Luka had a few years of really good press and ample social media goodwill and praise, but ultimately what happened was what always happens -- the next-shiny-thing effect. After a few years the media and social media became bored and moved on to Ja, Ant, SGA, Haliburton... This is a pattern that keeps repeating itself and nobody is exempt from (bar the very unlikely scenario of winning a ring in just a few years after coming to attention as a superstar or potential superstar). On top of that, Luka's rep was hurt by failure to qualify for the 2023 playoffs. This left a lot of people disappointed, as well as butthurt that Dallas had committed the ultimate crime against humanity of... tanking two games. (No recognition was extended for the way it doggedly kept trying to win games and lose the pick against its own best interest until the very last two games when it no longer controlled its destiny, despite being a team bad enough to lose to Hornets that had no chance of doing anything in the playoffs.) This caused numerous people to henceforth treat the Mavs as an afterthought and tune them out, thus failing to notice and fully appreciate what an insane 2023-24 regular season Luka had put together. That said, who gives a crap. We should care how other people estimate the Mavs or Luka why exactly? There are a ton of people who have a bad opinion of me too, and they're mainly my exes, and also in their case it's entirely justified, and I still sleep soundly so who cares. If our biggest problem in life is that somewhere there are people we've never met who don't appreciate Luka the proper amount then we don't have enough problems.
