Darren James Lockyer (born 24 March 1977 in Brisbane, Queensland) is an Australian rugby league television commentator and former player. An Australia international and Queensland State of Origin representative captain, Lockyer spent his entire professional career with Brisbane Broncos and is frequently hailed as one of the Greatest Players of all-time.

The guy was phenomenal in all aspects of the game, never more so than as Captain. I recall their grand final winning season and they were getting pasted by Canterbury in the prelim and through sheer force of will he led the fight back. Making tries, scoring them, it was simply awe inspiring.

He scored the series winning try for QLD. He kicked the drop goal to seal the grand final for Brisbane against Melbourne. Then he scored the winning try to seal the four nations for the Kangaroos. In his last home game with a broken jaw, the knowledge of it being sudden death football and the weight of the crowd and the opposition who know he’s gonna get the ball. He puts the field goal over to seal the match. How can he not be the GOAT???

My favourite player. I grew up watching Darren Lockyer. The greatest and best player the League has ever seen. His loyalty to the Broncos is also unmatched. He refused to go play for other teams, and played over 300 Games for The Bronos plus Origin and National. Idc what anyone says, his greatness is unmatched and he is the GOAT.

I HATE QLD in Origin like no other (hate only in the sporting sense of course) but if Darren Lockyer isn't Immortal material and one of the best players and nicest blokes to ever lace on a boot then I must be an exceptionally poor judge. What a champion he was. Unfortunately for me, he was responsible for beating us Blues on so many occasions almost singlehandedly at times. I'd give Ron Coote, Brett Kenny & Mal Meninga the next 3 spots then I'd definitely say Lockyer is next Immortal without any doubt. After that it's Cam. Smith and J.T - more bloody QLDers bugger it. I cannot say who is the best or least favourite as they all were massive icons of their day. I mean the king would absolutely smash Thurston yet he wouldn’t get a hand on Alfie haha Lockyer would have shown em all up after 80 minutes and Smith would have claimed all the assists :) Queensland are the masters of turning up in the critical moments that decide the game. These boys were naturals and knew when to step up. Might be a few years before we ever see this type of dominance again in football. :)

That last field goal he kicked, he had a broken jaw and still played on right? But then he missed the next game as he had to get surgery if I remember and the Broncos lost. But if Reece can slow his game down sometimes and also backup more from fullback, I reckon he could be really good.
