As you know the website is closing. In january we have a 30 day challenge with all new material. PLEASE READ CAREFULLY: 1. if you want to join us on that challenge you MUST join the new email list which is on the homepage of spartanlifecoach.com. 2. if you want to benefit from the special discount before the challenge begins you MUST be on that new email list. "But Richie can I join the challenge without being on the new email list?" No. "But Richie by wifes second cousins pet hamster has died and I have to go to Tallahassee to tickle the undercarriage of a rare Pangolin whilst riding a unicycle dressed in Spiderman pyjamas, may I please have an extension of the offer that is just for me and me alone?" No.You may not. Milo Mccabe is an excellent standup comic who is taking the UK by storm at the moment with his character "Troy Hawke". He also has a degree in psychotherapy and has done some psychotherapeutic sessions with clients before choosing to become a stand up comic. Not as strange a decision as you might think as this interview reveals. Cheers! Richard

Most really successful comedians dealt with childhood trauma. Many talk freely and open about it and it becomes part of their act. Dave Chappell is one of my favorites. Recently, he's been accused of being anti trans (he's NOT) and there has been a campaign to get him canceled. America has lost its sense of humor and I think more than anything, this is a dangerous place to be. The ability to laugh at what we've been through and at ourselves is powerful. It is healing. Without humor life becomes much heavier than it really needs to be. Life is serious enough as it is! This modern day censorship where we are told to be PC all the time is costing us our sense of humor. Life is fuck#%^ funny and so are the people in it. Comedy and comedians just might be the last bastion of freedom left in this world. Seriously. I'm not laughing. *edited for spelling

Broadscale trauma. I'm from Belfast (moved to the Netherlands 99). With my own healing experiences and learnings I've come to the conclusion that that whole island is traumatised and passing it on from each generation to the next.

Fully agree Bev . My parents are from the North ,even though I was born and reared outside of NI i feel my parents and family never dealt with their trauma and projected it into me and my siblings growing up .Generational trauma .I'm taking measures to address it so I dont subconsciously do the same to my kids ..

This was so good. Milo was so open and generous with you, and with us. I especially enjoyed learning about the creation of his character, and how he views Troy saying things versus him saying things as Milo. I feel that playing a character gives us permission to say things we might not be able to say freely as ourselves. But it’s not actually a form of hiding. In fact, in her acting master class, Helen Mirren says, about playing a role, “You’re revealing yourself within a role. You’re revealing, you’re not hiding.” She also talks about how, through playing characters, we can reveal things that are ‘lurking’ in all of us. Makes me think about your fave Gospel of St Thomas quote, Richard. So yeah, lots of different dynamics going on. I look forward to finding videos of Milo playing Troy. And that’s another thing we can remember - we are playing when we act. Thanks again for the great interview, Richard and Milo.

The privately educated ego/attitude thing is 100% armour. In those circles, if you show weakness, you are ridiculed/dismissed/dead. I doubt that they believe they are the smartest, but they have to sound like they are. As Eddie Izzard said, he can spot privately educated people a mile off, due to a specific hardness that the kids are required to adopt.

Thank you, your interview just show me a part of my shadow - the neurotic one that feels that by saving others, I save the homeless child… I brought a home an elder lady that has been homeless for 9 years. I known her for 5 years and three days ago she asked me to stay at my house. I did welcome d her in my home and yesterday expressed an opinion about religion and her body language told me how unhappy she was… So true that one must have the softness, intuition and vulnerability and the toughness.. I just realized that I was trying to ‘save” the homeless child I I was. Thank you!

For me it's much easier to write out a longer set than a shorter one. I think it's because comedy is a coping response, so the trauma comes flooding out in the form of jokes. Whether it's appropriate or not. Somewhere in my head there's this belief that if I can keep everyone laughing we have better odds to survive.

Of the 2 Russells, always preferred Russell Kane to Russell Howard, yes they were similarn in certain ways, but Russell Kanes delivery was far superior than Russell Howards. @@raewynurwin4256 that's true but not applicable. The example was one of aspersion, that the speaker felt he could specify, denigrate and malign the sentiments, beliegs and motivations of people who saw tjings differently. Everything all ultimately means nothing, but that is not an argument for nihilism - boundaries of acceptable speech are defended by rationale, not taboo or "toxic agreeableness" - i think it's a shame he parades his prejudice with seeming pride - it's a bit wanker-ish tbh
