One of my favourite recordings he did, was the Fibich Symphony No.3 on Supraphon. It didn't get too much recognition because of the lesser known composer. The recording has a zip, airiness with plenty of that Czech atmosphere.

I heard them with Zdenek Macal and Philly Orchestra at the Mann Music Center.

I've been looking far and wide for this recording and I just found one. My go-to recording of the Slavonic Dances has been Talich and the Czech Philharmonic (on Suraphon), but it was recorded in 1950 and the sonics are bad.

Gotta check your playlist again for the greatests ones. I always listen to the "Dances" after the "Rhapsodies". So if both are on a single disc, I'll go for it. Have the Košler & Slovak PO from the NAXOS complete published box-set. Congrats on another milestone. Please, don't slow down unless you really need it. Thanks Dave.

He made exceptional recordings of the Dvorak 6 and 7, and Ma Vlast.

Well... why is it so special? Just my humble opinion (I am no musician, after all...) Šejna was originally a double bass player, member of the orchestra... and the melodic and rhythmic bass line (I would rather say the base line) is really essential for Dvořák (same as in the baroque music, in fact).

Out of print (why not?😢)

I have found it available for streaming on Qobuz. Idagio, alas, doesn't have much of the Supraphon catalog yet, but Qobuz appears to. As stated in the review, the early stereo sonics are a bit thin in places, but the performances really DO come through.

[Trying this reply again.] I found it available for streaming on Qobuz (it, like much of the Supraphon catalog, isn't yet on Idagio). As stated in the review, the early stereo sonics are a bit thin in places, but the performances definitely come through.

A limited number of the CDs is still available on sale by Supraphon or Fermata, if you buy it in Czechia, it costs the astronomic CZK 167 (USD 7,42) (30 per cent discount).

David, thanks you so much for widening my appreciation of Dvorak. Currently, I have been taking a “deep dive” into his glorious chamber works. With every work, I’ve been saying to myself, “Where has this been my whole life”
