Awesome lesson! The finger independence exercise looks like it's going to be a game changer. But, for some reason whenever I'm putting down my pinky and middle finger, I can't get the ring finger to be horizontal it just falls down. Is that a physical limitation of mine or would it be fixed with repetition?
@KoreyHicksGuitarАй бұрын
Yes, that will get fixed with repetition. Just don’t overdo it!
@vaibhavdighe344Ай бұрын
@KoreyHicksGuitar Yep, thanks!

Same here. You'd think it would be simpler but I can see it will take a while. I wonder if Vulcans have it easier?

Hello! This is a generous series truly. Im curious however of what would constitute a intermediate guitar player according to you. Im not exactly brand new to the guitar maybe a slightly advanced beginner, for instance I know the basic major and minor open chords, some 7th chords all above the 3rd fret, I can play the Barre F chord and I started mapping out the CAGED System through the fretboard, so the major scales and the barre chords. I must say that past the 12th fret those barre shape are painful to play and I wonder if they are necessary to learn on the lower frets, also triads Im starting to learn them. So all that to say I know some descent theory just not quite there yet when it comes to putting it the fretboard. Thank you! Elie
@KoreyHicksGuitarАй бұрын
Hi Elie - Intermediate would have a command of all major scales in all positions (12 keys and 7 patterns, which gives you all pentatonics and minor modes like Dorian and natural minor, FYI), fairly quick note recognition across the neck, basic improvisational capabilities, all 60 CAGED chords, triads on strings 1-3 and 2-4 in all inversions, basic 7th chord arpeggios in at least 2 positions, and at least a couple of different voicings of Major 7, Dom 7, minor 7, min7b5, diminished 7, dom 9 and 13 in all keys - and this all gives a person the ability to learn songs by ear/theory/fretboard knowledge in major keys and their associated modes. This video shows what I'm talking about here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bGi1gmOwiadrbqs Most would see this as way above intermediate - but I assure you it is not - the pro level takes this 10x in all genres. For example, all this info + sightreading in these skills is just your first semester at Berklee College of Music as a guitar major. Hope this helps!

Thank you very much! I'll get to work then! :)

Corey, I’m holding my acoustic and also my electric between my legs like a classical sitting player with the head stock up towards the left ear. What do you think of this?
@KoreyHicksGuitarАй бұрын
That is fine, and necessary for some individuals based on their body size and shape. Eventually, I will be asking all electric players to practice standing up only. I find that the normal seated position translates to a standing position easier/more naturally. You’re right arm picking position is actually in a completely different place. If you put the guitar in between your legs versus standing up where your right arm should be in a more neutral position rather than reaching over your body.
@jellyj8194Ай бұрын
Hi man really appreciate this. As someone that’s been playing for a few months I’m wondering if you have some kind of document or topic list with everything required to get to that intermediate level as a beginner so I can cross reference to identify gaps in knowledge?
@KoreyHicksGuitarАй бұрын
There’s an accompanying PDF and book that is over on my Patreon that goes along with the course. It will have all the practicing plans, notation, chord diagrams, tabs, standard notation, etc..

Should we be using an acoustic throughout the lessons?
@KoreyHicksGuitarАй бұрын
Either is fine! I will be using both in the lessons interchangeably, but I thought using acoustic on the first lesson would be more accessible.
@MuscleCarLoverАй бұрын
I'm in a unique situation, I have 3 candidates for guitar to use for these lessons. Which would you recommend out of a Stratocaster, Telecaster and a Mustang? The bridge on the Strat is decked and the first guitar acquired, Tele is traditional 3 saddle bridge, Mustang would mean less finger stretching as I have small hands
@KoreyHicksGuitarАй бұрын
@@MuscleCarLover the more comfortable you are the more likely you are to continue putting in the time, so I would probably suggest the Mustang. They are fantastic little guitars. I had one for a while and really dug it for its unique sound! If this wasn’t an issue. I would probably suggest the telecaster for its versatility, but in the end practice on what is comfortable and what inspires you to play!
@MuscleCarLoverАй бұрын
@@KoreyHicksGuitar Okay, thanks for the quick reply. I'll at least start on the Mustang
