The Great Yard Cleanup: You won't Believe whats under all of this Mess!

This backyard required some major renovation. When a yard gets to this length it is nearly impossible for the average family, with average equipment, to get it back into shape - that's where I come in. In this episode, which is part 2, you'll see me helping out a young family and slowly getting their yard back to normal. Everything that was taken away was done at the request of the owners, and it came up very well, so watch until the end. Hopefully, you will be as shocked as the homeowners at this amazing transformation. All up, I spent around 10 hours on this section, with 3 trips to the landfill and recycling station. This is part 2 of 3.

FAQ's:
Q: Where are you located?
A: I am from Hobart, Tasmania, Australia 🦘🦘🦘.
Q: Do you worry about snakes?
A: I have never even seen a snake in over 5 years on the job.
Q: Which equipment do you use?
A: Mostly STIHL power equipment (battery and petrol) and commercial Honda self-propelled mowers.
Q: How much do the jobs cost?
A: Sorry, I prefer not to talk about costs!
Q: What happened to Nick?
A: Nick was offered a full-time position at his other job as a Political admin!
Q: What happened to Brent?
A: Brent quit at the start of August 2022.
Q: Why don't you use tarps instead of bins?
A: Tarps are too difficult to move through small spaces and lift into the trailer. The same for wheelbarrows, they are only good for unloading the trailer!
Q: Why are the hot water cylinders outside?
A: I would say it's because Australia had a temperate to tropical climate, and therefore it doesn't matter that much if they are outdoors. To me, though, it seems a bit inefficient to have them outside in Tasmania with a temperate climate (coldish for 3 - 4 months per year). But that is industry standard down here 🤷‍♂️
Q: Why are you cutting so close to your employee!
A: I'm not cutting too close to my workers, they are standing too close to where I am working! All of my workers have been told numerous times about standing too close to the tools and about the hazards involved!
Q: Why do your workers do all the lifting and carrying?
A: Basically, they are employed to carry things and I pay them well, to do the job required.
Q: You work so well together, how do you do it?
A: That's the magic of editing. My workers are basically given instructions on what to do, I just edit it all out, so the videos look seamless!
Q: Why don't you have help?
A: I've had many problems with employees in the past, so now I work alone.
Q: Why don't you have a ride-on mower?
A: Well, there are a few reasons.
1. Currently, I don't do enough big jobs to justify spending 15k on a good ride on mower.
2. I don't have anywhere to store it.
3. A lot of the properties we do have fences and gates, so you can't actually get a ride-on in there.
4. I don't have the right trailer for a ride on, considering we always take the green waste away.
5. I will get one as soon as all of the above are solved.
Q: What happened to your workers?
A: Because the work is so hard and I expect high standards, most have quit over time. The only exception so far is Nick!
Q: What types of ladders do you use?
A: The large one is a Gorilla Adjustable Platform 150kg and the small one is a Gorilla Mighty 19. They are both adjustable.
Q: Who/what is Jim's Mowing?
A: Jim's Mowing is a franchise business. The Jims Group is the biggest home services franchise in Australia.

A patio? That was completely unexpected. I love watching you work. You pay such attention to detail, never leaving any little vines or grass on the fence. You are not only a true professional, but a very talented lawn artist. When you complete a job, the lawn just shines. Your little top heavy trash can just kept falling over throughout the whole job. That would have driven me crazy, but you just picked it up and kept going. Awesome job! Can’t wait for part 3. ❤️

Hi George! Just wanted to reiterate all that l love about your transformation and reveal videos is how you tackle each section with multiple detailing techniques and equipment uses to expose these yards as they were originally intended. Your videos are a great example and answer to the age old question, "How do you eat an Elephant?… one bite at a time“. There were so many different kinds of reveals on this one. I liked the interlock stone patio reveal and removal of the trampoline. So much work and effort is noted down to the detailed cleaning of each section. Keep up the great work. I am inspired and look at overgrown yards differently now to see their full potential. Cheers!

Hi George You are to be commended for taking on a task like this. You've convinced me there is one great man in Australia. This is lawn care to the max. Way past doing some mowing and weed whacking. Your attention to detail, and thoroughness shines through in every part of the job. You've uncovered areas that the owner probably hasn't seen in ages. Wishing you the best of success in all you do. Stay safe

It all looked so haphazard and wild. And little by little, you started unearthing the terracing, which was a surprise. Especially the brick patio 😲. The topography of that yard is all slope, going sideways from a user point of reference, so a challenge to landscape, and an even bigger challenge to keep maintained I suspect. The trampoline was very ready to go 👍💯. Nice work George 💚💚💚.

I'm noting that the finding and clearing of the back walkway made a big difference, and being added to that, is the rediscovery of the terraces and their walls. The brick...pathway...became a very unexpected patio. Was glad, as you sorted this hidden puzzle, that the cleared plant on the one fence allowed the neighbor to have sunlight for a window again. You put in a lot of work and it is not only recovering the yard but allow it to start shifting to new uses, in present time.

George, a couple of observations: When doing these overgrown lawns, doesn’t it make sense to raise the mower up high, cut the grass (not bagging it) and go back after raking into piles for removal and then go over with the catcher. Currently, you’re having to dump the catcher many times at the start. Also, it seems the site you bring your clippings and rubbish accepts commingled waste. Not requiring you to separate the rubbish from the grass clippings. Is that right? That’s convenient.
