In my mind, whenever a drummer in a band gets to do a drum solo, it should be something like this
@homesicknight6 ай бұрын
maaaaaan sameee, i hate messy and fast paced drum solos, this should be it
@brycewilson17416 ай бұрын
Horrible take. Drum solos are THE time for drummers to show their technical abilities. The solo shouldn’t be a never ending string of notes, but no drum solo is complete without some chops. The drum beat played here would fit perfectly in a song, not on its own.
@faultylinedup6 ай бұрын
I totally agree! There’s like a sliding scale. On one side is holding a solid groove down, on the other is chop city. And depending on the context a drummer finds themselves should play into where they exist on the scale. At a drum clinic or expo, drummers should feel free to go for extended, limit breaking chops and technical display and be more at home on that side of the scale as their audience are likely to be other drummers who will appreciate the technicality of the performance. However at a general show, presumably playing for/with a band, and there’s a space for a proper drum solo. Not just like a 16 bar jam, but like time set aside in the gig for an actual drum solo, I feel the drummer should be holding a clear and solid groove/pulse down, accompanied with flourishes of technical ability and chops because even a general audience is wowed and excited to see a drummer do some wild shit, but never to a point where the audience loses the groove. And look, the solo can transition and evolve to new grooves, feels and tempos, but I believe the focus should be to guide the audience to stay with you as the solo evolves so they can join you on the journey and not be lost in a mishmash of rudiments and patterns they will struggle to connect with. Again it’s a balancing act and highly depends on the audience/context a drummer finds themselves.
@commente6 ай бұрын
@@faultylinedup Wow, that's some great insight. The part about holding a clear and solid groove down is what I meant. You can find the same thing in rap, where on the one hand you can go into dizzingly complex "lyrical miracle" displays of viruosity, but once you master that you start appreciating things like restraint.

Nice, now we get the "Sewer Tunnel Groove" 🌑🥁🌑 Smelly but groovy 👃🥁👃 However, ⚠ beware Max⚠, you never know with these Digital Rats showing-up from 3:00 onward... 🐀🥁🐀 Have you had your rabies shot??? 💉🥁💉 If not, then be on the safe side and add a few diddles to your para-diddles, it is said that those extra diddles scare the rats away. 😁
