@K1productions Nah, it’s just far more visible due to the internet. In fact, contrary to popular belief, statistics show that we are living in the most non violent/progressive times in all of existence. The book Factfulness underlines this. Social media/internet is primarily the culprit.

There are a lot of heartbreaking moments in this film, but for me, “He killed them with their love,” crushes me every time.

For me it was "we each owe a death, there are no exceptions" which my grandfather taught me as a kid years before this movie was made, I'd told him that I hoped he would never die, and rather than let me live in a fantasy, he taught me to appreciate what I have while I have it... I still wish he was alive today. He was an exceptional man and I miss him every day.
@83gemm
@83gemm 2 жыл бұрын
@@toastymarket4089 I know that’s typically the line that gets people and it is beautiful. I worked with kids for ten years and, almost entirely, they are loving beings. You love them, they love you back and in a complete and trusting way we lose when we get older. What Wild Bill did would absolutely work and it’s a kind of evil, using the holy love of kids for their family to murder them both, that I can’t handle. John saying, “That’s the way it is every day. That’s the way it is all over the world,” just guts me.
@toastymarket4089
@toastymarket4089 2 жыл бұрын
@@83gemm Thankfully I live in a society where that hardly happens (that I can see) however whenever I do see it, that line reverberates in my skull. All we can do is be loving and aware that not everyone is... for whatever reason they may have. Intolerance has it's place (no one should put up with being walked all over) but seeing people use it as their first go to when they disagree with something is disheartening. Sorry if it seems like I'm lecturing, I try to teach my daughter well and it rubs off onto everything >

@@83gemm It guts me too, because the world just keeps getting uglier and since 2016 our country is getting uglier and going backwards, if certain people get there way. I am 76 years old and I don't even recognize it any more. I am nervous every time I go out of the house. I am scared for grown kids and my grandchildren who still, hopefully, have a lot of life left. I fear for 2 of them when they start school, one of them this fall. My other 2 are in Canada, so I don't worry about them. They don't have all these mass shootings going on there.

If this movie doesn't leave you in tears, you weren't paying attention. I hold this movie as one of the most perfect movies ever made. Every scene, every character, every line of dialogue, it all comes together into a perfect work of cinematic art, full of humor and horror and love and hate and sorrow that creates an overwhelming emotional experience that definitely leaves its mark on everybody who watches it. The acting was amazing. Michael Clarke Duncan's performance as John Coffey is easily one of the best performances in movie history. Even Doug Hutchison who played Percy Wetmore gave such a great performance making us hate that character as much as I've ever hated a character in any movie ever. Movies don't get any better than this.

8:27 - Mae West was indeed a very beautiful movie broadway/star of the 1920s and 1930s: Many of her movies were censored because they were deemed too raunchy, she was Liberal for her time and outspoken. Think of her as the sex symbol of that era (Like Marilin Monroe or Madona would be later on). So when old toot-toot says he wants her to sit on his face as a last rerquest, he's pretty much asking for an impossible thing to get as well as refering to a celebrity woman that all the guards there probably fantasized about before. 11:58 - A Hellraiser is someone that cause trouble, often violently (Who litterally "Raises Hell")

11:48 - "I can't imagine what he's going through"..... be glad you can't, Dasha. I've been where he has. While it wasn't brain cancer, I lost my first wife to cancer back in 2006. I know what it's like to be told "There's no hope" for the one you love more than anything. Rose was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer in 2003, and medical science gave us three more years together. But in the end, the cancer finally won. That was the event in my life that changed me more than anything else. Up until then, we had been inseparable. We had lived together, worked together, and basically did everything together. I wouldn't wish that kind of pain on anyone. Before she died, Rose had promised me that, when the time was right, she would send me someone so that I wouldn't be lonely for the rest of my life. She kept that promise. I now have a wonderful wife, who, like Rose, stuck with me through the bad times, as well as the good. Katina and I have recently celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary. The impact that Rose had on my life, affects me even 15 years after her passing. She was a wonderful woman, and she cared very deeply about my happiness, as I did hers. I know that, somewhere, she is still smiling down on me to this very day. The Green Mile is one of those movies that, no matter how long it is, is well worth viewing. You don't even realize that you were watching a movie for that long, it's so good. We are fortunate to live in a time where classics such as this are available to us.

"Yeah, you try it -- go on. You'd be on the bread lines before the week is out." One of the reasons Percy has as much leverage as he does is that this is during the Great Depression, so jobs -- especially well-paying jobs -- are scarce. Odds are that, if one of the guards was to be fired, they'd be unemployed for a long time and would need handouts from the "bread lines" in order to survive and support their families.

Not to mention that prison guard is not exactly a high tier job with many prerequisites. Nowadays you need to be half of a social worker and have the education for that, but in the 30's and in the U.S. where there never was a widespread idea of re-integration? No.

Another moving reaction from such a sweet girl. In spite of all the tears, I know you enjoyed it very much. Maybe treat yourself to a 'feelgood' next. Fyi, Mae West was a old time screen siren who specialised in risqué comedies. Rita Hayworth (the poster girl in 'Shawshank') was also an old time screen siren famous for her flamboyant dancing, although the one we see in the cell near the end Is 60s pinup Racquel Welch. And the old 'flicker' features tap-dancing legend Fred Astaire singing 'Cheek to Cheek'. I think the movie was 'Top Hat', from around the early 30s.

It's touchingly amusing how everyone seems embarrassed to cry for such a movie. I am a jaded, cynical 62-year old who has seen this beautiful film a dozen times and I bawl through it every time.

MAE WEST was a sexy comedic actress in th1930S, HER Catch phrase was "come up and see me sometime when I've got nothin' on but the radio " lol.

This is such a beautiful movie, but also very hard to get through. It is still one of my favorite movies ever. You were very brave to get through it and I'm happy that you watched it. I cry every time, so much meaning in the story. Thank you for reacting 🥰

I always took percey suggesting the cigar box as him being happy bc someone was afraid of him. Dale says "please don't hurt him", then Percy shows some humanity. Its short lived of course, but how I always interpreted it. Goes with the power trip personality

@@Sentinel3D its possible, but feel like that would be a scene they'd include (percent trying to steal the cigar box). The whole movie is a lesson on mental health, so I just look st it from that perspective

The black and white movie in the movie is called Top Hat. Made in 1935 starring Fred Astaire, Ginger Rogers, Edward Everett Horton and Helen Broderick.

The black/white movie clip both at the beginning and later in the film is of Fed Astaire and Ginger Rogers singing and dancing to the song “Cheek To Cheek”. The film is ‘TOP HAT’ (1935). Excellent film… worth reacting to.

The thing I recall hearing about Mae West is that during World War 2 allied Sailors nicknamed their life jackets a Mae West. One of her memorable catchphrases is 'Come up and see me sometime'.

You're so adorable when you laugh, it's a nice change with all the crying too, I feel like you've had your share of crying in all the reactions you've done! Definitely one of my favorite movies even if I always cry at the end. I guess when you watch Tom Hanks movies one after the other it's hard to not think of the other characters, was so cool of you to think of Lieutenant Dan, and the two have done other movies together too. Even that other guy with a family, he was the sniper in Saving Private Ryan. Thanks for reacting to this :)

Dasha, you enjoy Tom Hanks films so much, I would like to recommend "A League of Their Own". It is much more light-hearted than the other Hanks films you have seen, but still heart-warming.

If you noticed, when Percy was given the flies vs spitting out the flies, so much more went into him and less came out. It was almost an equilibrium moment, he took the evil out of Percy and made him just a living being.
