It's probably also worth remembering that it says "if granted", if storytelling, and someone makes an insane wish that you don't feel up to running (or wish for some variation of "I win"), you have the option to just not grant it, or warn them to make a different wish, or that you'll only be granting tame wishes. Sucks for the wizard if their wish isn't granted, but it was their choice, and the warning is right there on the ability text. Better than you not enjoying storytelling.

Eh, the wizard is so random, I expect most experienced storytellers probably wont use it once the novelty wears off. It makes games go from puzzles to solve to random... who knows wtf is going on. Its like a much worse version of the amnesiac.

​@@robertg3260I respectfully disagree. The main difference is the shared agency between ST and the players. Experienced STs will probably learn to enjoy how to interact that way with the players they run games for. The most important thing is to use price and clue to allow town to reasonably get the solve mirroring some sort of global "amne day guess". Because if you don't give good players the tools to figure out what's going on that's when it becomes an unfun experience. If you manage to do that it becomes an interactive puzzle and as such has the highest potential of any character ever to make for memorable moments.

​@@robertg3260 Nah. People are just pushing it to the extreme because of the novelty. Once the novelty wears off, STs will be less inclined to grant extreme wishes, especially the 'more wishes' kind, and be more strict about costs and clues, and players will adjust accordingly. Remember that they have heavily playtested it over years(?)

I would have ran the wish like an al-had. Every night publicly announce 3 players who may get a wish if all of them choose to get one none of them gets any. Then publicly announce who get them. Town learns what's going on, and the gimmick is fun.

That was so good. JC deserves so much appreciation for doing stuff to make the game fun for other people rather than just play to win. Also "the player who has the least fun gets something good happen to them" should be a fabled or something.

I wish... Each night 3 players of ST's choice get a wish. A random player views the twitch chat. Each nomination targets a random player. Reminder tokens are moved to different (valid) players. Something good happens to the player who's most likely to not have fun this game. To gain an additional ability: "If I nominate an evil player, they are immediately executed." Swampert knows that I (JC) am the Wizard. To know if I've just killed a Demon. If a player is nominated, instead the nominee nominates the nominator. JC knows that I (Swampert) am the Amnesiac. To regain my Fisherman ability. Mia knows that I (Rhea) have a reminder token next to her that says "Lying for some reason but probably good." Not to make a wish. The Demon learns that I (Swampert) gained the Heretic's ability. [Credit to Mia] To become an Amnesiac.

Fantastic game. I really enjoyed the fact there wasn't arbitrary "you lose" conditions applied to the wish for no reason, it made the game much more fun to watch. JC MVP too, for both teams. He's got a good ST personality, even as a player. But seriously, mali/benevolent maximus, there. These games have me thinking, the Wizard is like an anti-Marionette. It's a super feels-good roll, the opposite of marionette there, but like marionette, it might be best used on a script as a threat to be bandied about by the evil team, but not actually in-game. Like a script with a Wizard not in play, but a Plague Doctor threatening to give the ability to the STs to help evil, or a Hatter needing to stay alive to stop it from entering, with Fang Gus who could cancel it coming into play needing to pick carefully, or Godfathers needing to hunt them down.

Loved this. It felt like the right kind of silly for a silly game. Kudos to both the storytellers and also the players for keeping this mostly on track to still be fun for potentially everyone. The wishes being one day only and a good mix of silly but at times also mechanically relevant still made this feel mostly playable and solvable. I've seen a fair amount of Wizard games now, and at times it feels like they evolve into an inside joke for the wizard, the storyteller and viewers but less fun for the other players, so I expected the worst but was positively surprised. Especially enjoyed that eventually we just had "private night greetings" be a thing people spend their wishes on.

Well *now* I regret that wish! When I made it I didn't fully appreciate how many wishes I was going to get, so I thought I'd just do some low-level trolling of the STs. In hindsight it stands out a bit compared to all the others though.

In DnD the wish spell is a level 9 spell. JC added metamagic to the spell without cost. Metamagic: Maximize. Edit: the chaos it gave was the best.

That... may be the most convoluted mess XD well done players and STs. Loved that JC's wish was intended to be a (relatively) balanced thing, with only getting one wish. Basically had to wish to tell the amne to stop to stop getting wishes XD. I think I mighta been tempted toward the end to just wish for a moratorium of wishes as my wish XD. Just to have some semblance of sanity.

Arguably gone so far as to not be a clocktower game anymore ( I know this is some people's fear with wizard), but a hilarious evening of chaos and it seemed like players were mostly jovial and having a good time. I appreciated that JC wished to improve someone's game knowing how rough this could have been for some roles waiting with no interaction, also other small wishes which were essentially making the ST be private postmen for whispers. ❤ to Arif and Hobbe

Arif, I'm pretty sure the song you started singing at the start, For the First Time in Forever, is a song from the movie Frozen... Edit: Also, unless this has changed since the release streams for the Wizard, a new instance of the Wizard gets a new wish... One of the first Wizard games, one of the minions was a pit hag(played by Ben Burns if I remember that game correctly), and he kept changing the minions around to get new wizards for new wizard wishes. Something about the way it worked was that once the wish was made, the ability was used, and then a new instance of the Wizard was a new instance of the ability... Although I suppose as the storyteller you can run the Wizard however you want to. This main wizard wish is now one of my favorites. The first one being from the release stream, being that all players have the barber ability, giving the demon the ability to swap players every time someone died.

@@TMOMFXD nope, whilst the Recluse can register as a minion or demon, they don’t have the ability of that character. Otherwise you could have a Recluse choose a player to kill… … which gives me a fun idea

Btw I think this could help next time, if a droisoned player, who has a role that can confirm themself (nightwatchman etc.), chose themselves as the target of their ability, you could lie to them that their ability worked or possibly affected by vortox as long as they do not affect other players. So for example, you could "ask" the wish of the xaan-poisoned amnesiac but just ignore what they say.

Nope - the Ogre's character text specifies even if drunk or poisoned, so Philo drunking them has no mechanical effect (and can be ignored)
