THE GREATEST 9-WORD META CLUES | Codenames w/ Friends

Welcome to Codenames! We're split up into two teams and have to guess our "secret" words before the opposing team. Each team has a spymaster who can see the entire board. The spymaster comes up with a word or phrase that can link as many correct words together as possible WITHOUT linking the opposing team's words. And if the gray word is chosen by either team, it's game over. Super fun game. I love being spymaster and losing my mind listening to my teammates figuring it out lol. Feels very much like being dead in Among Us and shouting at my computer monitor. Enjoy!

1:54:55 It's Chilled and Cheesy all over again! To recap that game, Chilled told Cheesy they would do a cheating round, Cheesy listed all the coordinates, everyone was confused by his system, and Chilled gave a clue describing most of the pieces as being in the shape of a man, repeating that clue several times.

Man, the problem with allowing positional or meta clues is that everyone always goes for just coordinates. Giving the exact positions of each card is dumb, but if you can put M 4 or Left 3 or Naruto Run 9, I think that's totally acceptable because it's just one clue.

I love whenever it's your turn to be the Spymaster since you come up with such great clues, often ones that Uneasy inevitably misunderstands, lol. I don't think I've ever seen a more brilliant clue than the Naruto-run meme round and I am glad that your team was able to come together to figure it out!

I think a leading space is usually the earliest sorting character, but a lot of systems chop off a leading or ending space when you commit the data entry for the name change.

I wouldn't think so. '!' is before '0' in the ASCII table. It's the lowest 'normal' character besides a space (and a space would probably get trimmed by discord, I'm guessing)

My college had a shared network drive (Win XP days) and people usually fought with named folders to be first with special chars, etc. I always made my folder something starting with Z so I could find it easily, always at the bottom. You’d get Horseshoe because of that horseshoes game and you’d get Flag & Bomb because of CTF (Capture The Flag) and how lots of video games have a bomb related gamemode. You could even potentially get Wizard & Skates because wizards are associated with fantasy games and skateboarding or ice skating are sorts of sports and hobbies which you could kinda lump together with games.

I think clues like Left and maybe M should be allowed. I remember being introduced to codenames with a clue that makes compound words with all of the words it connects to, and I kind of like more creative clues like that. Left is a singular word that gives a hint to the location of the team's words. I see it as about as bad as 0 clues, which are a fun and interesting aspect to the game, and better than allowing non-proper noun terms.

I'm honestly not a big fan of hers sometimes. She takes things way too seriously and will generally bring the mood down sometimes. And because you don't know when she'll be in this type of mood, for me it's more enjoyable when they don't have her in the mix, with any game.

Probably copy pasted. Chilled did that once for a title on Worms and had to post something about it because it was a title from an old video when he was still playing with the Derps. About the whole illegal clue bit around 1:40:00'ish, I seem to remember that clues can be both things that rhyme with the words and a whole lot of things essentially any semblance between the words except something that contains a word itself. I might be wrong, but I think games like these suffer a bit if the rules are too harsh.

Not sure about the official rules as I've only seen the game through Ze and Chilled, but they play specifically not allowing clue to be rhymes, locations, or begins with a letter. I know because Chilled explains it every time they introduce someone new to the game.

it explicitly has to refer to the meaning of the words, not their location, spelling, rhymes, etc. Which is not to say they can't RHYME. It's just a matter of playing in the spirit of the game and not cheesing it
