I wonder given that Rakdos like Niv is ancient was he also aware at least vaguely of the deeds or powers of the Horned One?
@lucasriddle34319 ай бұрын
@@U1TR4F0RCE There's a big difference between 'ancient' and 'ancient, hyperintelligent, seeking out all the knowledge he can over tens of millenia'. Niv knew in advance about the multiverse, and he probably learnt about Bolas from those same extraplanar-originating sources. Rakdos has made no such efforts, he's been alternatively sleeping and partying for his ten-thousand-plus years of existence.

1:00:49 Using your idea for the Dimir's visual direction could be used to make some really fun where's waldo style card art. Like imagine a blue black card with mechanics that would work for a card about spying, but a name and art about a guildless crowd scene. But there's a Dimir agent in the crowd, no visual language of importance drawing your eye to them. Heck maybe a cycle of cards of guildless or low rank crowd shots with the same spy in different clothes in each. And they're different colors, but they're all about damage from within- either to your opponent or to yourself (a self sacrifice card that powers combos). The white, red, and green cards all feel off color in their effects.

I love how the three Guilds that feel the most active against Bolas are the ones made from his color shard.

I noticed that too! When it was first coming out, I would've placed money on the guilds following him being Dimir, Rakdos and Izzet tbh... but they 180'd us.

@@andrewfornes5320given niv-mizzet's previous... interactions with ravnicas other intelligent dragons in the past (he killed them all) it makes sense he would not want his guild following aome other dragon who just turned up. Rakdos would be similar I imagine, and the dimir are hard to make a read on because it's the dimir, they aren't allways obvious in what they're up to

Oh boy, I'm sure you are thrilled to look at the set on Ravnica that is explicitly NOT themed around the guilds. I haven't read the story yet but I am definitely going to because I'm seeing some divisive opinions on it. I know a lot of people aren't liking the set as a whole, but I like the mechanics and the general concept and vibe. What I can tell, without even reading the story is that we are seeing ravnica from a perspective we haven't really seen before, (on the cards at least) which is interesting and cool. Anyway, I like your videos. Good stuff. Keep it up. I can't wait to see what you think of murders at karlov manor.

Great video! I never realized this block had so many depictions of the Guildless as characters with agency or that the Persistent Petitioners weren't Azorius. ^^" I know the scope of these videos is already enormous, so I don't fault you for not mentioning them, but there are some cards that are unguilded while not belonging to the Guildless per se. Cards like Gate Colossus (RNA), Guardian of the Guildpact (DIS), Transguild Courier (DIS), Chamber Sentry (GRN) and maybe(?) Soul of Ravnica (M15). Most of these seem to be some form of magical construct facilitating the larger structure of Ravnica by supporting the guild system itself without serving any specific guild. They are probably there to provide some safety on neutral ground and ease inter-guild communication. They don't really benefit the Guildless (or even seem to interact with them), but I wanted to mention them here, because I always found them to be an intriguing part of Ravnica's social structure. I'm really excited for the next video! Can't wait to hear your takes on War of the Spark. :)

I think that the Orzhov is in an interesting spot actually. You mentioned that Kaya being the guildmaster is sort of a thematic issue for the guild, but that's what Teysa is there for. She is the corruption that Orzhov has always represented, patiently waiting until Kaya shows weakness or fatigue. Anyone who doesn't like Kaya's style of guild leadership can find a new patron in Teysa, helping to bring about another golden age for the guild.

His job for the Legion is just to be a Sketch artist, but his actual job is to hunt down any members of the legion who have committed crimes against the citizens and been swept under the rug. My problem with the approach GRN (and to a lesser degree RTR) takes to Ravnica is that trying to make it feel “real” makes it feel far less enticing as a setting to those of us really interested in fantasy - the more mundane you make it, the less distinctive and interesting it becomes relative to the real world. I miss things like the Azorius literally worshipping laws, the Boros cloned angels and incomprehensible hierarchy, the Dimir's status as the "guild that doesn't exist”, the humans with longer lifespans than in our world, the distinctly "urban" take on the afterlife, the Guildpact being a magical legal code that enforces itself, the Moroii and psychic vampires, the Cytoplasts, the Nephilim…you get the picture. Our two returns to the plane have been a constant routine of excising anything religious, mystical, spiritual, and "weird" from the setting in favor of emphasizing the guilds as "mundane" organizations, especially in a military sense. Ravnica isn't a place that should be "grounded" and "realistic", it should be this fantastical city world full of strange creatures and phenomena.

We're at the point mtg storyline wise that the Omenpaths are opening and the "God" is panicked because he knows that if one opens back to Ravnica then the Azorius Senate or even Niv Mizzet might come through and take him back for judgement
