First of all, I want to thank everyone for the outstanding support and patience, both in waiting for this video to release, and then, in waiting for the issues to be resolved. For those that don't know, After uploading several tests and checking every segment (All of which are STILL showing as advertiser friendly on my end) I uploaded the full thing and after several hours, the video was demonetised, with my appeal, my outreach on twitter and various emails all being ignored. So I've had to make some changes and reupload, I spent nearly 6 months working on this video, so I hope you all understand the need for ads to run, regardless, I hope you enjoy and I HOPE there are no more issues, much love.

I worked on The Darkness II as a QA Tester for 2K Games, and seeing as how it's been a little over 12 years, hopefully I don't get in trouble for talking about this: 1:57:07 - "What even is that glitch and how does turning on VSync fix it?" High framerate messes with the game's collision / creates invisible collision. That's the best way I can describe it / how I remember the issue (we were expressly forbidden from using debug tools while working in publisher QA - at least at 2K at the time, anyway; not sure if things have changed). We did catch it and write it up, but it was kicked back as "Will Not Fix" since it was seen as a low priority bug that few gamers (at the time, anyway) would run into (especially since VSync fixed it).
@inasilentway98352 ай бұрын
Damn fine info.
@TheAsylumCat2 ай бұрын
Iirc Darksouls 1 had a similar issue where if the frame rate wasn't behaving, certain ladders could send you to the void if you decend too fast. I also want to say the original dead space also had similar issues, but I think it was solved by turning vsync off at the cost of how well Isaac controlled.
@gabby30362 ай бұрын
@@TheAsylumCatYeah, I have this vague memory of Mandaloregaming talking about this very issue in his review of the original Dead Space. I could be mistaken, but I feel like I distinctly remember him making allusions to having your game act like it was possessed or having it run like shit (or something like that) haha.
@DerpyPloo2 ай бұрын
@@TheAsylumCat Basically, physics calculations were tied to the framerate (among many other things that probably shouldn't be), so by turning on VSync you could somewhat avoid these issue, but then Isaac would control with horrible delay (and some other issues I believe). I don't want a remake, I want a damn sequel! The ending of Darkness 2 ended on the gnarliest of cliffhangers and I hope that DE is able to do the next one. Digital Extremes have come so far since this game and I know the 3rd one would be exceptional in their hands. And my headcanon for the skill tree vs hunting particularly evil hearts is that Jackie was new to the Darkness in the first game, the second game is him re-learning stuff he already knew and also coming up with new techniques himself. I personally will always prefer a skill tree over predetermined upgrades since I get to build Jackie how I want instead of how the developers intend. There should definitely be more Darkness vocal work in this imaginary sequel though.
@AshChiCupcak3 ай бұрын
A sequel would be nice too but I still would very much love to see a remake of the first one. There are so many parts that just got rushed over due to time constraints and the limitations of the game engines at the time, that I think could really be improved on if it was in the right hands. I love the original ones, but they are so hard to play now on newer devices and companies do little to preserve their games so remakes end up being the only way we keep these games playable in the future.
@myym792 ай бұрын
@@AshChiCupcakI honestly never played the second one because of how much I loved the aesthetic of The Darkness 1. I am constantly hoping for a remake of the first one that can keep the same grimy and oppressive feel. I would love for the 3rd hell act to receive more time and attention bc those settings in hell were visceral and expansive. They felt like a 3d version of zdzislaw beksinski’s paintings. 2:11:35 I felt like the most heartbreaking part of this scenario is what Jenny said there. Jackie is doing everything he can to convince Jenny of this threat and danger they are in, and Jenny feels like he’s relapsed into insanity. What do you do when you try to warn someone who thinks your acceptance is “progress”? Now, you can’t really blame Nurse Jenny, because in her shoes it is just insanity creeping back. That’s the harsh part of delusion: no matter what side of the delusion you’re on, you can’t blame the opposite. Jenny can’t blame Jackie for thinking she’s in danger, and Jackie can’t blame Jenny for thinking he’s delusional, and maybe even frantic. “You we’re doing so well” broke my heart when I finally played the sequel.

It came out as I was finally getting over my fear of dying in games, I had just beat silent Hill 3 and 4, and this and blood rayne became my favorite games with their much more action packed play styles. One of the first real games i got into stan wise(as in one of the first games i became a huge fan of) was The Darkness 2. It encapsulated an era of gaming that we offen times look at with either great disdain or a nostalgic love. When I was a kid it was one of those games you knew mom wouldn’t get for you. I played it once if I’m not mistaken. And it was amazing.

happy to see you got this back up! Only got half done with it and i've been waiting to finish it!

The Darkness is like a fever dream. I remember playing it, vividly, but I also have like no memory of it at the same time. I'm 90% positive I played it. Maybe.

What convenient timing. I hadn’t watched your vids in a bit but had just gone back and been binging them before bed every night and you just drop a new one!

Consider a patreon. I know alot of people would love to support so these demonetization are less impactful.

Yeah, certainly something to consider if the rules keep getting tighter, I hate feeling like I’m changing the intended artistic “intent” of the games creators by censoring their work so much.

Long video essays by this channel have been a blast every single darn time. It's a marvel how you can keep putting out great marvel after great marvel mate.

Oh wow I had no idea the darkness was canon to witchblade. I just recently watched the anime for the first time and after I a bit of research it’s not really connected to the comics besides the witchblade itself but I’m still happily surprised for the connection. I can’t really say I remember either darkness game pointing out its connection but with my limited knowledge the witchblade probably doesn’t exist in universe yet since the witchblade is both the dark and light half’s. If Jackie just had the darkness then it makes sense that at the end of the second game Jenny becoming the light half is what ends up making the witchblade in this timeline. I’m just spitballing since I haven’t read the comics but I’ve never been more happy to make a connection between to different medias I never thought were connected.

Wow someone really did his research on this particular property. Most impressive. This brought up so many memories of these 2 games. The graphic novels you mentioned, I read these comics all the time. Even the Batman, Wolverine, Hulk, Predator and Alien comic crossovers. I'm really started to watching your videos. Keep on the good work. 👍

Fantastic. As BS as it was what happened, glad it's back. Interesting thing I noticed with Jenny in Darkness 2. In the diner scene, she's got a white shirt with black stripes, in the hospital, it's black with white stripes. That was a nice touch.

I have to agree with ya on Godzilla minus one. It's a great movie, and it does a great job at showcasing what it's like having survivors guilt. On top of everything else, like the music, CGI, characters, cinematography and etc.

I fell asleep watching it the first time with my bro (tired as fuck), I'm gonna make it up to him by watching it in cinemas with him when it gets re released next month.

Dude, thank you for putting in the additional effort to get this back up. I thought the story in the first game was so beautiful and tragic and, even though the sequel had some issues, I enjoyed it too. Jackie, the Darkness, and the Darklings were such great characters, but Jenny is the reason I played through it over and over. After I’m finished watching this, I might just need to do a playthrough again.

Hi, i know its been some time since you uploaded this video, but I am in a dark place in my life right now. Anxiety creeps up on me every time I get home, but your video actually helps. I feel like I am not so alone. Also this is my childhood GEM of a game!!! You help me... thank you..

A fantastic tribute to two of my most loved 360 games back in the day! I still have that Darkness voice whenever I hear the name Jackie I say it in my head like the game everytime. Such a shame that we can't get more creative games and dark ones too. Stories that matter and have that human feel to them are lost in the dullness of live service now

I read your community post. I hope you're able to make your money. I don't even play the kinds of games that you review, but your voice is one that if I hear it I feel immediately happier and more at ease. I've had a rough life and that means a lot to me. It's still rough. But today I have a little extra money, so I'm just going to pay you directly. If anybody reading this has just $2 to give then that's the minimum to send a super thanks. Let's help out our boy. We all know that revenue for this stuff isn't great even without demonetization, and right now KZbin is milking money off his work without paying him his slice. There's enough of us here to make sure bro eats.

After playing it and beating the game I found that I love the series as a whole and the concept. Thank you for bringing this game into the spotlight!

Wait what?! Had I not rewatched this video, I would have missed this little tidbit and as a massive invader Zim fan, I don't know how I didn't recognize him. I immediately recognized him when he voiced the alien in Destroy All Humans. I love learning about other projects my favorite voice actors worked on.
