Depression leeches joy out of your life and can turn things you love into distant memories. That's not you or the thing you love. Depression blocks your true perception. Go do something different for a while. I recommend a walk in the woods while listening to Gavin's music, but that's just off the top of my head. Depression is an illness like any other, but like mist chronic illnesses, coping mechanisms tend to be different from person to person and even change based on the day. Sometimes I need the woods. Sometimes I need to create art. Sometimes I need a video game, or a hug, or ice cream, or to see a small child look at something I made and go "Wow!" Something that may help, at least to know you're not alone, is an article I wrote a while back explaining what depression is like. thecatholicgeeks.com/2015/06/18/a-look-inside-depression/
@MatthewBowman7 жыл бұрын
NileonMatter Depression will always make it seem like you'll never get better. Like I said, it's an illness. When you have a cold, you probably feel like it'll never end. And that's a small illness. Depression is chronic. It's always lurking like something alive. It's not, but sometimes it's helpful to visualize it as something you can fight. I've gotten to the point that I can recognize, even deep in depression, that what I'm feeling is probably false. When I come back out, which might be in a few hours or two months, it'll seem obvious that it was all an illusion. But when it's there, it's more real that what I can touch.

My favourite thing about Gav's music is that when we hear a song like this we're not just hearing music and words. We're being taken on an odyssey to an amazing place where our favourite stories and worlds are immortalised through song. And that to me is the amazing thing of all.

@onyxtay72467 жыл бұрын
Let's take a moment to see the minutia of this song. The chorus throughout the whole thing goes. "Into the great unknown The stars light up the stones We’re carried ever onward Upon a hope of home Oh oh oh oh " As the chorus is sung one last time it changes, a small change, but a powerful one. "Into the great unknown The stars light up the stones We carry ever onward Upon a hope of home Oh oh oh oh " *We carry ever onward". No longer is it "we're carried", but "we carry". It changes from someone who simply goes along, to someone who moves, and changes things. We're could mean we are, or we were. It's about how Ryder went from following his/her father, being carried onward by the pathfinder, to being that pathfinder. Ryder is now carrying humanity into the great unknown. Gav's songs always reference things in a good way. He puts in musical references to previous songs in a series, and he puts in references to the game lore. It's rarely obvious, but it really shows these aren't just pumped out, they're things that take commitment, and care about something to make.

Having not yet played Andromeda (no XB1 / PS4 or a PC capable of running it yet), I can't comment on how this relates to the actual game. I'm not even looking at the video itself in case of (unintentional) spoilers. What I *will* say, however, is how amazing this song feels to me: I adore the callback to Crucible, the instantly catchy riffs and chorus, the synthy-ness (that is a word) and subtle ME1 theme melody - it's like a love letter to the entire Mass Effect series and we lucky few who happen to be fans (of ME and MoS). Gav, you are without question a musical genius and it is criminal that you're not more well-known and receiving the attention you clearly deserve. I'm pretty much guaranteed to be a fan for the rest of my life. Major Kudos to you, sir, and may you keep on rockin'!

I didn't play the original Mass Effect trilogy until pretty late, about 2014. By then all of Gav's phenomenal Mass Effect series songs were out and I enjoyed the hell out of them. With Mass Effect 3 being my favorite game of all time, songs like Take It Back and Crucible had become as much a part of my Mass Effect experience as the game itself. And since I've finished, I feel like I'd left behind some great memories of the crew and adventures of those games. When that Crucible sting hit at 2:51, I was right back there on the Citadel with all those friends again, tearing up from the happy memories. From the bottom of my heart, thanks Gav. Never stop being amazing.

I don't know why they always choose to waste whatever investment they had already put into the game in favor of getting it out slightly faster. I know it must cost a lot to keep an AAA studio running for even a week, but...you'd think that's why they have a publisher at all...I guess I just don't understand business.

On my first listen, I teared up like I haven’t in months… shit, I don´t know how to put this song´s beauty in words alone. Just hearing the references to Crucible, one of my favorite instrumentals ever, was enough to get me excited, but the lyrics… Hope. Hope Hope Hope, that´s the word, it´s in my head beating non-stop, reminding me with its embrace and warmth of what it feels like to be alive. Discovery, Struggle, New Beginnings, Love, Fear and, through its darkest moments, Hope shining bright through it all. Thank you, Gav… Thank you so much…

I really hope this stays a trilogy as planned. Even if it wasn't as good as expected, I loved the storyline. I want to know what happens!

No, just the Montreal studio. Edmonton is still intact. They just have to make Bootleg Destiny (AKA Anthem) before they can get back to Mass Effect.

Don't get me wrong. The "I am onnly Human" is great. But this... This should be official song of ME:A.

Or at least the ending theme. Definitely the ending theme.

Imagine, if the Anfromeda goes trilogy and this song happens to be the ending theme of the third game, except ending with words "We are home." (after all of the normal lyrics).

There are rumors that because Andromeda was bit of a fail, the ME series will get a... lets call it a break. :(
@caav567 жыл бұрын
I really hope these are just rumors. Even if they are not... Well, one can dream, after all. And I really hope Andromeda galaxy will truly become new home for those who endured centuries-long trip from the Milky Way - just in the hope for a new home.

On his last music video, I made a comment about missing the songs where Gavin took centre stage on the vocals. Don't know if he ever saw that comment, but this being the next song released is highly gratifying. Thanks Gav!
