appropriate. So sadly you and I are in the same boat. This was helpful in knowing that there is nothing wrong with me but at the same time it won’t fix my spouse or change his perception of what he requires and wants of me in the relationship. But, this was great dialog and I really appreciate that the book was written.

I heard what Rebecca said about loving each other as Christ loves His church. No, no, no. The Bible says the husband is to love His wife as Christ loves His church. He’s to lay his life down for her in servant leadership. Marriage is a symbol of Christ loving His church: the husband depicting Christ and the wife depicting the church. As Christ is the head of His church, so the husband is the head of His wife. They are equal partners in marriage, with different roles. They submit to each other out of reverence for Christ. God has an established order for the family and when that cosmos is not followed, chaos ensues. When a husband withdraws his covering of protection over his family, they are exposed to the world, the flesh and the devil.

So when a man withdraws "his umbrella" God can no longer protect the woman - that is heresy!

14:22 The way you defeat lust is by treating other people as whole people made in the image of God. So... not by the Spirit as Paul says it is in Romans 8 and Galatians 5. Now the answer is just a heady philosophy. So essentially, you teach people to feel guilty about who they look at. Brilliant!!! Why hasn't anyone else thought of that? What else is Paul wrong about that these two suburban women know better?
