Lily James plays free-spirited writer Juliet Ashton, who forms a life-changing bond with the delightful and eccentric Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, when she decides to write about the book club they formed during the occupation of Guernsey in WWII.
Directed by Mike Newell, the film also stars Michiel Huisman (Game of Thrones) Glen Powell (Everybody Wants Some, Hidden Figures), Matthew Goode (The Imitation Game, Downton Abbey), Jessica Brown Findlay (Victor Frankenstein, Downton Abbey) and Katherine Parkinson (The IT Crowd, The Boat That Rocked) with Tom Courtenay (45 Years, Doctor Zhivago) and Penelope Wilton (The BFG, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel).

I just watched this movie and I love it. This is the kind of movie that confirms that I’m living in the wrong generation. I mean, I should have born in my mom’s or my grandmother’s the generation. You know, where people valued things that was worthy, where people did not just throw things away and replace them but fix them. This generation is way too fast for me and I just turned 27, let’s just say that I’m an old soul in a young body.

I just saw the movie and loved it!! That restaurant scene with Mark actually was really2x good. That unexpected gesture from him was just heart wrenching.... and of course the rest of the movie was a cryfest.

I've just read the book. At first, I was a bit put-off because the book is written entirely in the form of letters, but after a few pages I was hooked, it's wonderful. It looks that the film will be a little bit different, but still I can't wait to see it.

I know many of you are sad and disappointed that the actual location of Guernsey wasn't used for the film, but it's just like what several people have been saying. The actual location may have been too modern to film in, and it costs a lot to build up sets reminiscent of post WWII England. But that doesn't mean the film itself is bad. It should still make for a great story, a wonderful cast, and a message of hope that rings true for all of us. At least give it a chance, even if it's not filmed in Guernsey....

This is excellent film.Trailer never does it justice and maybe that's good thing.From one side trailer might put off people from watching the film but on the other hand I was glad the film was in completely different light.It's actually great story,great life drama that shows bits from before during and after the war but it's all so well mixed together.I didn't have huge expectations going into the cinema but I left with so far my film of the year.It was that well constructed,full of emotion,story about life and coping after the war.Def not to be missed.

For those wondering why the film was not filmed in Guernsey it’s because Guernsey has changed a lot from the 1940s, and I would know as I live in Guernsey. It would be a lot more difficult (and more expensive) to fly or boat in equipment and props for the film compared to transporting them to somewhere in England.

A fabulous film. I have rewatched it recently - 4 times in fact. It is brilliantly cast and the gorgeous Lily James plays the part of Juliet to perfection. I am re-reading the book, too - there's a lovely thread of humour (often self-deprecatory) throughout in Juliet's letters.
