Rory Gallagher was always much bigger in Europe than in the US ( go figure...) I feel blessed because I got the chance to see him in concert many times as early as the late 70's... His concerts were usually very very long, full of passion and energy with a few quiet moments whenever he grabbed an acoustic guitar... I could go on and on and on about what made him so special but he certainly was unique and very simple too... Keith Richards also held him in high regard and Rory was Keith’s number 1 choice to replace Mick Taylor in 1974, but they ended up going with Ronnie Wood. Rory’s melodic blues and clean tone he got out of his trashed Strat would have offered more continuity with Taylor’s style, and added even more vocal depth and lyrical writing skills to the Stones, but it was not to be.
