I can't figure out why playing rook to C7 at 2:30 prevents the mating pattern shown just before that. It would play out a little different, as the black king could move to e7 after the white queen gives check, but the result would still be the same. Right?

After Rc7, Rxf6 doesn't work, because black can take back with the Queen. So that after Qh5+ he can play Qg6.
