Robert Baratheon is very stupid. He showed mercy to everyone except the Targaryens. The Greyjoys rebelled again and thousands died, Robert is to blame for their deaths.

Well I would say he was scared of Robert. Balon didn’t rebel again until both Robert and Ned was dead. He rebelled in a time that everyone was rebelling. Starks, storm lands with renly and then Stanis and then dorne. Tywin actually gave Tyrion his job to bring dorne back into the fold. That’s why it’s called the war of the 5 kings. Besides if Robert did kill balon don’t forget his psycho brother purple lips euron grayjoy who’s ship’s name is the silence. Why is it called that, because he removed the tongues of everyone on the ship except for his bastard son. He senses fragmentation in the 7 kingdoms and he came back, took the sea stone chair and attacked and conquered the reach meaning their shield islands. This part isn’t in the show. So though their father seemed to be amiable, he gave birth to a bunch of cancers and they gave birth to cancers themselves(Theon). Only chance that would have been avoided Robert had to go Maegor Targaryen on them and execute the whole line. And notice the last name of that man Targaryen. The realm would refer to Robert as no different from the mad king. When lines get executed in westoros is when the last person died in battle or sickness. Maegor and aerys the mad king, Danny’s dad, are the only ones offing entire lines and even the mad king stopped at one. sir dantos(the guy who brought Sansa to little finger) because barriston selmy wanted that as his prize for saving him. So based on my reading of the books Robert would need to track all these guys down and kill them for future crimes against the state.

I love the Greyjoy Rebellion. Its just the Greyjoys being morons and attacking the Seven Kingdoms thinking they could take them all. You know King Bobby B was itching for a fight. A shame Quellon Greyjoy died, he seemed to be the only one with his head on straight

I need to say, t's crazy how not only was Balon not executed after this treason, but also how Balon managed to keep control over the Ironborn when he was responsible for the Ironborn being completely beaten, getting thousands of them killed by the Iron Throne, and get dozens if not hundreds of his noblemen killed.

Thank you for pronouncing Balon the proper way, after all there has to be a difference between Balon and Baelon. "A" doesn't always need to be pronounced like "ay" sometimes "ah" is correct.

Robert was too forgiving to his enemies. He pardoned most of his enemies after the rebellion and allowed Balon to keep his head and lordship after his failed uprising. Robert should have executed Balon and made young Theon lord of the Iron Islands. Then he could have appointed a mainlander regent to keep the Iron Islands under control. Lord Manderly might have been a good choice for regent. He’s from a seaport so he might be able to redirect the iron islands maritime economy towards trading and fishing and away from raiding. Manderly could promote lords who were pro better relations with the mainland and punish lords set on the old ways. And Manderly could be like a father to Theon so Theon would continue Manderly’s politicies when he came of age.
