The banner is amazing, probably the best ability in the game if used right. I've gotten around 800+ healing on objectives like the Galencourt ships before. I've been using this class a lot lately (At least before the new crossbow dropped, I really like it), and honestly it is super fun.

I’d actually argue that the Guardian is very useful on Offense, not only since the large shield can help you move forward and not get pinned down by archers in a vantage point + cover your teammates while they carry petards, but also because the banner is a great way to help sustain a team’s momentum where there’s going to be a constant frontline like the bridges on Falmire or Lionspire.

Banner can act as a rally point for allies. Players see a banner and are attracted to the healing benefit so they are more likely to come to a designated area you placed the banner in. This is best done on the front lines where the fighting is so the push comes from attracting reinforcements by placing and defending a banner in the spot you want to push forward. Put a banner on the Falmire or Lionspire bridge and watch your guys gather to that spot and push together with the boosted numbers.

Coordination isn't that much of an issue in a competitive match. In pubs, you might need to trick your teammates into working with you, but in an actual match it's different. All my ratings, tier lists, and such are based on competitive gameplay.@@ythandlename

As a guardian spear main, I piss off SO many people. I'd say I'm very good with 1vXing and it all boils down to footwork with the spear. 2 people coming straight at you from the sides angling in towards you? Turn to the side then dodge opposite of their advance to split the middle of them then wreck shop. In their eyes, you just disappeared off the face of the earth for a second lol. Spear is super fun to play too.

I remember once my sword arm got chopped off, but I still had my shield, so I went around helping teammates stuck in 1v1s until I inevitably got killed. It was pretty cool, and I actually managed to land a proper kill on someone instead of just a takedown.

Guardian with one handed spear its a absolute mass of destruction if you are a good spear player

Because with the advantage of having much more life with the knight, a giant shield with 400 hp and you can give the special attack many times due to the knight's stamina base, if you have mastered it one handed spear, it can be a complete dominance in the match, not mention the tackle abbility, that you can with full stamine do, the tackle and the special attack together

It's worth specifying that heavy shields can bounce unblockables rather than just saying all projectiles, as all shields can soak a ballista bolt with survivable hit-through from the ballista doing more damage than the shield has hp. If you're blocking the unblockable will stagger you for a shorter period of time, and the unblockable can straight up bounce off the heavy shield on your back or while not blocking.

Do the larger shields actually slow you down? I never really felt the difference

They do

They slow that walking speed but not the sprint. All classes can sprint and move in similar speeds but strafing aka footwork is dodging attacks and landing your own into a enemy's vulnerable position. Biggest differences seen on Devastator/MaA being fast on foot despite swinging heavy equipment like a shield or big 2h but compared to Guardian, they can blitz through crowds and Guardian remains slow and almost stationary because they walk slow with their shields. If they have bad footwork, you're expected to counter or parry more with a shield instead of walking out of range and making your enemy reach yours.

The only class I can really play as, I'm over level 600 and I still don't know how to counter so every time I use any twohanded weapon it just flies out of my hands. Men at arms don't have enough health.
