Most of us viewers don’t know what _KZbin as a job_ is like. Hopefully the _“But, but, you said…”_ mentality has gone away to be replaced by the empathy these two Lovely Lads have given to literal millions!!

I've been listening to Taylor's music since the first album, though I'm not one of the deranged fans people think of 😂To me, while her lyrics can sometimes come across as cringe out of context, the feeling of her music is what resonates with me. She can put a lot of emotion into something simple. The second half of the album (songs 17-31) are far more poetic to me than the first half. I completely get why she's not for everyone, and I respect that. - The song 'Chloe or Sam or Sophia or Marcus' delves into being in a relationship with an addict and the guilt that can be associated with deciding to leave them. I don't know what that experience is like in my own personal life, but there's so much raw emotion in the song that I'm right there with her. - The song 'Peter' alludes to Peter Pan, singing to someone who you thought would come back to find you, only to realize you've grown and matured while they haven't, and it's time for you to move on. - The song 'Cassandra' references an ancient Greek priestess who was cursed to always foretell true events, but no one would ever believe her. Taylor uses that as a metaphor for her own life, where she's been criticized for some of the things she's said/done, but later on when it turns out she was right, people say nothing. So yeah, some of her lyrics can be off-putting or out of place, but there's a lot more to it than that.
@Floofy_fluff6 ай бұрын
Totally agree! Some of this album feels to me like she wrote it to be “cringe” and simple on purpose because she was venting and just wanted to get the emotions out. She’s obviously proven that she is capable of complex lyricism with folklore and evermore, and TTPD feels like a vent album to close that chapter of her life. It’s not perfect but neither is she, which is conveyed through the songs itself

My husband died last year, I'm working part time and fighting for Disability due to a slew of medical conditions, my tax return is delayed because of the extra paperwork since my husband died so I'm flat broke and in danger of having my electricity shut off, and I have ZERO negative feelings about Sèan being ready for a change and expressing how doing KZbin affects him. Burnout is a real thing, regardless of what job you're doing. Especially if you let it take over too much of your life, even if you love it. Having to answer to a corporation that doesn't always have clear and consistent rules and policies, and having very little recourse when being arbitrarily punished by said corporation for an infraction that isn't clearly explained or that others are doing but not getting punished for must be extremely frustrating. KZbin is not always a fair taskmaster. It's okay to want to change up the direction you've been going if you feel it's not right for you anymore, too. And if he'd just up and quit without an explanation everyone would have been really upset and butthurt. People need to stop being dicks when it comes to creators talking about their burnout and the need for them to make changes in their life. I'd rather have Sèan step back and do what fulfills him than being miserable and churning out content he's not enthusiastic about having to produce.

In the discussion of the TS vs Hozier poetry discussion - they're both poetry but different kinds. To me, one is not better than the other. One may sound more "raw" (I'm having a hard time coming up with a better word?) and the other sounds more "flowy" (again, lack of a better word to describe it lol). They were originally going to take everything off the KZbin channel and put the previously free content behind the paywall too
@wolfiemuse6 ай бұрын
@@chicabear they weren’t going to take old content down, they were leaving that up from the beginning. They were going to do just the first episode from each season on YT and that’s it. Their YT would have become a huge advertisement for themselves, just with more steps. They have basically made out like bandits because: A: they’re going to continue getting significant YT revenue B: they are keeping their patreon C: they are keeping their streaming service. So they basically made out like absolute fucking bandits in this situation yet people applaud them for “making the right decision”. They didn’t make the right decision. The right decision is to scrap that entire idea. It’s not the paying for it that makes the streamer a problem, although that’s a big part of it. The problem with it is the streamer existing at all. It is a bad business idea and if they are struggling with money, the amount of money they’re going to have to pour into website maintenance, server space, card payment services, etc etc is going to be more trouble than it’s worth.

I’ll say this about the watcher thing as someone who watches them. They fed us eat the rich to us and expected us to pay instead of promoting their already existing Patreon. I also think it landed so poorly because of how manipulative it felt from the beginning moments. I also think that introducing the new Steven Lim show where he flies around to eat expensive foods. Honestly it pissed me off that they’re asking for my money to fly around and eat expensive foods. I think their apology was okay, the apology made me reconsider the hard stance decision but I was genuinely taken aback by their decision. Oh and the fact where they tried to cover up the fact that they were DEFINITELY taking the videos down. But truthfully I don’t think this was ever gonna fly with the audience they acquired.
@eevilauntie6 ай бұрын
Yeah, it seemed like they were really out of touch with their audience, so much so that it's almost kind of insulting. From what I've seen, and in my own opinion, people don't want bigger and fancier productions and aren't interested in whatever Steven Lim gets up to, they just want more of the core shows with Shane and Ryan. Personally my favourite is Puppet History, it strikes a good balance between a goofy homemade feel and high production values.

I stopped watching a lot of people who set up pay walls or complained about doing 'poor' things like drinking tap water or who just completely belittled or demanded a lot of their audience so it's nice to see that the main people I watch never let any privilege make them out of touch with reality. I'll be the first to admit that you guys can afford a lot more than I'll probably ever be able to but at least you can acknowledge that and not dismiss the shit I have to go through. I'm not gonna pretend I get you or anything for that. I just like that, as an audience, I never felt like your content was this industrial corporate thing.

33:15 I personally think their apology was more damage control than sincerity. I’m not sure they understand why it was such a big deal based on the apology. It seems like they just did what they thought would “fix” things.

Thank you. It certainly seems that way. How they proposed to "fix" things seemed more like a preconceived back up plan. It was something they could have always done, but they wanted to see if the way that would get them more money would work first. I loved Ryan and Shane, I still do, but this makes me feel differently about them. I've said before, I've watched them, supported them, followed them for nearly ten years. They didn't think about us for one second.

Who are they talking about?
@wolfiemuse6 ай бұрын
@@saulitix TLDR; two guys who started a mystery show on YT called Buzzfeed Unsolved like 14 years ago that was insanely popular and then like 4 years ago started their own channel/network thing called Watcher where they do a mystery show, a ghost hunting show, an info-tainment puppet show about history, etc.

As someone who likes both TS and Hozier, they’re both very capable lyricists who have proven that they are capable of complex, poetic lyrics imo. Hozier’s lyrics lean more “traditional” poetry whereas she has more contemporary influence. But that is not to say every song has to be lyrically complex like Sean said. Especially in TTPD where she says some pretty strange lines that aren’t deep at all, and I don’t think it’s supposed to be, because ultimately it’s a vent album, but there are more poetic songs in the second half of the album that showcases her skills better. Tbh you have to actually dig into Taylor’s discography to hear her lyrically complex songs because those are rarely popular outside of the community (cowboy like me and ivy for example) and her lyrical “fumbles” are typically what goes viral. And Hozier obviously debuted with lyrically rich songs. They’re both incredible lyricists and both are very inspirational from a writing standpoint.

Edgar Allen Poe poetry: Suddenly, I heard a tapping, as if someone gently rapping, rapping at my chamber door. Taylor Swift "poetry": You ate seven chocolate bars

I know this is a joke and as much as I hate to defend Taylor Swift… any song is considered poetry.

9:01 - 9:24 That was incredibly sweet! I can relate to Sean though. Be easy on yourself! Easier said than done x) I do feel bad though. I can’t relate to the whole KZbin algorithm thing because I’m not a big creator. I’m just a viewer. It must suck that it takes away some of your creativity and stuff. But some things that Sean has talked about, I can relate to. Like comparing myself to others, and being hard on myself.
