Hi Adam - You sure brought memories of my childhood. I lived in Burbank at three different locations when I was in elementary and junior high. I used to walk to the Griffith Park stables during the summer and clean up after the horses for a free ride on a horse. I also remember walking by St. Joseph Hospital on Buena Vista Ave many times, where as you know, Walt passed away. I'm 74 now and enjoy your videos very much. Thank you.

Enjoyed reminiscing my childhood at the carousel and trains at Griffith Park, my home. My lifelong dreams of living near Disney Studios came full circle a few years ago. We used to go to the Greek Theater for concerts and the Griffith Park Observatory was our first date. The second date was Disneyland & my husband and I are still alive to enjoy it. We rode the miniature trains a few years back too. We tried living in the California desert and Upstate New York but always ended up coming back home. Now being near Griffith Patk & Walt Disney headquarters is where we shall stay. Thanks for these beautiful memories. ❤️🙏🏻🌈🌴🌳🌲

To answer Brickey's question about Opryland, No. It closed in 1997 (the year I was born) but some of its rides were relocated to different parks across the country if not the world. Where I'm from, Washington, we have the Shoot-The-Chute from Opryland called Old Mill Scream at my home park, Wild Waves. The ride's name got changed to Lumberjack Falls. What a fantastic vlog giving great detail and context about how Walt drew inspiration for Disneyland.

Adam, sometime when your in Ely, NV, the Nevada Northern RR has full size trains running including steam. And its true, if you sit up in the front behind the engine, you can feel and smell the cinders falling all around you. Another mostly volunteer run RR with a full size workshop. Once we were riding the train, you go by the local girls emporium/bar, etc., and some of the girls were out back grilling hamburgers and waved as we went by. After all, this is Nevada 200+ miles or so, north of Vegas. On US route 50, the loneliest road in America.

I’m a member of the San Francisco zoo, and they also had enclosures built during the early 20th century that are too small now. They are working on bigger and more appropriate enclosures for the animals, but some of the old ones are still occupied. But they let the animals use several adjoining ones so they have more space. It’s a matter of financing. I must have been to the Griffith park zoo at one time but I would have been a baby. I know I’ve been to travel town with the cars and trains. Dad and Grandpa were into those!

I've been loving Griffith Park and everything surrounding it and the Disneyland history ever since I learned about it (which was not all that long ago and I did learn of it from u Adam, kinda pitiful I know but I live in NV) and I adore any content u put out that references these locations and Disney history of any kind. My Dad was a railroad conductor for Union Pacific for somewhere around 50 years and I remember visiting him at work when I was little and watching him jump on and off moving trains switching the cars out and stuff and it absolutely terrified me. I kept telling my mom I didn't want my Dad to die and I remember it being very traumatic so I totally know what u mean about the size being so intimidating and they are louder than u could imagine as well. This is why my Dad is now almost completely deaf and has to wear hearing aids lol. Fun fact, most older men that worked for the railroad tend to be pretty hard of hearing 😅 😂

In case someone hasn’t said so (but probably has) the choice was made to clean up and convert the old zoo into something they could leave as a point of interest. I’m surprised so much is locked up, honestly. Anyway, it was deliberate. Just another cool thing to see, though last time I was there, LA had overflowed into the place and it was an absolute mess. Somehow, I totally missed the Disney Barn and trains...got to go back someday and see all of that, trains are great stuff ! Margaret Kerry volunteered at the Disney Barn for years up until recently when she got married and moved to Florida. She was the model for Tinker Bell for Disney and she also played in two episodes of The Andy Griffith Show, one of winch was "Bess Hugins" in The Christmas Story episode. When you were filming some of the merchandise I saw a copy of her book "Tinker Bell Talks" as you panned some of the book for sale. It is her autobiography. Enjoyed this video very much. Nice. Of COURSE Carolwood, haha. As a local I make it a point nowadays to stop by and ride at least one of the Griffith Park trains at least once a month because it's awesome and it's all just right there. They sell old timey bottled soda at the Travel Town gift shop. Fun fact, that merry go round is also featured in the opening scene of one of my favorite action films of all time, FACE/OFF, 1997. And for" How I Met Your Mother" fans, that merry go round area also served as "Central Park" when Robin Scherbatsky was famously digging up the grounds looking for her special locket. Also, if you're still in the area Adam, not sure if you've ever covered it but the free trolleys that go around nearby Americana at Brand in Glendale, as well as the Grove/Farmers Market shopping area jn L.A. were both designed by the " last imagineer hired by Disney" George McGinnis. Worth a visit or 5 if you've never gone. Cheers. :)

Great info . I did not realize it was in Face Off
@NadaSurferTube2 жыл бұрын
@@TheDailyWoo Updated correction, an addendum for posterity, if you will, I just couldn't rest til I got the definitive answer on this because yes it matters, haha. The FACE/OFF script originally describes the opening scene as specifically taking place at the "Griffith Park Carousel, daytime," but a cast member himself was wonderfully kind enough to clarify for me yesterday that instead of filming at Griffith Park as listed, the opening merry go round scene was actually shot in the grass right outside of Dodger Stadium, with a temporary carousel set up for all of it! It was all shot over a period of two days, starting on Halloween day in the fall of '96. Maybe not as cool a fact as when I mistakenly thought the FACE/OFF carousel was the very same one that inspired Disney, but I can finally put this one to bed, lol---Moving on! :)
