Great video and thanks for the shoutout. I would just like to clarify that I do still sell Contax T2's as long as I know they have been serviced. I no longer source compact cameras because I cannot guarantee the quality. But if I have cameras come in that I can guarantee then I still sell them. Cheers and keep up the great content.

First: Excellent video! Second: Choose a yashica t3 (super) for street - it even has a "new angle scope", which helps taking pictures from low angles and it will only wind the film to the next frame if you let loose of the shutter button, so you can shoot nearly noiseless 😊 aaaaaaand it's f2.8 *mic drop* ... *picking up the mic again* It's a lot cheaper than the t4 as well. Bye. *final mic drop* 😁
@detectivejonesw3 жыл бұрын
I agree, I have a yashica t3, 4 and 5 and the t3 is the most useful for street, and for its lower price the best value for money. Maybe if I had to pick one I would keep the t4 because it's the smallest but for street the t3 is the best option
@KarinMajoka3 жыл бұрын
@@detectivejonesw I had the t2 (which is pretty much the same as the t3 just with f3.5 instead of f2.8) as well and the winding mechanism makes it pretty good for street indeed! However, it's almost double the size of the t4.

The 35ti is the greatest point and shot ever made. The way this thing works is pure voodoo.
@randallstewart12243 ай бұрын
I bought both the 35Ti ($415)and the T2 ($400), shot on-film lens test (test charts), and used each for a week. I resold the 35Ti and kept the T2. Why? The lens on the Nikon was absolutely sharper at its best, but the T2 was nearly as sharp, and that sharpness covered most of the image, whereas the Nikon image quality fell off into the edges and corners. Theoretically, the matrix metering of the NIkon should be better, but in practice, it was a wash. The controls of the T2 are logical and simple to us. The 35Ti must be the most non-ergonomic camera ever made, with multi-level memos required to use its vast list of function selections. You literally cannot use those functions without a 50-page manual in your lap as a guide. The 35Ti is a great electronic toy to mess around with endlessly, but the T2 is just a plain old taker of photos. So, it depends on whether you are buying a camera to mess around with its complications or to take photos. (I made a $15 profit on the 35Ti resale.) 25 years later, I still have the T2, if little used. Today, I'd buy neither at their inflated prices, going for a Konica Big Mini at lower cost, or Konica Hexar AF if I wanted to pay for the best P-n-S camera ever made.

just a small correction, in the 35ti you can set the flash to never set off, meaning that you will have to press the button for it to flash, instead of pressing the button for it not to flash. The manual is a bit confusing but close to the end there is a table which allows you to control multiple functions of the camera.

My first point and shoot was the Ricoh R1, the long forgotten predecessor to the GR1. 30mm f/3.5 lens, as tiny as the more famous and Ricoh camera, but with fewer features. However, it also regularly sells for US$150-200 in excellent to mint condition, so it's an easy recommendation for a beginner who might not want to invest a lot of money. My second point and shoot camera is the Fuji Natura S. The non-black versions sell for around US$500-600, and it has a sharp 24mm f/1.9 lens that I absolutely adore. It will also automatically push DX-coded ISO 1600 film +2EV, so it's a perfect nighttime street camera.

The R1 is fantastic! I have an R1e that I managed to buy for 7€, had a great time shooting it. It produced insane results for such a small camera. Unfortunately, as it is a fully electronic camera, you never know how much life is left in it - mine just stopped working all of the sudden and wouldn't turn on. That's the gamble with these sort of cameras - they're super fun to have, but they're a gamble. I only lost 7€, but the same can happen to cameras that are going for well over 500€ as well.

Video @ 14:36 - "some value" - Well, where most point & shoots have their little 'ticking-time-bombs', is in the lens tucking The lens connections become severed via the use of flexible printed circuits. With enough 'Paperclip Bending' (opening & closing the lens), those connections become open (break). Better to own the non moving lens models. The Yashica T3 is fixed and has a FASTER Zeiss optic (f/2.8) than the more fragile & expensive T4 ! - Also, when the age weaknesses are corrected (hardened), the Nikon L35AW point & shoot IS THE BEST value with special features for the advanced amateur. - Its TACK Sharp lens ! - It's weatherized, has AF choice visible inside the VF, true manual focus, YOU control manual flash and the film leader is left out when rewound ! - For B&W DIY developers, this last feature is the bombBTW, I own all the premium AF P&S's : Leica Minilux, Contax T2, T3, Nikon 35Ti, Yashica T3 etc. - But that Nikon is unquestionably my favorite...

Regardless of cameras breaking, if you're willing to shake out the cash you can find people who can repair them... for reference my local camera shop was able to fix my loose top plate on my Contax T :) some people are good with reviving old electronics too, so as long as you get a mechanical camera without/wit little electronics, you should be mint! If you find photography interesting, skip the likes of these cameras and consider other options ranging from fixed lens rangefinders to SLR's - with useful controls that are easy to use from an ergonomic standpoint. Whenever KZbinrs make "The greatest [INSERT SOMETHING]" videos, they usually feature only those items they personally own - not the actual legit list of candidates to whatever greatest. The Yashica T4 and the Nikon 35Ti? Those are second tier cameras. Can you name one successful or famous photographer that produced work with either of these? Certainly that would be a requirement for the greatest point & shoot film cameras? Example: The venerable Konica Hexar AF. It was good enough for Annie Leibovitz and David Solomons. It's better in most respects to all three of these cameras features. Best viewfinder in class. Best lens in class. Best handling in class. Most silent shutter, most silent film transport. Oh, and it's cheaper than most of the alternatives, even today. But hey, click bait titles is the name of the game on KZbin...
@VirtualGuth2 жыл бұрын
Let's see, fashion photographer Terry Richardson shot with the Yashica T4, which is a big reason prices are what they are for these cameras today. The T4 first caught my eye back in 2000 thanks to David Bradford's book "Drive-by Shootings", shot entirely with T4 cameras. A lot of the popularity enjoyed by cameras like those in the video has to do with their size and retractable lenses. P&S cameras are fun and handy to have on hand. I'd much rather have a camera that allows for interchangeable lenses. The suggestion to buy a far cheaper P&S to start with was a good one. If a person ends up enjoying photography, then I'd recommend skipping additional point & shoot cameras and buying a more serious camera. There are plenty of fixed lens rangefinders to choose from, but those cameras allowing interchangeable lenses are where it's at in my opinion.
