My sister used to work at Walmart and she said that the cakes would come in already made all they would have to do is just put the kid's name on it and a couple of toys on it and then sell it for like 40 bucks they probably do the same thing at Target and every other supermarket that you go to go buy a cake for your kid

Yeah, because, now 90 percent of their bakery items come premade, one because, there isn’t enough time, nor could they bake that much quantity right there at the store, bakers would be working around the clock non- stop. Not too many yrs after they were in business realized this was impossible, I’m guessing. The more of a problem was created during the pandemic where hardly nothing now is made in store bakeries, it all comes to Walmart premade and, then, frozen. Lol I am sure very little is done for the birthday cakes and other decorative cakes, aka/ it doesn’t shock me. Since, I learned yrs ago long before the pandemic that restaurants don’t even have a baker on sight, all those bake goods, especially when, it comes to chains and buffets they all get them frozen and, set them out on the buffet line and dessert table to thaw, that’s why the oder is foul and mushy and, has very much the smell and taste like play dough and, isn’t fit to eat. Aka/ restaurant owners even told me when, I was asking for a cake. You think how much, I no longer wanted to eat any desserts there after finding this out at a Pondarosa that was in my town. The taste is very nasty and off putting. Aka/ It resembles the taste and smell like play dough.

The cakes can only be as good as the employees hired to make them. Hiring people with little baking experience because they will work for lower wages can be a problem. JMO.

A lot of the cakes are mostly pre-made anymore and, come frozen. That includes the majority of store bakeries now. Mostly they now, just make birthday cakes. The reason is hardly no one even is hired to work in the store bakeries, another issue we can chalk up to the pandemic. The bad thing is you can tell when, those cakes are frozen and been left out to thaw, the taste and, smell like play dough! Something that, I learned yrs ago when, was at a Pondarosa restaurant and, the workers spilled the beans, they just have a supply in there freezer and, get them out as they need them and would just set them on the buffet and dessert table fully frozen and just let them slowly thaw out all day. The carrot cake and their strawberry cake is fully off putting especially. You are better off knowing how to make these 2 cakes yourself and making your own. Something, I can do both by scratch, and made plenty of that way, you can even use a box cake mix as a short cut and still make it better and fully loaded and it will taste much better and fresher than these bakeries and restaurants!

I begrudgingly tried Walmart after being disgusted by HEB too many times in a row. So glad I did bc they are hands down THE BEST cake decorator in town. The cake was surprisingly good too. Wish I had tried Walmart sooner, but I don't doubt most other locations are terrible which is what deterred me from trying them in the past in the first place. I'm just glad ours happens to be phenomenal

After high school, I got a job in a local supermarket(purchased by Safeway way after I quit) in the deli. I was eating baked goods in the bakery and a customer asked for writing on a cake. Told her no one was there right now, but she said it's fine you can do it. Well I started getting asked to do cake writing if I was closing the deli in the future lol

Mashed has an article on their website which ranks Kroger as the fourth worst grocery store bakery. And Kroger is buying Safeway, which has the best. Guess which way Safeway's quality is going to go 👎

For some reason, when I have ordered Walmart cakes, they are awful. The cake is dry and flavorless. The icing tastes like poison. However, it’s better when you buy it off the shelf in the store. Dairy Queen has the best ice cream cake.

Walmarts cake is frozen. They are dry and awful. No taste at all. It is always best to bake one yourself at home. A box of cake mix is $2. I do not understand the hype in grocery store cake. But I forget I live in America where almost everyone is lazy.

I prefer to make and decorate cakes myself. I will admit Sam's club cakes are good for a store cake. Festival Foods have pretty good cakes buy they are sloppily iced. The obvious icing ridges make my decorators soul cringe.

That not that’s! That’s life not everyone has the same life, everyone has a different life, people get busy and things get hetic! Not to say busy people don’t take the time to cook and bake! Have you learned to cook and bake yourself, rather than judge and expect things from others and, instead of depending on others to cook and bake for you, why not learn to do it for yourself rather than judge others and, there life situations? Aka/ you just sound like someone whose made at the world. And, you shouldn’t assume things of people that you don’t have no knowledge of everyone. Aka/ look at the word assume and learn what it means!
