hi there, quick precision for the solo mode : you still CAN complete the objectives even if the "numbers tokens" are placed on them. You just won't score them if both the 10 and 5 values are covered. So the "race" for them is more for the scoring aspect. You still have to complete them in order to calculate your final score, but you do not lose if they are covered before completion. cheers

Wow, great job explaining this game. I’ve really enjoyed the game solo and with a group. I agree that with a group it is a bit isolating, but it is fun to “check in” with each other at the end of every era. Also just rec’d the expansion that adds some more maps and variability, but even with the base game I feel it has good replay value.

Hi, One correction: when a goal card is fully blocked by the solo tiles you can still complete that card for 0 coin, so you don't lose in that case.

Thank you for the thorough tutorial. I already watched a couple reviews on this game, which got me very interested in this game, but learning how the rules work has been super helpful for making a final a decision.

Watching this video was the final push I needed to purchase this game. It works well with the kids and solo. I recently made all the components for playing solo magnetic so I can literally play it anywhere. Thank you and keep it up!

How did you do this?

Question. At 9:50 when you did your era 1 card you joined two cities. Should you not have taken the coins for connecting them then placed a city token on one of them? (edit) NVM

This is the second time I've watched one of your videos; the first was First Rat and was absolutely excellent! True, the game itself is so good, even I could have cobbled together something resembling a video, and it wouldn't have been a complete flop, but you know... credit when it's due, your First Rat video was fantastic! This time IMHO, the game was working against you, and you still produced a really super video! If the GameNight gang ever need to fill a space at their table, and have someone explain the rules, they couldn't do any better than have you join them! As for The Guild of Merchant Explorers, what a load of cr@p! 😂 I have nothing against solo games, own quite a few myself actually, but I hate - HATE - designers pretending a solo game is for more than one player; and that's exactly what this one does. There is virtually zero player interaction, as you pointed out, and absolutely no reason for any communications between players as they go about their separate ways playing around with all those fiddly cubes and tokens. At the very least, you'd think there would be consequences to a player placing a cube in a hex which had already been explored by someone else, but no, while it might have a village on player A's map, on Player B's the same hex is just "green and pleasant land". The solo mode (adding a solo mode to a solo game 😕) just has to be a wind up, there's absolutely no reason why a lone player couldn't grab a map, and start fiddling about with those annoying bits and pieces, until their patience wore out (about two minutes later) and the game gets chucked to one side. Why they stuck on that solo mode is a complete mystery. So, after such a glowing analysis of the game, I really and sincerely have to give you full marks for creating such a good video when you had such a lemon as the subject matter; indeed I think I'm gonna subscribe, though you'll probably want to show me the door after reading this! 😂
