The Gulfstream G650ER Flight Deck and Takeoff -- Avalon 2015

Gulfstream brought their brand new G650ER to Avalon and put it on display for the entire week! I got a item ticked off my bucketlist and that was to get inside this $70million Corporate Jet! Unfortunately I don't have a video inside the main cabin but it was absolutely beautiful... This is definitely a Jet I want to fly!
Thanks to the Staff at Gulfstream for allowing me to have a look around their beautiful aircraft and thanks for bringing it to Avalon!

I took that plane from Austin, TX to Auckland, NZ nonstop. It was 15 hours of comfort and luxury. Best vacation ever!!

AD77 you're gonna also have to pay for any ADs that come out to make the aircraft airworthy unless you plane to live on the aircraft that'll just sit at the airport

The only Avalon airport I know of is on Catalina Island, 26 miles across the sea or so from Los Angeles/Long Beach harbors where 40% of ocean imports enter the USA. Is there another Avalon?

All it takes is $66.5 Million but you get a nice discount (5% or so from what I understand and free jet washes for life) if you buy 2 or more.

Is its V1 and V2 shorter then the new Falcon 8X or around the same?

I don't know often any case of both aircrafts operating out of the same runway in exact same conditions at the same weight, but the both should be reasonably close.. like within 5-10 knots close

dragonage200 Right, thanks for that. I'd personally go for the 8x if I had that kind of money, as its better suited to shorter runways, so I could fly to more airports on business for my global company.

Again, the figures are actually pretty similar.. The G650 actually has even shorter distances while the ER has slightly longer ones.. But the Gulfstreams are bigger, faster, [stronger ;)], basically they do everything the Falcon does and more

dragonage200 Fair enough again, if I had that kind of money via my global company to buy a business jet(s) to fly around the world I'd have to start nit picking to chose between the 650ER and the 8x, as the 8x has thanks the the tri engine layout the 8x has a slower approach speed of 106 knots (197 kph), but the 650ER uses Rolls Royce engines, and being British I'd want to support a British company. But the Aerion AS2 supersonic jet is quicker then the G650ER, and in business time is money, but for more space Boeing and Airbus have biz jet sectors to chose from. Be nice to have those kinds of problems.

can someone please explain why the engines change shape like that? what is the purpose?

They are the engine reversers, during taxi for most business jets they activate the reversers to cool the brakes. So they'll use the reversers on landing to help slow the aircraft down after touchdown.

klum03 there can be alot of reason to deploy reverse thrust during taxi.. according to G550 SOP, normally 1 engine will be on reverse to reduce wear on brakes as the engine still produces residual thrust on idle.. and only 1 reverser is selected because selecting both would also deploy the lift dumpers

funny thing is, single engine taxi is not allowed according to our technical pilot due to yaw movement that could adversely affect the nose gear or the entire landing gears, but question is, wouldn't having 1 engine on forward and 1 on reverse create even more yaw???
