The Immortal Game: Adolf Anderssen vs Kieseritzky [C33]
London, 1851
The Immortal Game was a chess game played by Adolf Anderssen and Lionel Kieseritzky in 1851 in London.
1.e4 e5 2.f4 exf4 3.Bc4 Qh4+ 4.Kf1 b5 [4...d6] 5.Bxb5 Nf6 6.Nf3 Qh6 7.d3 Nh5 8.Nh4 Qg5 9.Nf5 c6 10.g4 Nf6 11.Rg1 cxb5 12.h4 Qg6 13.h5 Qg5 14.Qf3 Ng8 15.Bxf4 Qf6 16.Nc3 Bc5 17.Nd5 [17.d4] 17...Qxb2 18.Bd6 [18.Nc7+; 18.Re1] 18...Bxg1 It is from this move that Black's defeat stems. Wilhelm Steinitz suggested in 1879 that a better move would be 18... Qxa1+; likely moves to follow are 19. Ke2 Qb2 20. Kd2 Bxg1. [18...Qxa1+ 19.Ke2 Qb2 20.Kd2 Bxg1] 19.e5 Qxa1+ 20.Ke2 Na6 21.Nxg7+ Kd8 22.Qf6+ Nxf6 23.Be7# 1--0

Thanks for this video and this playlist! Thank you Mato so much for all your hard work. At 5:36, not Bishop c7+, but Qxf7, only way (that I see) to prevent checkmate on e8 is Nf6, then Qxf6+ Kc8, Ne7+ Kd8, Nc6+ (double check) Kc8, Qd8+ RxQ, Ne7# checkmate! Smothered mate with knight and bishop heck yeah! I like that comment about 4:55 - 5:00 is you drinking coffee. Funny catch! Onoma Epitheto. I like that name too.

Like always a great game! But I have a question: Would QxF7 work too? If QxF7 there are two ways to react by either playing Ne7(or f6 doesnt really matter) or Qxe5! If Ne7, Qxe7 Checkmate (or if Nf6, Qxf6 checkmate)! If Qxe5 than Qf8 and after Qe8, Qxe8 checkmate (ok this would be 3 turns)! Thanks for your great work!

A very fine game indeed but this just proves how 'bad' the players were back in the 19th century. They mostly captured everything that was possible which left these incredible games full of sacrifices to the history books. No modern GM would have fallen into this kind of a trap.
@GoldinDr
@GoldinDr 8 жыл бұрын
+Zamppa86 I have to agree. An ordinary master-level player today would have handled this much better than Kieseritzky did, and he was supposedly one of the strongest players in the world at the time. So many of Morphy's breathtaking games rely on seriously weak moves by his opponents.

Zamppa86 in that times it just started making chess theory. You know don't take every piece you see because they take all pieces back then. That's not because you're smart, that's because they teached you this. Also no computers in that times so they can't analyse games, they have to see all of things

It might be an immortal game, but moving your queen 4 or 5 times in the opening seems like it would almost guarantees a loss. I was reading about the bishop's gambit ( 3. Bc4), and how 3. Qh4 was a common response. And maybe it's not a bad response, but the way it's played here, the queen ends up moving a lot of times, with almost no development for black. I am not sure how you can move the queen 5 times in the opening ( if those are all still in the opening,) and win.

If black moves the knight (to h6), then white can mate in three different ways: Q-e7, Q-f6, and B-e7.
@rypaz87
@rypaz87 11 жыл бұрын
@test0682 that's good for white insofar as black is undeveloping the queen and dropping a rook, but at this point white's queen is out of the action and giving up the initiative. White obviously had a solid positional plan lined up by now. That e5 move looks good when playing tit for tat, but it appears that Anderssen's move was better.
