But even without Duncan and Gurney’s training, or even The BG weirding way, Most of the high nobles in dune are meant to be super humans after 10,000 years of selective breeding. Most are meant to be genius IQ or near genius IQ. Superb duellists. Super fast reflexes. Which is also what makes the Nar Baron such an aberration. Even the Beast Rabban who is considered an idiot isn’t that dumb. And despite being a hulking mass he’s meant to also be a brutal and fast duellist. Pump all the best fighters training into Paul, and he’s meant to be a walking death machine. Added on top is his Prescience.

@@elyastoohey6621 - That's really the point though. Duke Leto fully appreciated his son's tremendous potential even without knowing the truth about the Bene Gesserit's real objective. He made sure that Paul had the very best and brightest teachers. Thufir trained Paul as a mentat. Duncan and Gurney taught him about combat and warfare. Jessica had taught him many Bene Gesserit skills. He was only *15!* Duke Leto's plan was for Paul to be trained to (what he thought was) the maximum level of ability that a eugenically-bred Landsraad noble could possibly attain. Because he planned for Paul to be a *powerful* heir to the Dukedom and a major player in the politics of the Landsraad. Maybe even a potential candidate for the Golden Lion Throne. But this sets Paul apart from even most other nobles. Feyd spent plenty of time fighting in the arena. But the fights tended to be heavily rigged in his favor. Many other nobles seem to have been similarly slack. Exceptions include the daughters trained as Bene Gesserit. But even that didn't always work out. For example, Princess Irulan was a mediocre student in BG training, which was attributed to her pride as the Emperor's eldest daughter. So, while they were all beyond present day human ability, not all of them reached their full potential. But Paul was specifically trained to do so.

In all likelyhood the scenes were shot hours or even days apart. They usually shoot the scenes with child actors first so the child can go back to class ( they have private tutors ) Then they shoot the scenes that involve only adults. So its unlikely she even saw the scene. Her character was laughing at the guild leaders for thinking they could defy her brother, but the unintentionally hilarious scene makes it look like the actress is laughing at the bad acting. The whole series felt like they didnt have the budget or time to work on a scene , so if the actors didnt flub their lines they called it a wrap and moved on.

@@_Cato_ Its about "light sources" TV Lighting is basically studio lighting. where you see multiple lights but can't tell its source in a real setting or lights look too artificial. Movies or high budget shows, shoot "on location" to capture real sounds and lights in order to feel grounded. CGI has also added into creating an illusion of being shot on location at times.

As corny as the series was I loved it when it came out. We should remember this was 2000, 21 years ago. It basically capped the decade that gave us the X files, Hercules, The Highlander, and Xena. This was down right serious compared to what us 90's kids grew up with.

I loved this portrayal of the Spacing Guild. Their mannerisms and way of speaking give them a sense of otherness, and the attempt at refusing Paul show that they're used to being in a dominant position in Imperial politics.

David Lynch's film was plenty ambitious. But the ambition was for an artsy, pretentious, vacuous vision that didn't actually understand the literature it was based upon.

@@gilian2587 Good summary of the movie. One of the many problems is that Lynch didn't even know the book, hadn't read it before accepting the job. He thought at first the producers were asking him to do a movie called June! Dune is one of those books that really requires the filmmakers, especially the director, to know the source material intimately and to really understand all its nuances. Lynch is a good director but not for the epic movie that Dune should have been.
