Watched England since 1986 and this is easily my most memorable game , the excitement , the build up , the old scores to settle. Michael owens solo goal was the most amazing goal I've watched , when he picked it up and just ran with it . I have only taken the english as rivals in the past just for political reasons. But if you think about it, it is not the people who are to blame but the damn governments since they are the ones who make the decisions. In the case of England: an old harpy. steve edwards I watched this live and Sol's goal was perfectly legit, and so was Shearer's jump. He was doing what all players in the box do at set pieces: use their arms for leverage and momentum. Going back to 1986 I think practically every tournament has ended for England based on penalties, cheating opposition, or poor refereeing decisions.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but this game is nowhere near as good as some other World Cup games. My personal favourite is the 2006 semi final between Germany & Italy. Germany hadn't lost in that stadium for over 70 years. Both teams had their chances. It went to extra time where Gilardino hit the post & a minute later Zambrotta rattled one off the crossbar. In the end with penalties looming at that point Italy had never won a shootout & Germany had never lost one. The corner by Del Piero, the neat little pass by the impeccable Pirlo, the curling shot by Grosso. Not to mention the celebration of the goal. Seeing Canavarro jump into Gigi's arms. And a minute later seeing Canavarro with an interception giving the ball to Totti who found Gilardino who then signals Del Piero to go around him who then strokes the ball home with the last kick of the game. That is the best advert for international soccer I have ever seen. Italy goes on to win the World Cup, but for my money that was the game of the tournament & the best I ever saw at a World Cup. Just my 2 cents, but re-watch it it is a classic!

Laughing that they might suggest in this video that the red card was harsh, Beckham should have controlled his temper in that moment, it was stupid. It was nowhere near as harsh as the Rooney one against Portugal as you could see in that moment Rooney was being fouled and pulled all over the place by two Portuguese players and was partly off balance. It doesn't matter how Simeone reacted to Beckhams flick kick, Beckham had the free kick, he just needed to get up and get on with it. England could have won it, going down to 10 was always going to make it a mountain to climb
