Brain Leak as been a really good outlet for Sean and Ethan. Just a place they can shoot the shit and talk and do a million tangents to their hearts desires and not have to worry about what their core audiences think. There's no pressure to stay on topic because they're both adhd af and probably so is most of their audience so we naturally just vibe with it. Congrats on 1 year of Brain Leak and i hope we do get an episode where they both get drunk/high and talk about random shit together :)

As a very neurodivergent individual (much like most of us leakers), I absolutely LIVE for the spontaneity of the podcast. It never matters to me what the two of you are rambling about, or how many times in an episode either of you get carried away by other tangents, these videos are always a joy to listen to and I constantly look forward to the next one. It feels like being a part of a conversation with people whose brains operate just like mine, and I find that so comforting, and such an entertaining part of my week. But, at the end of the day, it’s about what YOU guys want this podcast to be, so no matter what direction you two decide to take it in, or what ideas you decide to experiment with, I will still be listening, and i’m positive so many of us will, too.

Self diagnosing autism as an adult is valid. For most people, it takes years and thousands of dollars to get an official diagnosis. It's even harder to get the diagnosis if you are AFAB because most autism studies were done to AMAB people.

Omg I have an orangutan story! A couple years ago, I went to the zoo with friends and my husband, and I got overheated and ended up passing out right in front of the orangutan exhibit. My husband told me that the orangutans gathered around the glass to look at me and he said they legitimately looked concerned. After I cooled down, I went back to the orangutans to see them again since I didn’t properly get to the last time and they seemed relieved that I was back (at least I thought they did lol) I could’ve been overthinking it but orangutans and all monkeys are so smart and wonderful! @Akitsunesceilingfan9 ай бұрын
Hey Seán, there’s nothing wrong with self-diagnosis! If you do your research and don’t use it to belittle or talk over others, then you’re good! ADHD and Autism have some overlap, so either of them could be the reason for your taste/smell/texture sensitivity.

I've been struggling lately, and we recently found out my mother with four pages of medical history that includes Hodgkin's Lymphoma has aggressive, invasive bladder cancer and needs to have her bladder removed, after having just had spinal surgery after her spine partially collapsed. We are incredibly close, and my heart is so wrecked lately. Your podcast has been getting me through the evenings to destress and try to distract myself from the train wreck that is life right now. I'm 36 but have been helping her out quite a bit while supporting my own family. Not asking for your sympathy, just want you guys to know how important you are to some of us here. @wiltingtea9 ай бұрын
Sean!! Do NOT worry about self diagnosis. Before I knew for sure I had autism i was so hesitant, it took years because I didn't want to encroach on "actually" disabled people. In America, official diagnosis' are expensive and can immediately take rights away, so for many self-diagnosis is the only option and it is completely valid. I should not have had to self diagnose, my parents, doctors, etc should have caught notice, but they don't. As long as you take it seriously, which you do because you are seriously considering it for yourself, even if it turns out you are not autistic (though it is very likely that you are thanks to a fair overlap between ADHD and Autism; Audhd), if it helps you understand yourself and support yourself better, then it is valid. I am autistic, self diagnosed because the official one hasn't happen yet, I definitely have food avoidance. I have always wanted to talk to you boys about autism since I've realized I am autistic. Don't shame yourself for potentially being autistic, all the best on your journey

Can't believe it's been a year! Have to say I do enjoy this immensely every week as someone whose brain is wired that way :) Also re: the food sensitivity thing - I'm autistic and ADHD so bit hard to parse out which is which but I definitely have that thing where some foods are just complete turnoffs. Also happens occasionally with safe food, particularly beef, where the texture will just Be Bad for like a week with no real warning.

I too have arfid. I wouldn't necessarily put self diagnosis in a bad category because if that helps you live your life better because you're pointed in the direction of helpful resources, that's all that matters. Autism is also technically a disorder (Autism Spectrum Disorder) but the pathologized and disordered verbiage in those diagnoses can be placed on anything that isn't "normal" Its not fucked up to try to figure yourself out. You got this Sean!

deciding to self-diagnose as autistic is not an assholey thing to do, as a person that has done so, the start of my autistic journey was being peer-diagnosed by someone that WAS professionally diagnosed, and since then ive done a lot of research and found a lot of people that are in a similar mental health boat as me and so dont be afraid to be like 'maybe im autistic im still trying to figure out what autistic means' cuz that was me for a long time and the journey has been very educational

23:08 "It's very telling that the thing we like most is not a regular podcast episode" Yeah, the podcast is basically something you're doing because you're not in the same place. If you were (one of you will need to cave in and move to where the other one is), then this would be basically a spiritual successor of Unus Annus (considering all the things you've already said you wanted to do). 27:17 "In the last 4 years, I've gone to LA probably like 25 or 30 times" That's also very telling, especially if there's nothing you need to be in Brighton for (but of course, if you want to be in Brighton, that's a different story).
