Yeah, they formed in 97 with Quake, and really rose to prominence with Counter-Strike. What sets SK apart in wow is, I believe, they were the first major "brand" guild/clan to branch into WoW and fund a roster, that roster was Curse (yes the same curse from the video) , and bring sponsorship to WoW, along with rival Mousesports, another Counter-Strike org who invested in Nihilum. Eventually SK Gaming ended up taking ownership of Nihilum's roster, with the name Nihilum being kept by Mousesports. And most assuredly the "motherland" of modern competitive gaming was Counter-Strike and Quake. Tons wrong in the video in that segment.

I'm a fan of you @Punkrat, but I'm really shocked to not see Elitist Jerks anywhere. I cannot name a guild that impacted Vanilla/TBC quite like them. They crunched most of the numbers to figure out mechanics and strats for most of the community. Yeah, they had their inner turmoil and arrogance, but they were THE guild to listen to and follow in the early days. I think most of us followed their class/strategy guides to the T, there was nothing quite like them.

Some important facts that are missing - ensidia was a merge of sk gaming and nihilum and kungen was not the gm. - sk gaming was Curse but got renamed due to a sponsorship deal. - method didn't rise in mop, they were consistently in top 10 since vanilla and got world 2nd vashj for example.

SK Gaming was an huge esport organisation before and absorbed curse as a pve guild during tbc as Wow pve was so popular back in the day. There was even a small tv station for gaming in germany that showed raids on tv. Thats also why you don't have curse first kills in the end of tbc and no sk gaming first kills at the beginning, they were the same people, they where kind of the number two in Burning Crusade and thats why SK gaming sponsored them to push them over nihilum, which eventually worked in sunwell.

Indeed, Curse (the guild) actually renamed to Sk Gaming at the end of TBC. Also Ensidia wasn't "Nihilum 2.0" per se. They are actually the merge of Nihilum and Sk Gaming (ex Curse) in order to form a "super guild".

Personally miss Deus Vox, I was never part of it but they were the top raiding guild of Laughing Skull. The day cataclysm came the guild ended and our server went from full to medium just like that.

I raided with Curse who was absorbed by SK gaming, who later merged with Nihilum to become Ensidia. SK Gaming was already very well established in eSports with a huge community/social network akin to Facebook back then from the Counter Strike scene. Just thought that should be corrected otherwise cool video man.

I'm pretty sure the leader of Blood Legion was the leader of an alliance guild on Stormreaver server named Duality. They were constantly number 2 on the server behind Impervious who had the crazy rogue Jider who soloed 25man Patchwork during Wotlk.

Besides hearing of them randomly from time to time before classic's launch, the only way I learned about them was through a video from StaySafeTV where he invited numerous members from each of the popular pserver guilds and talked to them about classic wow for like 2 hours (it's on youtube). Muradin was the guild to beat for our server. Vaosan was the first person I ever saw with the 310% mount in TBC. They had some realm firsts during Wrath. I think during or after Wrath they fizzled out.

Anyone from Whisperwind back in vanilla through Wrath has fond memories of Oasis/Exalted, and the guild leader, Yuk. He reached across factions, held server-wide events with prizes, and was overall a class-act. Classic actually brought a lot of former members back (including Yuk), and we can be found on Atiesh, if any former Whisperwind players want to come say hello!

Satsuki Kiryūin True. I started playing WoW 2 years ago. Unfortunately I missed the good times. I remember how big it was back around 2008. My whole school played it and it was populair like Fortnite is today. The gaming community has drastically changed. People want rewards without effort. WoW Classic will never attract the younger generation because of that. No one wants to pay €15 a month for a outdated game where you need to put a lot of time in to achieve something small. Instant rewarding creates more dopamine and holds your attention longer. The WoW ‘generation’ also has grown up and lost interest in the game itself. Call of Duty suffers from the same problem. They aren’t relevant since Black ops 2. People just want to be a champion without putting in the time, work and effort. Games like Fortnite are great for that. In my opinion, I think that WoW retail will hold some subscribers for a few years. But the interest will die out eventually. Especially when things like the PS5 and the next Fortinite/PuBG comes out. I think that Classic Wrath with progression could maybe evolve in something great.

fury was only significant in that the door to bwl broke and no one could get past vael. fury somehow got through their door while the rest of the entire world could not go further than vael for a brief time, giving them a head start on everyone else. they never finished a dungeon first, and in fact they didn't finish MC, Onyxia, BWL, or AQ40 first on their own server. Ascent on Horde side beat them to all of those finishes on Medivh.

Missed the whole drama if Dragon Soul and looking for raid where the top world guilds were exploiting the lockout to get the all powerful 4 set bonuses. This resulted in multiple guild suspensions and taking a lot of top world guilds out of the race. A few even called it quits after this

DnT was big in AQ, they would of gotten wfirst cthun and kelthuzad if it wasn't for blizzard cucking them purposefully. Blizz literally would wait to release patches to fix bugs once dnt was done raiding just in time for when nihilum would start. This was to spite vocal people like XI who called out blizz for being shit.

The devs were definitely up to fuckery back then. I cant say they "purposefully" fucked over DnT, but it wouldnt surprise me. I quit wow shortly after we were doing cthun runs on the beta server. The devs would get on our vent and talk to us while we would test the encounter. They seemed always super happy with how broken alot of shit was early on. I know a couple other guilds like death n taxes were doing the same and we would sub some people in and out. I dont remember the other guilds anymore but im fairly sure a few others helped. Its been what like 15-16 years? My memory is fuzzy on all but the most basic stuff.

Every guild I've made failed. Because the playerbase is largely moronic and not as active as me. During wotlk I made a guild that had mount runs, dueling tournaments and super simple and fair rules that promoted mature environment. But people can't follow the most basic rules. Very sad.

Also Blood Legion was dominated by Method during MoP and not otherwise / they secured just one world first last boss kill. You should speak more about Paragon / Method in my opinion because they invented the new raiding.

we still know dat paragon is still strongest guild to this day. many have failed, contrreversy , lies , payment, taxes , even hackin the game , some did XPloit. paragon beat hardest mop bosses 10hc, beat wod bosses with clever idea nobody thought like them, dont want to mention LK or Rag they were hard bosses. they stayed true their nature. Didnt become English speaking guild instead they played only with finnish ppl which is hard for eu players. If they had 20-25 Raiders i still think they wouldve got few more world firsts.
