Hello Pastor Brent [ @pastorbrentreacts ] ! Nightwish fan here, your musical quest summoned me. Welcome to the world of symphonic metal! And thank you for checking this legendary band! This live recording is from Wembley Arena in 2015, together with Floor Jansen [pronounced Yansen], the 3rd and present female singer of the band, in front of an wild audience. About the instrumental and vocal added parts - it's good to know they recorded their orchestral and vocal back tracks with prestigious institutions as London Philharmonic Orchestra. London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir as their regular partners. Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the [updated] short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory): " Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland. Tuomas Holopainen [pronounced Tuo-mas], the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. [Sami Vanska was the bassist of the band starting with their 2nd studio album, he was with them until 2001. Then Marco Hietala was bassist and vocals, since 2001 to 2020. He recently announced his retirement both from the band and the public life for the next year at least. Then in May 2021 Jukka Koskinen [pronounced Yukka] became the bassist of the band, for the Human :II: Nature tour - and recently, the band announced he became a permanent member] And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen [he also recorded the bass lines for their 1st studio album]. Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen [pronounced Yukka] is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition. Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen [pronounced Tarr-ya] (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just heard her. There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). I hope this helps. I want to welcome you to the Nightwish community. I hope you like them enough to continue the journey. Believe me Nightwish will surprise you with their songs. You will never know what to expect. They are unbelievable live. I want to warn you that Nightwish fans are hard core. So be prepared. lol " For an extended set of suggestion (with links), I posted 2 huge comments in the community tab in my main YT channel: www.youtube.com/@gabriel.bardac/community

Hi Pastor Brent, it's is so tolerant and understanding of you, coming from the point of view of the beliefs that you have. That you can still appreciate the art. The world would truly be a better place if we were all more tolerant and respectful of others and their beliefs. Thank you for your reaction, and I do hope you continue. Most of their work doesn't challenge religious beliefs (with the exception of a couple). I hope you can continue and just enjoy the superb work they create. Kind Regards from the UK.

Tuomas Holopainen. the keyboardist/composer of this is also a big fan of Hans Zimmer. It IS a space scene - the song is about the creation of the Earth and the evolution and development of life. Literally "evolving" - The Greatest Show On Earth.

Not everybody here is impressed with the reaction lol I’ve had to delete lots of comments that have been very inappropriate lol 😂 I understand why people are reacting the way they’re reacting, though, it’s the stereotype of pastors and the damage that they’ve done to people over the years. Not all pastors are the same just like not all evolutionists are the same. It’s really easy to hurt people when you put a stereotype on them. It takes the humanity out of the conversation. But when you sit at the same table as someone with opposing views and walk away as friends, that’s how you know you’re doing something right. Thank you for being here. I appreciate you.

Welcome Pastor Brent to this wondrous and awesome musical rabbit hole called Nightwish! You are received with open arms and great smiles! We love seeing people discover the mysteries of this group of phenomenal musicians! So... It seems this live performance is your first toe in the water... actually a cannonball into the deeper end of the pool LOL! Most start with "Ghost Love Score", feel free to take any twist or turn as you see fit! The journey will always be worth it! In fact the journey is everything, no real destination intended. Curiosity, imagination, storytelling, wonder and awe.... Those words can easily sum up Nightwish! That said Pastor Brent.... Perhaps your path in this rabbit hole, already starting with the longest epic song they have, you may choose songs others may not have. "The Carpenter", "Gethsemane", "Meadows of Heaven" , "Our Decades in the Sun", "Elan", "The Crow, the Owl and the Dove" (super sad but awesome fan video!), "Kiss, While your Lips Are Still Red"... These are less reacted to, but may be thematically more suited for you, maybe, I dunno. Keep your hands and feet inside the vehicle at all times, buckle up and enjoy the ride!

@bujin1977
@bujin1977 6 ай бұрын
@@lillianekockritz2796 Yeah, something like that. I always take the "bangs" at the start, and particularly the fireworks from the Tampere concert, to be the "late heavy bombardment" period shortly after the birth of the solar system, which occurred around the time of the Archaean geological period mentioned in the first words of the song. It's open to interpretation, of course. But I think the name of that section of the song of "Four Point Six" indicates that it's only referring to the birth of the solar system, not the entire universe.

Tuomas, our "Metal Mozart" (on keyboards), is a great storyteller, composing great music and writing poetic lyrics often with deep meaning. Therefore every song of Nightwish is an experience, some more, some less. And every member of the band is an outstanding artist, all playing for the song instead of showing off. No egos on stage. They all love what they are doing - and each other. I hope you will enjoy your ride on the Nightwish train; there are many treasures to discover.

This is one story, divided in to chapters: Chapter 1: 4,6. That's the age of the earth, 4,6 billion years. Chapter 2: Life. ow life was started on earth. Chapter 3: The toolmaker. The story of our ancestors, and us. Chapter 4: The Understanding: Dawkins reading from his book. Chapter 5: Sea worn driftwood: More Dawkins, now reading Darwin. The 4 chapters is a short description of evolution with some cleaver descriptions thrown in like "The tapestry of chemistry" for the periodic table and "The writing in the garden" about the 4 letter alphabet of DNA that's within everything living.

Hi pastor - great thoughtful reaction and and philosophy. Nightwish sing about all sorts of different topics and the song styles can be wildly different from each other (although still recognizably Nightwish) It will be a rewarding journey if you enjoyed this one. I'd suggest Ghost Love Score (about doomed love) or Storytime (about the excitement and wonder of stories we heard as children) next. I'd suggest checking out pretty much anything from the Wacken 2013 festival before branching out.

Thank you dear Pastor! I've seen so many Christians having the attitude of "if it's not Biblical it's worthless and wrong" that hearing you appreciate this completely secular song, really an evolutionist manifesto turned into a musical masterpiece is refreshing and it felt really good. I'm a musicologist but I used to work as a journalist for many years and people often took offense at the things that I wrote. My reaction was always: it's OK to disagree. In fact it's a good thing. If two people always agree on everything, one of them lives in vain. I think as a society we need to re-learn the difference between "adversary" and "enemy". With the adversary you talk, you argue, you try to convey your truth and also maybe learn something. The enemy has to be destroyed. Keep watching this band, no two songs are alike and yet all of them are undeniably Nightwish. Enjoy the journey, it's a great one!

Thank you for your words. The thing that a lot of Pastors miss... is that slapping someone with the Bible isn't going to change someone... nor is it going to open a dialogue. I've had a few people turn into brick walls and at that point, I can no longer converse with them. It's one sided and if even one side is set on proving the other wrong, there can't be clear communication. People are different... do I believe the Bible, yes. Do I expect an evolutionist to? Nope.. but if they are open to sharing their thoughts with me.. and open to me sharing my thoughts with them, the worst that can happen is we end up friends.

@@pastorbrentreacts The only other person I know who has this awesome attitude is my family physician. He's a Seventh Day Adventist, a staunch Literalist. I'm a Unitarian, a Deist, an old fashioned post-French Revolution rationalist, progressive Liberal. We can talk for hours upon hours about religion (amongst many other things, culture, politics, music, whatnot), and when it comes to religion we basically agree on only two things: 1. there is a God, 2. once there was a person called Jesus of Nazareth. And yet we talk endlessly, sharing our views, deeply respecting each other, none of us ever raised our voices, we're good friends and we're both looking forward to our next conversation.

You really dove into the deep end with this piece of their music as the first Nightwish song you heard. I had the same thing happen to me as this was the first Nightwish video I ever saw a few years ago. The music really hit me hard, and i have become a big fan.. Not all of their music directly explores evolutionary topics, but the last few albums have explored our poetry, music, our world, humanity, and nature. I got your comments about movie scores, and Tuomas, the keyboardist/composer/poet-lyricist, loves big movie scores and classical composers as well. He also composed a 30+ min multi-movement symphony piece for the last album. All the works of Nature that adorn the world. You may like that. Look for the fan created/Nightwish Music video for it. The title of the issue is taken from a 2009 book by evolutionary biologist and atheist writer Richard Dawkins, about the evidence for biological evolution. Dawkins also contributes to the album. Holopainen explained to HMV in March 2015: "I wrote him a letter a little over a year ago and explained what ideas we had for this album, mainly about evolution. Since one of the songs goes straight to one of his books, it felt like a perfect match to try and recite him on the album. A few weeks later, he sent me an email accepting the invitation." "Later in 2014, we recorded his parts at Hats Off Studios, Oxford. This is a huge honour for us, as Dawkins is one of our greatest heroes and his writings have been a huge inspiration for the album."

As you mentioned the movie Interstellar - there actually is a song out there inspired by this movie called Lost Children of the Universe, performed by Star One, a project of Arjen Lucassen. Arjen and Tuomas Holopainen are often referred to as being the best modern day composers. So maybe you want to have a look at them as well. Floor Jansen has often worked with Arjen, esp. on his main project Ayreon. I'd like you to check The Day that the World breaks down (off. vid.) or Everybody Dies (from the Universe live show). That's another deep rabbit hole to dive into.

It's ok to have different beliefs! But in the end it always comes down to the evidence there is to support one belief or another. Some people believe that the Earth is flat with no evidence to support their belief and with lots of evidence for a spherical Earth that circles around the sun. Are those beliefs equally valid then? I'd argue that they are not. Going where the evidence is leading us has enabled humankind to progress very quickly within the last 200 years, so I'm a fan of the scientific method 😉

Even as a spiritual person , and one who's not really that skilled in science, Richard Dawkins is one of my favorite scientific people, and I am in awe of just how smart one has to be to actually understand a pretty complicated scientific work, and be inspired to write a whole album off of it. You should definitely watch Perfume of the Timeless. There's no live yet because it recently hit, but it's off of the third chapter of the 3 recent albums, that is going to be out in September, Yesterwynde. Otherwise, I would probably stick with lives, unless it's something with Anette Olzon singing. She's not bad or anything, simply a more jazzy/poppy voice that seems to come through on studio a little better for most people. The pinnacle of her with Nightwish would probably be Amaranthe, Meadows of Heaven and Sahara. I like her cause hers are the ones I can sing, but Tuomas don't eve pick a bad vocalist. Those instruments are recorded live in the studio btw. London Symphony Orchestra. 😁

The "greatest show on Earth" is the ongoing spectacle of life, as it changes and evolves into "endless forms most beautiful". The "newborns" gathering around a fire are the planets, Earth being the one that wanders in the "Goldilocks zone". "Enter LUCA" is a reference to the "Last Universal Common Ancestor", the ancient organism from which all current life is descended. Darwin was religious, and his take on evolution was that it was clearly the way that God went about creating the vast diversity of life on Earth: "There is grandeur in this view of life." If epic and cinematic is your thing, "Ghost Love Score" (live at Wacken) is absolutely the next song you want to listen to. Space music? We got that too: "Shoemaker" is an ode to Eugene Shoemaker, a NASA astrogeologist whose ashes rest on the Moon. (Go with the lyric video.)

I’m not against science. I just have a different understanding of how the universe came into existence. It’s hard to think of what had to come first… the brain or the heart? Can one function without the other? I don’t think a brain can turn into a heart. Nor can a heart turn into a brain. I know what evolution says and that’s cool and all.. but I find it interesting that science shows processes and patterns, and not necessarily where it came from. An explosion of rocks cannot form people. So I’m not against science, it has its place. I’m also not opposed to the idea that some things do evolve… look at covid strains. We are in agreement to most of that, we’re just in disagreement of where it started or in my case, who started it. It comes down to understanding. We don’t have to agree. I’m not here to force what I think. I welcome open dialogues here, so long as no name calling or tearing down happens. We can agree to disagree. :-) also, Anything that you’ve been through in your life shapes the things that you think and understand, psychology helps prove that.. culture shifts shape experiences… sociology proves that. Our experiences are very different and there’s nothing wrong with that. Science says that I breathe oxygen and that I have a certain blood type running through my veins. It’s that pattern that science is able to prove. Just like science can prove that the molecular components found in certain medications like NSAIDs can help with inflammation… But what about the stuff that science can’t prove? How do you explain that? I love intellectual conversation.

@@pastorbrentreacts This is why I advised you to use the captions next time. Floor gives the anwser in the song. "Enter the God of gaps, Deep within the past." For longer than we can imagine we have atributed the unknown to a godly pressence of any kind to explain what we could not. The gods and religions differ all over the world and all troughout history. It is a human interpertation of the world around us and as we discover more about our world and the universe, we can see where religion becomes obsolete. The gaps we put god into are getting smaller and smaller after all. Who knows what we can prove in the future.

@@pastorbrentreacts I usually dont do this, but now I have to. You noticed that this is about things evolving on earth. You did. Time stamp 26:46. But in the end you dont believe in evolution. You are smart enough to pick up that evolution in this video but you still are too religious, so you deny it in the end. Sad😮‍💨

The cool thing is, I appreciate your view. The other cool thing is that I’m human :-) which means that I have my own thoughts just like you do. And I’m able to form my perspective of the world just like you. At the end of the day, we’re both human beings and regardless of what we think, we can sit and enjoy the same kind of music :-)

Pastor as in 'indoctrinated by one single faith' or as in 'maybe others might have a grain of truth too'? Seriously, that is it first thing that springs to mind when I see a reaction on this song. Sceptic as I am.

Hey, that’s a fair thought process. Thank you for sharing. If you heard how I ended up here, I don’t think you would be calling it indoctrinated. I wasn’t always a Christian. Things I’ve been through have pushed me this way. And experiences shape the way people think and believe especially when someone has been on deaths door.

This song really is a masterpiece... No matter what you believe when it comes to Evolution. I don't claim to understand everything about "Evolution!" ...nor do I understand a lot of the "Old Testament" ...but that's okay. I know, where I grew up, there were places where I could go and unearth fossils of sea dwelling creatures... Mainly sea shells and ferns and other plants! I had probably 1000 lbs of fossils put around the tree in our backyard! It was a fun hobby!

Hey there. Old Testament is a beast. Occasionally I’ll teach from Old Testament to show this history of a topic or talk about creation (the biblical viewpoint). Science and evolution have a place but I don’t think that something comes from nothing. That’s where I land. If anyone lands on the side of evolution, I’d love to talk more. I can’t say that my mind or your mind would be changed but I definitely am open for a why do I believe the way I believe convo.

Hey Pastor Brent. I am not accusing you of doing a curated reaction (like omitting you have heard the song before). People can tell when that happens and the most subscribed reactors are honest (according to my intuition). Don't fall for the idea that everyone lies, so I have to do it too to make the battle field even. The truth will surface eventually. Living in truth is hard. About the song itself. I think it is about the deep time and what we can think of that. Life has been around billions of years before humans and might be here billions of years after humans. Life is divine. We did not create it, and it was around long before we were assigned to take care of it. And life will live long after we are gone. Jesus is talking about the kingdom of heaven. I think part of his message is about this. We are part of this creation for a short time of this time line. We can only understand it through truly understanding the relationship we have between Humans and God. It is not about following God's laws or following Jesus. It is about understanding God enough to understand and motivate you to do good. The creator of the universe doesnt care what religion we end up having as long as we understand it. Jesus is a teacher. If you hold on to a teacher like Jesus, white knuckled saying he is the only way to salvation, you will follow your thoughts about what is good, and you will do harm in the name of your dogma. Jesus was a man with great wisdom. Today we worship him instead of listen to him. Look up the Thomas Evangelium discovered in 1945 to understand Jesus more. It is in the end about love and not about religion. How can we find it without religion. How can we unite without religion? It is easy if we relax our soul and go silent and reflexive just for a minute.

You have just seen what you can achieve when you kick fake magic out of your life. As soons as you stop thinking there are gods and rely on yourself you start to achieve your potential. Only atheism can produce something like this. The man at the end is evolutionary biologist Richard Dawkins, and the whole show is based on the original work of Charles Darwin. The song is about the story of earth, from its condensation from the dust that surrounded the early sun to the existence of humanity, and the vital task that faces us of preserving what we have. It is a celebration of our achievements, heralded by the musical references to Bach and Metallica. You need to undrestand this. Watch again with subtitles on.

A new record I think for this song when it comes to the number of *pointless* pauses to ruin everything. Even pausing at least 3 times in the dang OUTRO, including SIR Richard Dawkins speech, what the heck man. As other have said, Nightwish isnt that full of themselves to write a song called this about THEIR own music...sigh.. It's about the creation of everything, the evolution. Evolution is a proven thing. The fairytale book with Noah, Abraham, Josef, Jesus, etc etc, is just that, *fairytales*. There's absolutely ZERO proof either of the *characters* in that book existed. It's a made up thing by someone long time ago. And it stuck around, because humans are at the end of the day, not capable of anything unless they have someone 'watching' them. Voila, let's pretend there's this being up in the sky watching us. The most epic scam in the history of humankind- religion. So successful they raised millions of buildings, aka churches, where the scammers can collect money, and avoiding to have to pay taxes. Talk about an epic scam. Why would this God need money? Isn't he all-knowing, and whatnot? Long time ago, it was said he was up in the sky, probably sitting behind a cloud watching us. Fast-forward to today, we have airplanes and rockets flying thru the sky, you would think we would've crashed into this "God" fella by now eh? OR, could it be that we're simply the product of e v o l u t i o n. Where there's tons of actual facts and proof. That, versus a book with made up characters that no one has ever seen, and no one can prove they're NOT made up. I recommend the 3 little pigs, and possibly red riding hood, both are also very good fairytale stories. But we *know* those stories aren't true, because we can pinpoint who and when it was written. It baffles me how brainwashed religious people are. Why believe in something that no one can prove ever existed? Again, only proof is some fairytale? Found proof of Moses? Is there a divided sea he forgot to 'close' we can use as proof? No? oh, how strange, you would think something that epic of a skill would've stayed around for us to see as proof. Very suspicious how there's literally nothing to prove anything the religious nutcases claim. Yet they're pick up the pitchforks as soon as someone claims evolution is the true story behind why we are here. A 1 vs 1 fight. One has tons of proof, and more coming. The other one has...belief..? Well if I believe in Santa, does that make him exist suddenly? If there was a God, why do we have wars, famine, violence. Why are humans so quick to jump at each others' throats? Aren't humans made in likeness of God? If so, then God would put Saddam and Bin Laden and Hitler to shame. They existed for a period of time only. God is the one, if we are to believe the fairytales, the one that created us, he/she/it is the reason the world is going to h-ll. So...praise god, thank him for making us the worst creature on the planet? What about the other planet, what about the other galaxies...did he/she/it make that too? Oh we can't pray for anything. yet the brainwashed lunatics keeps praying to that entity in the sky. Yet never ever have a prayer been answered. So, if this God existed, why isnt there a single prayer that's been proven answered? Dont give the lame excuse that "god's will" blah blah, if it's his will to ignore prayers, then why the heck are these nutcases praying then? And even worse, most of it happens on sundays. Guess which day they wrote is his/her/it's day off? Sundays, the big prayer day, the day they pray to this made up entity, it's like talking to a wall or empty space. No one's there, the entity is not available right now, try again tomorrow. Try tomorrow, still no luck with the prayers. Then keep trying, day after day, month after month, year after year, til the day your life ends. And not a single prayer during your entire lifetime had been answered, and you wasted your life believing in fairytales. Meanwhile there are unborn ghosts that could've made a difference in the world, but you got their ticket to "Life" and wasted it on living in a fairytale, bringing nothing to the world, just falling in line with the other brainwashed lunatics. Evolution is real. God created everything, is dumber than a children's cartoon. There's the list Moses had, the 10..whatever. How come we humans check off that list every single minute, and yet nothing happens? Again...fairytale, that way too many countries force upon children at very young age, getting them brainwashed. The benefit of being an adult, I can make up my own mind, and look at the evidence. Looking at all the wars in history, the ugly things humans have done, how many good people were taken away from us way too soon, while the scumbags of the world keeps rockin'. Yeah...there's totallly a "God".
