The Greatest Godzilla Short Film Ever Made?

Toho Studios has made a short film on Godzilla vs Hedorah and it may be one of the best Gojira movies in a while! The smog monster returns to fight the radioactive dinosaur and a very good homage to the 1970's film is made in the process!

The original Godzilla VS Hedorah was always one of my favourites because of how dark it actually got, while still keeping a wacky 70’s psychedelic vibe. There are full on skeletons in the film, people dying in their masses, and even a cat covered in sludge surrounded by human corpses. Which juxtaposes heavily against the animated sequences and fish head people. ITS SUCH A WEIRD FILM I love it!

This is by far one of the weirdest Godzilla movies I've ever seen, but in away that made it better, because you didn't know what was coming next in this weird ass monster movie, if you got a vap or smoke weed I suggest take a couple of hits before you start the movie, cause you about to see some of the most bat shit craziness for a Kaiju movie,💯

I'm really glad that Toho showing love to the 04 Godzilla suit. That one was so short-lived and I was pretty disappointed and final wars when it first came out because we only got to see so little of that Godzilla which was possibly with their best design yet.

I had grown up with Final Wars and always was intrigued by Hedorah. Recently I watched almost all the films, including the original Godzilla vs Hedorah and I see a resemblance in appeal with Shin Godzilla's ideas found in Hedorah (and I love the human acting and Godzilla's introduction in Ebirah's movie)

I love this Godzilla short film because they use practical effects that I love and reusing Godzilla and Hedorah suit specially my favorite Godzilla design from my favorite Godzilla film of all time, Godzilla final wars. When I first watched this short film, I had a big smile on my face from beginning to end. I really hope Toho does more of these short films because it had a good reception from the audience and g-fans alike.

I'm one of those who adores "Godzilla vs. Hedorah" because it's just such a completely unique entry in the Showa series. The fact that it's as weird and trippy as it is, as surreal in spots as it is, is why I love it so. It's also--forgive the overused term, here--a really dark and atmospheric entry into the saga. Banno-san took a lot of chances with this movie and I'm glad he did. This new short, is there a link to it? Final Wars was intensely disappointing for me because it was a show reel of how bad ass Godzilla is for the most part, and the only part I really liked was when the pretender from 1998 was swatted down with contempt by the real deal in seconds. Brief snippets of monster battles don't cut it with me. I'd love to see this short!

If I'm being honest I feel like the real reason you didn't like final wars was probably because hedorah wasn't even used in the film that much. So far it seemed the fans that adore vs hedorah are the same fans that don't like final wars that much and vice versa

I hope to see more with Toho Studioes making shorts reusing their old suits. I am absolutely in love seeing the Final War suits being used again after 18 years from being on the big screen. Hoping they do something with the Mechagodzilla suits for the anniversary for those films that the suits came from.

I can’t wait to get the Criterion Godzilla Collection from the Showa period. I love the Toho style monster movies, even the knockoff Toho style monster movies are great too. I really hope that they release the Heisei and Millennium Periods in a decent collection (Criterion or through another company), it would be great to see them remastered and possibly have some good special features too.

This fight was soo hype! Of all the monsters in final wars hedorah was the one I wanted to see the most and it was barely in it! I’m so glad they finally put that suit to good use! Seeing all that smoke and gunk as hedorah and Godzilla got at it is rad!! Makes one still hopeful for a return to suitmation

Gamera Revenge of Iris is proof the suitmation can still work WITHOUT looking goofy. Too bad it never really got any better after that. We might still see it being used today if the cinematography had evolved appropriately to accentuate the technique

I mean....to be fair gamera 3 came out in 1999 before the 2000s all together. This film was a legitimate modern day suitmation project meanwhile gamera 3 was released when suitmation was still used commonly

The whole "Tanaka hated Banno" is one of those lasting rumors in the same vain as "King Kong vs Godzilla had 2 endings". Tomoyuki Tanaka did not ban Banno from making another Godzilla film for his life, he just stated he didn't like how he changed Godzilla's character in the film by making him more appealing to children, which is ironic considering he was all for that since King Kong vs Godzilla going against Ishiro Honda's wishes of keeping Godzilla more serious and less child appealing. As for the flying scene Banno stated he got permission from Tanaka's agency and even said he made in a way so it could be edited out in case Tanaka did not like it. But what turned out from Banno's interview was Tanaka's dislike of the psychedelic and fish heads stuff because they made the film too weird in his opinion according to his words.

I downloaded this movie and have watched it god knows how may times. I love the fact that TOHO made this short movie. I REALLY HOPE that they pit Godzilla against more of his enemies in the future in short films like this. Think of it: an entire little franchise of short Godzilla films done in the style of the short movie with Hedorah.

If you want another good short by toho, i recommend to search up Always sunset on third street 2, it was a scrapped movie and only 2 minutes of it was released. The movie shows toho's second or third attempt of using a cgi godzilla, they dont use zilla thankfully, but use a more classic design.

I really loved this short film. The suits specifically Godzillas suit is awesome, i have a thing for the final wars suit and hedorah looks so realistic, the only issue i have is the suits look too fake, just shows how the suits are aging. But seeing how it used practical and how Toho shot this outside like the Heisei Gamera Trilogy. Overall just a great Little peace to celebrate Godzillas birthday

Making GODZILLA fly was the nail in Mr. Bano's coffin. Mr. Tanaka was justified in firing him from the group of directors. Banno would latter direct: GOKE - Body snatcher from Hell and War of the Insects for other film studios. P.S. Godzilla's Revenge/ All Monsters Attack is a non-cannon fantasy and it was the original Home Alone movie as well

I wish they'd dust off the Mogegoji suit and give us a little short on how Godzilla Junior's doing. Going by what Emi said, he never attacks Japan as his father did, but his fate is uncertain, as Emi states that nuclear energy is banned in the 21st century Heisei Godzilla timeline, so sustaining himself could be a problem.

If Toho does this again, I'm hoping we see more short films with Godilla facing off against other classic monsters like Anguirus, Ebirah and so on. Hell, if they wanted to, they could create updated suits of classic toho kaiju like Varan, Gorosaurus and Titanosaurus and use them in short films. Just my thoughts, though. lol

We love Godzilla. Hes my favorite hero/antihero, savior/villain monsters,....er creatures ever. This big guy has bee5in over 30 movies, 3y a actually and I can remember as a kid, hiding under a blanket watching through the cracks bete5my fingers as I hid behind my hands. Every Friday night, 12:00 at midnight it was Creature Feature time. Mom used to make real popcorn on the stove. Lots of it. Poured it in big, brown paper grocery bags. Melted a stick of butter, and pour it on!!! Those were what we called the ' good ole days ' We still carr6on the tradition, but its DBDs and mi microwave popcorn.
