That, she will. And she always had been empty I think, even before Gilead. She yearned for a child, which is understandable - but has she ever had any friends? All I remember from the flashbacks of stories is that she was always shown with Fred and Fred alone, in their little world, secluded... and not that important to anyone, till she wrote her books. To the contrary, June had a husband, a daughter, a best friend, mum, work colleagues and then some, all loved by her and loving/liking her back.

June is ABSOLUTELY right! Love is putting someone else ahead of your own wants and needs being a parent is thinking about and doing what’s best for the child instead of what’s best for you. Serena is willing to to take Holly away from a place where she could grow up free to make her own choices and be treated like a human being and bring her back into a place where she has no say in anything and no right to even kno how to read a place where she has to literally shut up be pretty and only be seen as someone’s wife. One of the things that I love is how much physically smaller June is than almost everyone who opposes her. When she reality checks them, or yells at them, she always bares her teeth. Just that little fact makes some primal part of me remember that she’s at exact throat height with those people and that she’s gonna rip their throats out. The fact that when she’s done with them, they’re silent and shocked proves that she actually has done so, in a way.

It is true that Serena is delusional and incredibly selfish. But also remember she thinks she is above the law. She created this world and the laws but never thought that they would apply to her or her children. THIS is one of the biggest miscalculations she kept making throughout until her downfall in the finale of season 3. And every time she has paid for it: undermined her husband and got thrashed with a belt; wanted to allow Commander's Wives and daughters to read the Bible cost her her finger. The removal of Abraham Lincoln from the Lincoln Memorial is pretty symbolic to how the Sons of Jacob created Gilead and returned the country to slavery. Freedom was taken from men and women who opposed Gilead. Many men and women were killed, as well as people of different races, creeds, straight and LGBT people. It's proof that the freedoms people have enjoyed have been taken from them all because of a bunch of Christian extremists wanted the country and the world back to the days of the Bible. It's a show, I know. But some people say that this may happen if Mike Pence becomes president.

I think Serena desperately wants to be friends with June. Early-on she recognized June's intelligence, calling to her a "smart girl" several times. When she shows June the nursery and June uses that as an opportunity to ask to see Hannah, she later says to Fred, "I thought we Coyle at least be..." and then cuts herself, failing to finish the thought. I felt in that moment she was about to say that they could've been friends. After Serena's belting, when June goes to Serena's room to ask her if she can.do anything for her, I felt that Serena covered her mouth to stifle her tears which were earlier coming from a place of hurt but with June's concern, she desperately wanted to ask for her support but couldn't. As Fred said when she cut herself, even if she did hurt herself, she wouldn't admit it. I think that same fear of being vulnerable kept her from seeking comfort with June. This scene really put all those disparate elements in full relief. If you enjoyed someone's silence, you wouldn't go up to them and say it. This is one of those instances where you want to keep the conversation going, you don't want to let things go, but you're being bullheaded and childish about it. Where it really comes to a head for Serena is at the end of the tete-a-tete when Serena cries... I think it hurt her to hear those things coming from someone she admired and looked up to.

I am really surprised that Serena let Nicole out in the first place, a true believer won't choose a better life over the after life. I live in Egypt, and most mothers here don't have any problem with their daughters growing up in a misogynistic society. Many even refuse the chance to migrate to Europe just so their daughters remain under control. Religion and cultural concepts like honor will make parents deny their children the opportunity to have a happy life. The fact that Serena wanted Nicole out of Gilead for her owns goodness proves that she doesn't really believe in the cause. She just wanted a baby.

What disturbs me so much about this scene is that Serena reminds me a lot of my own mother. When June says to her “You built this whole world, just so you could have SOMEONE!” it hit me like a ton of bricks. My mom has abused, controlled, and manipulated me to extreme degrees for exactly the same reason Serena did what she did. Just in the hopes of having her own person that would make her feel whole. But that’s the thing about parents and kids. You don’t own them and you never will! They don’t belong to you. And if you try to force them in that box, they will always rebel and reject you. Gilead and Fred had silenced and brainwashed Serena. I think June is wrong when she says that she can’t love. She can and she wanted to, but couldn’t ever since she got shot. Serena and Fred had always been religious in their past, but not to this extreme. As we saw in the flashbacks, Fred did give Serena a voice and supported her giving her speeches. I even think, in a way, Fred too was saddened when he found out that her wound meant she couldn’t bare their children. The power he had given himself in Gilead, along with the other husbands, had blinded him and made him forget what he and Serena wanted and had been working towards. We also see in past seasons that Serena was the last one among her friends to become mothers. She was very nurturing and maternal towards their own children. Once Serena had the idea that Fred was infertile, she was desperate and went to Nick to impregnate June. She does truly love Nichole. I can personally see it. All she ever wanted was to be a mom.

Now i think, did Serena returned the favor? I don't remember, was it Nicole to be taken to Canada? Is that how Serena returned the favor? The next shot (after this scene) of June walking out to address the crowd is one of the best visuals that i will never forget from the show ✌️

The more June tells Serena that she's irredeemable, the more power Serena seeks..... Everyone can learn to love. June's a counter-culture snob.

I don't fully blame June for cuddling up to Serena... she's highly desperate in finding allies. I just hope that this confrontation would teach June a lesson.

AJ Chiong What lesson...(?) Maybe it's that Serena can't be trusted right now...

Counter-culture? Serena is an absolute monster, along with the society she has helped create. You really think that baby would be safe if the waterfords still had her?

@@patriciaoffer9585 that Serena will never be good. Even when it seems like Serena will finally make the right call, she will do another awful thing, showing she never changed, her needs just changed.

Every line from june just doesnt sink in when shes guilty of adultery. She shouldn't have been tortured or gone through what she did. That was just inhumane. But a lecture from her.....like really.....
