All we need is Silksong to wrap a nice little bow on top of this year and we have fully established indie game supremacy.

There's so many other cool games, be it already released or yet upcoming, that are worth talking about. Clash: Artifacts of Chaos, Soulstice, Blud, Cookie Cutter, Tiny Terry's Turbo Trip, Zet Zillions, Genokids, Kings of Hell (warning, that one's a bit spicy), Pipistrello and the Cursed Yoyo, The Mermaid's Tongue/The Mermaid Mask, Loco Motive, Enenra, Harold Halibut, Resistor, My Familiair, Fight'n Rage, GRIME, No Straight Roads... So much good stuff beyond what I could think of mentioning. Let's spread word on them all and support, by both praise and criticism alike, to help out such projects as much as possible.

Braid was programmed by 1 guy but he hired an artist and used stock sound effects. Cave story _was_ made by 1 guy, even including all the tools used to produce the sounds and art

Ok? I mean I love both games but “using stock sound effects” isn’t an argument. I think all indie games should be loved by different people distinguishing on quality (unless if it’s a scam or garten of banban) if it’s fun and compelling and gives someone joy, that’s all that matters. The indie scene is NOT a competition and it never was nor should it be, it’s about showing your ideas to the world and shouldn’t be a popularity contest, otherwise you might as well just be tossed with the AAA slop we had since the late 2010s…

Lots of 2d games with their own engine are made by one person. Honestly the best way to make a 2d game. Stardew, Axiom Verge, Celeste (Solo Programmer Only), Fez were all made by one guy on MonoGame which is a port of XNA which is the same Framework that Braid is made on.

If you're into word guessing games, I cannot recommend Typoman : Revised enough. It's a puzzle platformer in which you create words to progress through. Like if Limbo and Wordle had a baby. The esthetics and level design are really charming and I enjoyed it a ton. One of its achievements is super tedious to get though, so hunt at your own risk.
