My Church Father already came over to Bless the house, with our son holding the candle walking in front of him from room to room. Father did Prayers in Romanian and English. Then splashed Holy water all over the place 😊 including the icons, walls, ceilings, 😅and us, with a bundle of Basil and a metal water bucket. He brought his Cross and we venerated it as he was leaving. At the end he sat at the dinner table for a visit and asked my husband how his health was, asked our son how school was. Asked how i was. We have a huge Pitbull/Rottweiler dog that barks (he's harmless) and the Church Father put his hand out to him and said "I like big dog. I have a big dog. Don't worry about putting him in a room, he can stay" (In our pamphlet about House Blessings it says to lock up all animals. Not sure the exact reasons. (Maybe they are too distracting)?. Anyway it was a lovely blessed visit and it was an honor having him in our home. ☦️🙏💜

How St John Chrysostom compiled our main Divine liturgy, like a best man of importance to the bridal chamber of the Church. How he spoke truth to power and was exiled and later martyred by royalty. How St John of Kronstadt preceded the evil Bolsheviks and led masses to repentance and sanctity

@GregoryTimby-l4n3 күн бұрын
I am not sure where you get "doubt" from that passage. It indicates more that John, before his impending and nessesary death, is directing his own disciples to turn and follow the Christ. God be with you.

When does this house-blessing period end? I want to know when my local priest is least likely to be busy such that I can write to him and ask a few questions, if this is even an appropriate thing to do in the first place (I am not Orthodox).

I would say go after a Divine Liturgy. They usually chat with us after service and you can ask him when he has time to see you. ( The time between Christmas and Easter is pretty busy). The only downtime of the Church would be summer-beggining of fall.

I’m not sure about other Orthodox traditions, but we have a coffee hour right after Divine Liturgy almost every Sunday at my Greek parish. The less you are of the world the greater God considers you. This man ate insects and didn't even drink anything other than wine. Was homeless living in the wild and didn't even wear regular clothing. Saint Francis came close to this kind of living. But John the Baptist did it since his youth while Saint Francis lived a cardinal life them repented.
@smaragdamili44222 сағат бұрын
I think he didn't eat insects. Ακρίδες means a type of insect but I heard a Father say that here the word refers to the άκρες ,the end parts of the leaves of weeds, wild edible plants such as chickory and others.

Father, I always had trouble reconciling Jesus' proclamation that among those born of women, none greater has arisen than John the Baptist, with the Church's teaching, and my belief, that the greatest human being ever born (other than Jesus, of course) was the Theotokos. The Greek text doesn't say the greatest man, but the greatest one, as in person. Can you explain this?
@sshields217313 күн бұрын
question: what is meant by John 6:53?? "Jesus said to them, “Very truly I tell you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you." ? If this is referring to the Eucharist and the roman catholic & orthodox believe they are the one true church then how is it that the heterodox have faith in Jesus Christ? How do non-orthodox have faith life if they aren't receiving Christ's body and blood ??

I was wondering if you would give us English some guidance of the correct response to evil in context of the grooming gangs and government culpability therein. It seems very grave that no one is willing to do right out of fear of the law, to what extent are authorities complicit in such as ours are illegitimate? To what extent is it our duty to suffer in pursuit of justice for the weak and vulnerable. Probably not phrasing it very well, but what has happened is so severe that it is very hard to properly address.

Yeah I struggle with the idea that perfect littles babies are born sinners. Jesus said to be like the “babes” I believe. Not sure if that’s to mean babies, toddlers, a 10 year old, or all the above. No cross to bear huh. I don’t know what that statement really means to you. All I know for sure is that it can be interpreted at least 7 ways. In the KJV of the Bible Jesus at Luke 14:27 had apparently said “And whosoever doth not bear his cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple.” Make of it what you will I suppose.
