The Grippiest DIY Non Slip Boat Deck For Under £500 | Using Epoxy Paint And Sand | Episode 42

This is Episode 42 of our adventure.
After days of prep Hugh can finally start work on the top coats for our non slip deck. He spends time masking it with beautiful rounds and corners and then applies an epoxy paint and a thick layer of sand. 24hrs later he was able to blow away the sand and paint another 3 coats before applying a lacquer to seal and protect it.
We are a family of five with plans for an epic adventure, sailing around the world. We have bought a boat we have to gut it, rebuild it, sell all of our possessions and have the guts to cast off. Follow our adventures.

Hi Caroline, of course. 15m squared area approximately. Durepox Awlgrip Whisper Grey Base, 4 litres. £124 each (x2) Durepox High performance clear Laquer. 4 Litres £150* (x1) Durepox Hardner, 1 litre £70* each (x2) Durepox 910 reducer 1litre £24 each. (x2) Kiln dried sand. £6 a bag. (x4) Masking tape. £6.60 a roll (x4) *premium airfreight price. Same reducer and hardener for both the base grey and the lacquer. Due to the shortage of hardener in the UK I reduced the ratio to around 5/6:1 meaning I could stretch it to go further. (I took advise from marineware on this who said I could go as far as 7:1 without issue) As you can see we ended up paying £636. However we payed a premium for the hardener and lacquer as they had to be specially air freighted and the cost was passed on to us. I would also say that we could have got away with 1 litres of the lacquer. So if doing it again I would have bought less. I think the price would be roughly around £500. (Also I could have made 2 bags of sand stretch easily!) I hope that helps. Marineware in Southampton for everything except the sand.
