The Green New Deal: Ann Pettifor and Grace Blakeley

Is social justice compatible with environmental responsibility? Economist Ann Pettifor, advisor on economic and environmental policy to both Jeremy Corbyn in the UK and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez in the US, argues in her latest book 'The Case for the Green New Deal' (Verso) that not only are they compatible, they are inseparable - the two key components in the struggle to transform society and survive ecological disaster.
She was in conversation with Grace Blakeley, economics commentator at the New Statesman and author of 'Stolen: How to Save the World from Financialisation'.

The Zero Carbon Britain report from Centre for Alternative Technology proposes a very reasonable set of responses for lowering Carbon emissions. And as Ann Pettifor states - by creating investable green projects - investing more in education and training - e.g. subsidising tuition fees for subjects relating to sustainable land use and farming, clean energy, transition, resilience planning and so forth - we know how to do it, however there is insufficient skill and investment, although many many wonderful green shoots from grass roots
