The Canadair CL-415 (or Super Scooper) is a Canadian invention that changed the world. Anyone with the most basic understanding of trade knows that what Trump is planning to do will hurt American consumers far more than Canadian businesses. As a Canadian, I care about my southern neighbours even when I want to distance myself from them or stick to my side of borders. They deserve respect and integrity. These CL415 were then taken over b 10:55 y Viking air in Victoria BC and Calgary. Now it is part of De Havilland Canada. They have designed new models the CL515. Just saw the last flight of Coulsan Martin mars, those were amazing seeing them in Sproat lake.

long ago, I worked a summer job fighting forest fire (supposed to just canvas burnt area to put out remains) ended up on the biggest fire of the decade in Quebec and saw those amazing plane dropping water a few hundreds meters ahead of us while we walked the zone previously soaked making certain fire was dead. The original Canadair CL-215s were built in the Montreal suburb of Saint-Laurent back from 1969 to 1980's before it was sold off by Bombardier Aerospace to Viking Air.

Indeed.. Bombardier became the parent company of Montréal based Canadair and its CL-215 in 1976. In 1993 they've refined an improved version, the CL-415 with turboprops engines and other enhancements, at the Canadair facilities in Montréal (Dorval near the airport), which was responsible for the assembly and production of the CL-415. They kept the name "Canadair" as a branding for that type of plane, the original company name, hence the "CL" prefix. These are not "Super Scoopers", these are Canadair ! 🙂

I remember seeing these as a teenager up north in the LaRonge Wildfires (2015). I was working as a lifeguard/cabin leader at a bible camp near there, and the whole summer we were under a warning that we might have to evacuate. At one point we could see several super scoopers landing on the other side of the lake and taking off again. Then in 23, they helped save my parents community in the wildfires between Kamloops and Salmon Arm again. So much respect for these pilots, and very proud to see them getting the attention they deserve. Merci Canada. Merci Quebec

I saw these planes in action in the Kelowna,B.C wilfires 2003. Scooping water out from Okanagan Lake ,blasting the forest . So incredible and amazing The Martin Mars was there too. I take my hat off and applaud the Pilots for their skills.

I still remember how awe-struck I was the first time I saw one of these scooper planes back in the 1980s in BC. The paint job is striking and quite memorable and I was amazed at how it came down and scooped up the water in the lake and that it only took a few seconds to fill and back up it went. A relative of mine explained what the planes did and how they worked and I am still surprised that any country/region with regular forest fires and nearby salt water sources have not bought more of these. When I found out California only leased them from Quebec I was surprised as I figured they would be an ideal candidate since they are right on the ocean. And Quebec can only lease some of their fleet as they are normally under maintenance in the winter to be ready for the summer fire season in Quebec.

This is what it means to be Canadian. We are consistently deploying to situations around the world, in an aid stance. Despite what may be going on politically, economically, etc... To be Canadian is to help those in need, without hesitation.... This just shows the bonds between our two nations will always be deeper than trading partners. You Americans are also our brothers and sisters. Little crazy sometimes, but still loved regardless. We will always come help when needed.

Canadian pilots for these aircraft were born and raised as bush pilots and we know that bush pilots are the best as everyone knows in Canada, whether in northern Quebec, BC, Alberta ,NWT or Yukon, "You're either a good bush pilot or you're no longer with us!" Also, good bush pilots have a big set of oeufs, ha! Helps fighting fires on mountainsides...

This reminded me of the TV Show Ice Pilots NWT when the water bombers were used for fire extinguishing for wildfires in the Northwest Territories and places in the Canadian arctic.
