A Video by Maximum - First released in June of 2010, Happy Wheels has gone on to become one of the most popular and influential flash games ever created. The game had speedrunning essentially built into its DNA, with its in-game replay and leaderboard system motivating countless players to play the same levels hundreds, if not thousands of times to try and squeeze out every last millisecond of improvement. However, over on the game's speedrun.com page, there is a multi-level category that has been optimized almost entirely by one speedrunner over the course of 8 years. After over 100,000 attempts and thousands of hours of playtime, Dray has produced a Happy Wheels speedrun that stands far above what anybody else has managed to accomplish in the game. This is the story of the greatest Happy Wheels speedrun that nobody knows about.

beautiful video! i really think theres only one thing i want to say about all of this there have been countless times where I questioned if it was worth continuing after full days of no progress the number one thing that made me keep going was knowing how good of a game this was, and knowing that if I never get THE run, there is a good chance no one else ever will All i wanted was to give the game the run it deserves and i finally made it happen no matter what goal you are tying to reach, keep going its worth it in the end :)

There is more insane shit in SMB1 Any% speedruns. One of the glitches requires pixel perfect and frame perfect jumps both at one. It’s a glitch wall jump and is really hard to do and luck to do while on a world record pace and if you fail, run is dead and having to do a lot of glitches before it that’s also perched button presses.

Honestly, I can't comprehend the determination of Dray, speedrunning a game this much even when you're beating yourself all alone. I understand the moral of the story, but even tho speedrunning is better as an accomplishment for yourself than for fame, personally, speedrunning a game, discovering strats, and beating my own time with no one to compete with feels depressing as heck. Maybe it's because he kept competing with other speedrunners in other categories, or maybe not I don't know, but as a speedrunner on a really small speedrun community, it almost feels impossible to think that someone speedrunned a category mostly by himself for literal years. It truly is a great achievement that Dray accomplished. Thank you a lot for relating it Max!

I've actually mastered and pioneered/improved some techniques in happy wheels myself. (Like wall climbing, faster non vehicle movement, and murdering someone without a vehicle, using justin bieber as body armor, wheelchair guy hover and more.) and i really love how happy wheels is still talked about, definitely a good ass childhood game. I personally loved the WWE levels

Oh my goddd, I used to speed run happy wheels during Japanese class with a friend of mine in year 9. Learnt all of the speed running strats and we’d have a scoreboard to see who had the fastest times in the unblocked demo version. This brings back soooo many memories, good times!

For those wondering today - Dray did eventually go and beat the 2:30 barrier, reaching a time of 2:27 with great optimization. However as of 4 months ago that is no longer 1st place. 1st place in Demo is now held by Skyfidel with a time of 2:13 - the strategy was dismounting at the beginning of 'Dawn of the Dead' and setting yourself up with one of the zombies to launch the character directly into the goal, no helicopter required. This saved 14 seconds as compared to Dray's Dawn
