lol, not sure if they'd get matched. When Flash was practicing his Protoss during his Random Season he was 7th on the ladder, easily 500 mmr higher than RTs MMR range. RT got enough Protoss and Zerg smurfs, Flash wouldn't bother styling on him he'd just crush RT with standard pressures. I'd rather see Flash do a 10 Min TvT to remind RT Chat that TvT CAN finish faster than 1-2 business days.

SC Evo is fun and all, but I hope everyone realises it's just a fun little temporary thing. It's never going to be close to balanced, and it is still plagued by the things that generally make SC2 inferior to BW.

@@Cernunn0s90 as if BW itself is balanced lol, things like darkswarm and stasis are overpowered as heck, then you have the terrible control and pathing issue that would make any new players quit in a few minutes, People keep pretending it's a perfect game but in reality, it's plagued with even more issues than SC2. Players can easily lose the game not because they have bad strategies but because the game itself is full of flaws. There are reasons why people watch SC1more than actually play the game, lol. Also, why going against SC Evo? It doesn't interfere BW scene anyway, it's mostly for SC2 players, not SC1 players. The devs also try their best to balance it too.

Armada finished first in 15 melee tournaments in a row playing what is considered the seventh best character. At the same time he was winning doubles at the majority of those same tournaments playing with his brother, who was never ranked higher than 66th in the world. Niftski sets 20 world records a year in mario games--games which have been optimized to the point of being frames away from TAS, needing countless frame-perfect, sub-pixel perfect inputs and setups. Magnus Carlsen went 125 tournament games in a row without losing. Bobby Fischer went 11-0-1 in a tournament against 12 grandmasters (for perspective, about half of top-level chess games are drawn). Kai Budde won 7 Pro Tours in Magic. 5 in a 2 year period. I love Flash. I've watched him since he was a 16 year old kid in a dropship war against Boxer, taking the metaphorical terran crown. He's absolutely unbelievable, both in terms of peak and longevity, but calling him unambiguously the best in any game comes off as elitist, desperate, and pandering.

Armada was my first thought too. In his ~11 year career he never placed lower than 5th at any tournament and for 8 of those years there were only 6 players total who ever won a set against him. And he had winning records against all 6 of those players overall. Flash is great but to say nobody has come close is really just not true

No one cares about winning 15 random melee tournaments. 2x2 matters very little in goat debate and armada was not winning every 2x2 tournament with his brother. There are arguments for armada but what you posted were terrible arguments. Niftski? he's playing a singleplayer game with no pressure from his opponent. Reminds me of that 3 point champion basketball guy losing to Kenny smith on inside the nba. Not comparable to flash in term of skill level. Magnus Carlsen plays chess, and last time I checked chess isn't a video game. Kai budde who? You tell me if it's easier to play starcraft at the highest level or a card game. Flash is the greatest gamer of all time due to how difficult starcraft is and the absurdity of Flash's dominance across different time period. However, Mang0/Daigo/Rapha/OGRE2/Faker/n0tail/Serral is in the conversation.

Those are fair points, but a major thing in Flash's credit is his dominance since the beginning, and if he comes back and dominates yet again it would be hard to argue for anyone else. Armada is great, and he is certainly still in the GOAT conversation, but it's impossible to argue that the competition has leveled up multiple times since his retirement. I won't really comment about Niftski, as I am not familiar enough with speedrunning. Carlsen absolutely is a counterexample. Giving the middle finger to FIDE and leaving the entire scene considering a WC that doesn't go through him basically invalid speaks volumes for his dominance and impact. Kai Budde is definitely a great, and he has returned occasionally to some success, though never to the previous level he displayed. Magic is sort of an anomaly in terms of competition in that variance plays such a large role and makes it difficult for the true greats to be truly dominant. Budde did this early on, but this was before many things were figured out, and before the internet made it feasible to "solve" a meta or come very close. I would personally argue PVDDR is closer to the GOAT for performing so well in the modern era.

I hope Flash is back, actually a lot because he draws in the crowd. I don't celebrity endorsement much; it's gimmicky, but fortunately/sadly SC tournaments just get so hype with him! I'd prefer him going Random. That way we might get to witness his Terran play a couple of times, it's a massive surprise/excitement element, it cuts his peak skill so to make it a little bit more fair for the other players, but for the potential nerf his opponents also don't get to practice as effectively. = Random>

When I talk about Rapha (the best FPS gamer to ever exist), the only person I can even compare him to is FlaSh, both won their first big tournaments in 2008 and continued to be a dominating force all the way until today. Rapha most recently won QuakeCon in 2023 and hasn't stopped at all, it's just a shame Arena FPS doesn't get the viewership or recognition these days.
