PizzaFlix you did it again…..another great movie from my childhood. Natalie Wood was so good in this movie and who doesn’t like Walter Brennan? Natalie Wood said in a interview that she nearly drowned in the bridge scene and feared water for the rest of her life. She never learned to swim because of her fear. It’s ironic that is exactly how she died…..allegedly.

Robert Wagner killed her echoing a film wher he killed a woman. Natalie filmed Brainstorm with Christopher Walken. All three of them were on a boat. Supposedly she walked into a room and saw walken and wagner having sex. Wagner, fearing she would talk killed her. I think she threatened to talk so they might both have plannned to off her. 😢

@@raymondwitter7650 yeah, that's what most likely happened. I also learned from a documentary on the subject that Wagner and Wood were heard having a heated argument that suddenly went silent. Oh, I know what movie to which you're referring, but I can't recall the title. Wagner pushes his pregnant girlfriend off a building to her death. Then later he begins dating her wealthy best friend, and almost does her in by attempting to push her off a cliff at her father's quarry ~ a real nail-biter!

I saw this beautiful film many years ago, but seeing it now has so much more impact. Contrast this world to the one we're living in now. This country was once such a wonderful place, full of wonderful people. I remember 4-H. It used to be everywhere up to the 1970s. But it came to be regarded as corny and unhip and the kids turned into dope-smoking punks. Now they're doing meth and fentanyl. When Natalie Wood's character was taking the 4-H pledge, I was tearing up, in these realizations of what we've lost.

4-H is still all over the place in rural areas, and even in cities; one of my neighbors raised a miniature pony as a 4-H project in a typical suburban yard, and my many country cousins all participated in 4-H. And our country is still a wonderful place...you just wouldn't know it if you spend too much time watching the news media (Motto: "If it bleeds, it leads"). Back then, the vast majority of the media largely portrayed happy endings-remember what a shock movies like "Bonnie and Clyde" were when they first came out?-but there were plenty of problems that matched or exceeded what we have today: deep rooted racism, sexism, and habitual addiction (smoking and alcoholism) as a cultural norm, for a few examples. It's just that if you weren't personally affected by them, you didn't hear about them-now you hear about *everything*

​@@barbaradace7952 yes what's crazy is that there were so many great people who died because of drugs nobody really talk about the problem and then as it got worse doctors figure it out how they could make money off of that addiction and they just kept pumping whatever star full of whatever medication that they wanted to keep them addicted to keep getting their Hollywood paycheck. There were a lot of shady doctors making money off of people that where in the spotlight raking it in. back then just like now morphine and heroin were super big problem. People were just more apt to keep it a secret for whoever they were getting their paycheck from that way their Golden goose wouldn't be the wiser that their big paychecks were divided off to doctors. Yes I guess maybe a lot of people don't realize 4-H is still quite a big deal in quite a few places. ✌️♥️🌎🌍🌏🌌🌠🫵🥰🥰 There are a lot of great young adults and children in our world. ♥️♥️♥️

I couldn't agree more. I believe we as American people are still good, honest and giving people. It manifests when there is a disaster of some sort. We pull together, we assist any way we can. If the "powers that be" would just but out of our personal affairs we could return to our former glory. I pray for that every day....

Back in 1977, I had the honor of meeting Natalie Wood. I told her that I named my 2 year old daughter after her. She cried then hugged me with a beautiful kiss on my cheek! She was such a beautiful lovely woman. I was very sad when she passed at such a young age. My daughter is going to be 48 years old in two months. I'll never forget meeting Natalie Wood. Her real name was Natasha Girden.

I have talked to so many over the years who said what I had thought. We liked her acting best as a child and right up to Splendor in the Grass. Those were her best years.

The same was true with Melissa Gilbert, who played Laura Ingalls for so many years on Little House on the Prairie. She was best as a child actress. When she’d finished puberty, something changed about her acting quality and naturalness. Still good, but much better talent as a child. I think Natalie Wood was still great at acting in her roles as an adult, but I do observe that she definitely had a natural talent as a child.

What a wonderful movie. This is the first time I've seen it. Makes me homesick for "the good old days" - when I was born and raised. Glad I'm not growing up today! We still have kind, decent, caring, courageous, independent people in the good old USA, but our wonderful country is experiencing "growing pains" and, like with all growth (including getting older) there is pain, and challenges - and choices and adjustments to be made, leddons to be learned,, and work to be done. Everyone looked out for each other. Family and manners were the norm. We had meals together, family worship. Even our TV programs were family friendly. Amazing when you look at these movies and how most children were well-behaved or at least had boundaries, society was different too, and how refreshing no profanity. These days most are spoiled with choice and the language used even at such a young age their overbearing confidence is so overwhelmingly overused. I’m 80 years old and 6 when this film was made. My daddy was a coal miner and his greatest fear was drowning down in the mine if a rush of water flooded the mine. To this day, I have a fear of deep, dirty water. Why, because a year before when I was 5yo, my two older brothers took me out in a canoe, tossed me out into the water to teach me how to swim. I screamed before I hit the water and sank down into the murky bottom of the manmade lake. I don’t remember much but I can recall the horror of drowning as my heart stopped. My daddy witnessed this whole event as my brother jumped in and pulled my body up to the surface and was able to resuscitate me. Two years later, when I was 7yo, my daddy was killed in a mining accident. That was 73 years ago and I’m terrified to be close to any deep water. If Natalie was as panicked as I get around deep water, I can understand how she was and how she had a panic attack and drowned when she tried to get back to shore and safety. Yes, the fear of drowning is a powerful emotion and she couldn’t escape from her demon , like I can’t from mine. RIP Natalie, as tears run down my cheeks.

If I remember correctly, I’ve seen him perform back in the day, as ballet is one of my passions, along with opera and any form of music. What will get the hair on my arms and neck to stand up is listening to a large full orchestra performing the William Tell Overture. Dang, now I’m hearing it in my head. Thank you for your kind words. Dear Robert, it saddens me to hear your story entwined with that of Natalie Wood. I understand you. When I was very little, my cousins pushed me into the deep water of a swimming pool, I could not swim and I could have drowned. I was saved, but I had fear of water and have never been able to jump or dive into water, although I eventually learnt to swim around 15 years after the incident. I have never been comfortable around water. It's a tragic story indeed, your father died so very young, how awful it must have been for you. Natalie must have died indeed in a panic attack, just too tragic. I'm so sorry.....

@@alipalification Thank you for your kind words. You bring up a valid point in my life and Natalie’s. You yourself carry that same panicked moment with you for the rest of your life. That moment is the instant you hit the water and go under. It’s called the fight or flight reflex your brain has that kicks in. Whether to fight or run in any given moment of panic. The instant I hit the water and began to sink, with every ounce of power I had I struggled to get back to the surface. Only to inhale water instead of air and went down for the second and last time. Since you unknowingly remember your fight or flight moment and are still bothered by it, it will be a part of you till the day you die. Natalie almost drowned in the scene where the bridge breaks, her moment never left her and it most likely killed her when she actually drowned. The brain is a powerful part of the human body, it can heal it or self destruct and kill it. Thank you again.

Yes, there really was a time when people came to the aid of those who had trouble.What a wonderful loving attitude, we have a hard cold unloving world without the feeling and actions of a good community. I guess, in some places it still exists but it is rather the exception than the rule. I cried at the end, it was so touching.

74 years later, some people are STILL denying science, especially in relation to the environment. The part when the dad sleeps through the sermon (the message that he, of all people, most needs to hear) is a perfect allegory for people these days who'd rather stay asleep than wake up and find out the reality that is affecting them.

I gave birth to a precious daughter, Dec 19, 1986. I named her Natalie Jeanne, after Natalie Wood, because I loved her so much ❤️ My heart was broken when Natalie died such a tragic death. I haven’t gotten over it yet 💕🙏🙏

Same here - and my granddaughter is named after Natalie Wood too. I loved her and I was pregnant with my daughter and it bothered me whe Natalie died. How can her RJ be so insensitive with her? I won't forgive him ever.
