I've kept green neons alot and so I can tell they absolutely love that tank. Thank you for giving them the sort of tank they prefer.
@MDFishTanks2 ай бұрын
Yeah definitely. It's the most I've ever seen of them in any tank. That includes the one I set up in fish shop. It's been days since I set this up and they are still in the front schooling. They love it!
@wirtification2 ай бұрын
I don't have green neons yet, they are by far my most favorite! I'm planning on another, bigger aquarium and showcasing them. I do love the cadinals and other neons as well, so maybe a bit of a natural darkwater build with them as well, not too dark but definitely a naturalistic tank they'llfeel comfortable in. ❤ I'm glad you haven't given up on them in your tanks, I know you've had these for a while and I adore them. ❤🎉😅

this is one of my favourite tanks. I also normally "dislike" neon tetras because they are so commonly used and I am sick of it but this time seeing them alone in a natural looking habitat, I even want them for myself for the first time
@ashamane2 ай бұрын
I feel you on the tetras. I'd never owned them before. Unfortunately my first go with them was a disaster; I learned a lot and gave them back to the local fish store, though. (Bettas and a peaceful school is definitely something that has to be done in the right order to have a 50/50 chance of success. Betta first is a near 0% >.

Beautiful build. I would have popped 3 to 5 tiny sprigs of something like 53b in there just to mimic the natural river shot you overlaid? That backlight that you added is something I have done in the past to great effect... mine had multiple colour options - so I could have the backlight red, blue, green, purple, pink, orange, yellow; whatever I wanted... and when the main lights went out in the evening, I was just left with just that backlight, which looked epic. Green neons are indeed a beautiful fish: and when very young the colour is definitely more on the greenish side... they get more blueish as they get older? Certainty this type of setup really works well for this species of fish which can indeed be quite shy... Top job 👍

Lovely looking tank and I’m sure the little neons will feel right at home. Technically speaking, the green neon (Paracheirodon simulans) is a neon species that is mostly found in small streams and natural ponds with lots of plants (so you could have gone plant crazy). In nature, it is often found together with Ramirezis. It’s the Cardinals that are more at home in black waters with no or few plants. But as you said, in nature nothing is fixed and there is lots of variation.

I know you've said you see click-offs once you start the end glamour shots, but man if they aren'tmy fave part of the video :) I wonder if it's logistically feasible to live stream a tank 24/7 with productivity music. It's be pretty neat to have a "fish tank" in the form of a monitor up on the wall that rotates every time you make a new build or wanna feature a different tank. Folks who don't want a relaxing scene up while working could mute it and just enjoy a fish tank with 0 work xD I'm sure ISPs would adore streaming 4k fish tanks to people though lol. Get that netflix tax haha

Duckweed is the glitter of aquarium world.. It just never goes avay completely
@ashamane2 ай бұрын
What's awful is it's a native problem for ponds where I live. You wanna see the true overpowering power of duck weed..... we had a massive excavator-dug pond out back that got totally taken over by it when I was a kid. That stuff is truly the cockroach or plants there is no killing it. I think in the end my parents used a banned chemical weed killer :| I personally dunno that I woulda put that near my water supply/home but I'd already moved out by that point so it's their choice to deal with the health consequences lol. But in the end it was the only thing that worked. (the koi, frogs and snakes all survived, but the duckweed didn't. Still it must be banned for a reason).

I had water lettuce, salvinia, and duckweed in my tank. The amount of duckweed had been increasing recently. Then I went on vacation for 3 weeks. When I got back, the lettuce and salvinia completely smothered out the duckweed. I don't think I have even one left. In my shrimp tank, last year, all the duckweed just died off over a few weeks and I needed to clean all that dead plant matter out. I replaced it with salvinia and that's thriving. I don't understand how people keep getting infested with duckweed. I've been trying for over a year to have some in my tanks, but it keeps dying off.

While I understand you're experienced in this but don't you think the fish in cycle with absolutely no biological filter apart from those 2 plants, is a bad idea? You've puit in a lot of dead leaves which will start rotting and create ammonia spike. Might've been better off if you had some cycled bio media to that filter of yours or atleast used a bigger filter.
@MDFishTanks2 ай бұрын
That's what water testing and water changes if needed are for
@gritzd50702 ай бұрын
@@MDFishTanks I agree but there's still some exposure to ammonia. Again, I love your videos but since you have a super large audience I just wish you would emphasize more on the cycling bit with actual clips. You can have so much media just cycling on the 30+ tanks, that you can just use some of them to kick start your new tanks.
@ultralord70272 ай бұрын
I'm not an expert by any means, as far as I know it's possible to "skip" the cycling you're talking about by monitoring the water parameters closely and changing part of the water (sometimes every day) if necessary. MD clearly has the time and knowledge to do so and if I'm not mistaken he explained in another video that this is his preferred method :)
@gritzd50702 ай бұрын
@@ultralord7027 Oh yes, definitely! No questions on MDs ability to fishkeep. The problem is the huge audience that he has, especially the new comers who will just follow his word but generally skip the 'testing'.
