The confrontation between Wayne and Marvin in the restaurant is one of the best scenes in any western. It and Jack Palance and Allen Ladd shootout in Shane are my favorites.

This was a very interesting video! I have often speculated that many of the firearms that appear in early westerns were old west originals.

Lee Marvin stole the show in this one. If interested watch Donovan's Reef and Comancheroes for other Wayne and Marvin movies.

"jeffsquires6620," "stole the show" with assist of Marvin's incomparable, lethal, gutter-trash sidekicks, Lee Van Cleef @ 5:17 - 5:23 and Strother Martin (extreme left) @ 5:24 - 5:31 wherein Wayne infamously directs his right boot direct to Martin's face before he can conclude his bushwhack draw. Also . . . . The working, steam railroad passing through the RKO Ranch's western street in Encino plus the wide open spaces of Thousand Oaks for Jimmy Stewart's target practice 'open up' the sometime 'claustrophobic look' of the soundstage settings of "The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance." . . . . . . 0:36 - 0:38 " . . . an underrated performance by Vera Miles [ ed. SO memorable from Ford's and Wayne's collaborative masterpiece, "The Searchers"]". Spot on; absolutely.

@@scvandy3129 John Wayne turned into a pussy in the end of this movie. The Searches is my favorite movie and my first son is named Ethan. However, Marvin's performance is the one that stands out in this movie.

I love this! As a kid when visiting a great-aunt I had access to some really old penny dreadful and dime novels about gunslingers, and bank robbers, and the law. The writing style of the day was just silly. This presenter must have had his script written in a similar style. Very original. Great video.

Silly must mean "authentic " for the era. Most contemporary writings are considered silly.

4:24 - 4:28 With the notation of the two rubber Winchester carbines and rubber clones for Marvin's two SAA's we should anticipate a lot of viewers of "Liberty Valance," interested in gun lore, will be freeze framing pertinent points in playback of the action to ascertain "is it LIVE or Memorex?", i.e., the real deal, Winchester 1892 SRCs or Colt SAAs? Half as old as the movie, FOX'S fondly recalled and appreciated 1993 - 94 western adventure series "The Adventures of Brisco County Jr.," NEVER ONCE, in 27 episodes, had star Bruce Campbell pull his Winchester out of its scabbard attached to his saddle. But its 'look' was SO OBVIOUS it was a rubber woodstock of a full carbine clone. One wonders if Warner Bros. Television was too cheap to fork over the weekly rental on a carbine, if the 'hero' is only going to use his six-gun, why not just purchase a Win. 1892 wood stock and position it firmly within he exposed end of the scabbard? NO ONE would be the wiser. "Thank you, 'Rock Island Auction Company.'"

4:29 - 4:33 Since 'time immemorial,' the pre-printed, STANDARD Advisement on right side of invoice: "USE BLANK AMMUNITION ONLY." Had the personnel -- crew and cast -- only followed that common sense edict on the "Rust" set in New Mexico the resulting, fatal disaster never would have occurred. And actor Alec Baldwin's name would not FOREVER be linked with carelessness and loss of human life.
